Dave Wannstedt says he has heard ISU and Kansas to Big Ten

Bowlsby can still put together a pretty decent 14 team conference....

Get to work on the salesmanship and pull in Memphis, Houston, Cincinnati, UCF, BYU and Boise St.

That'll be one big map and cause travel nightmares but that's a lot of TV sets for a Big14 network.

Sure, It doesn't have any blue blood appeal but those are some pretty good football programs right now and that's really the best outcome they can hope for at this point as I see it.

That's best case scenario, but I see other teams leaving the Big XII, starting with West Virginia.

Why didn't the Pac-12 want to add any Big 12 teams?

Bruce Feldman, national college football insider: Assessing the value of any possible additions, particularly as it relates to Big 12 leftovers, Pac-12 ADs were skeptical at even the prospect of bringing in anyone from that league. All it would do is split their pie further while drawing few more eyeballs.
The feeling from power brokers connected to the Pac-12 is that any of the remaining Big 12 schools just do nothing from a ratings benefit to move the needle. The leftovers are seen primarily as meriting cable TV coverage, not network, which is a sizable financial distinction. They wouldn’t add any significant value but rather would only further water down the league while also being potentially different fits from the makeup of the Pac-12.

Gee, I wonder where we've heard this said before? Can't believe the Pac 12 ADs didn't look at the 2020 COVID data that Psyclone laid out.
Well, he obviously didn’t consult with cyclone fans……

Yep. This is why it’s so pointless to argue back and forth over skewed data sets, attendance numbers, etc.

Literally none of it matters if it isn’t what these conferences are using to assess value.

Agree. They won’t be Power 5 anymore, and they won’t be pulling in as much revenue, but it will be better than the remaining schools scattering to the AAC, Mountain West, etc.

It's a small thing and it isn't important, but you truly don't understand Psyclone's posts, do you?

Not to get involved in this particular pissing match, but he said Iowa has won a major bowl once since 1958. What was the win in addition to the Orange Bowl?
Think he was counting that year. New Year’s Day bowls though, they’ve won the cap

troll fodder

The 2022 budget for Iowa shows $55 million as conference distributions.

The Big Ten is in the midst of a six-year, $2.64 billion media deal with CBS, FOX and ESPN that expires in 2023. That figures out to an average of $31.4 million per school per year.

You are mixing up the media deal with the total conference distributions.
Sorry, can only look at the current year. 55 million is the answer. Maybe you could create a pivot table that projects into the future. It certainly doesn’t go into the past.

If there’s absolutely nothing else on tv sports wise or other, I would consider tuning into a game from that league.

It would have to be terrible weather outside as well. I’d have to have zero other options.

You missed more than an asterisk. You misstated the numbers.

And yes I have access to that website, but you can't do any analysis on it other than eyeball it. Putting in a database with pivot tables gives you all sorts of views into the data and can be very enlightening.

The biggest shocker to me was how dominant Ohio State is. In fact, everybody is talking about Oklahoma and Texas as being these major players. Turns out that Ohio State, Michigan and Northwestern all had higher average viewers in 2020 than Oklahoma. Those three and Wisconsin out drew Texas.

One caveat is that Ohio State played two games in the CFP which pulls down huge numbers and distorts the average. But even without those games their worst draw was 4.1 million against Michigan State. Throw out the two CFP games and they still top both leagues.
You may have missed this. Didn’t even need a pivot table to do the comparisons. Are we at the
‘Must ignore’ stage?
Seems to be the case.

2020 Fiesta Bowl
3.8 rating 6.68 million viewers

2018 Fiesta Bowl
4.7 rating 8.47 million viewers

So which one of these is better?

2020 Big12 Championship Game
1.8 rating 2.99 million viewers

2019 Big12 Championship Game
5.5 rating 8.7 million viewers

to help you out 8.7m>>>>>2.99m

just for comparison sake

2015B1G Championship Game*
5.7 rating 9.818 million viewers
* up over the previous year which was 3.5 rating with Ohio State/Wisconsin.

2016 Rose Bowl
7.4 rating 13.552 million viewers

The ACC has been rejecting West Virginia's overtures for years. But I guess anything can change. Frankly, that wouldn't bother me a bit. The sister-kissers never belonged in the Big XII in the first place. If they leave, the rest of the league still gets their media money through 2025. And ISU will have no competition when it comes to campus rioting.

What other major conferences would you be thinking of? The Pac and BiG are off the table, the SEC is unlikely. Everything else is a step down, even from a depleted Big XII. And it forfeits the payout from the deserters.

This question has been asked several times, no response. Iowa State is valuable. It is in my 2020 spreadsheet

My final take for a while, as I'm going to take a break:

The hatred on this board toward Iowa State is beyond my comprehension. I heard someone today say "they'd never wish cancer on their worst enemy".

It's obvious this board is wishing cancer on Iowa State. The intense desire to kill off what is a joy for thousands and thousands of fellow Iowans is sad...in my opinion.

Personally I would not want Iowa to fall into a lower tier. I embrace competition, I enjoy watching Iowa play (admittedly, rooting for their opponent), and I enjoy college football as it's been. I love Saturday's where there's a multitude of games.

Even if you're rooting against ISU, it's still football to watch.

To see the downright hatred...

And, with that, I'm out...for now.

The bolded line made me lol.

As I said. He isn't a troll. He's an engineer.
So, just socially inept? There’s no way ISU brings enough value to justify adding to the big ten

we want to watch them battle in the MAC, losing to the redhawks and Chippewas. This happening helps Iowa recruit in state.

I don’t get this high-horse argument. Do you sincerely think that ISU fans wouldn’t be doing the *exact* same thing if the situation was reversed? I remember what a bunch of them were saying last summer with the racial disparity situation. Pot meet kettle.

Also, I’m not happy that this is happening because it hurts ISU. I’m happy that this is happening because it helps Iowa.

Huge step down from a B12 that had national powerhouses like UT and OU, and 30 years ago, when Nebraska was good.

Keep in mind that schools like Cinci or Houston have been able to be good in the current environment, but now that consolidation has erected two clear tiers in CFB, none of those schools will be able to recruit like they did. HS FB players will treat all those schools as second class at best. Yes, once in a while lightning in a bottle happens - like Miami University during the Big Ben era when they finished top 10 - but none of these Leftover 8 or Second 14 will consistently be able to compete against the big boys.

Just no way to spin this positively for ISU. They got kneecapped, along with the rest of their conference.

I don't see hatred for ISU here. I do see hatred for ISU trolls, for ISU propaganda and downright BS, and for ISU fans who disrespect and disparage Iowa. Huge difference.

The state of Iowa benefits from a preeminent national university, rather than two or three universities who fight for table scraps. Iowa is too small a state for two premier universities or sports programs. That's what the fans say, what the business models reflect, and what reality is. Ohio or Texas or Pennsylvania can support more, but not this state.

This is The Hawkeye State.

ISU has a nice university in a nice enough town, but it's very much in a different league, and in every respect I can think of. The last two months have proven it irrefutably.

To put is simply. It’s not Iowa State that I dislike. It’s the Cyclones.

This! The University of Iowa was established before ISU. Iowa football was established before ISU football. This is OUR state. And now the folks in Ames are forced to concede that.
