Defending the 3 point goal ????

We usually play man for the first couple minutes.

The reason we don't play man is to protect Luka from being put in ball screens.

He really struggles to help on screens and he picks up fouls. So its a two fold problem.

I don't understand why Fran doesn't switch to man with the second unit with Luka on the bench.

I've been saying the same thing (mostly to myself or my wife if she'll listen to me). The first unit needs to start in zone and the second unit should play man. It doesn't make any sense personnel-wise to do it the way Fran has been.

Poor rotations and recognition/reaction.

And yet and yet we made the same number of 3s that OSU made in fewer attempts. OSU must be unathletic and slow too. We missed some bunnies and JWs steal and KM missed some easy put backs and FTs again hurt...
The box score I saw had both teams 14/32 from 3 I believe.

Iowa gets open looks from 3 as well, just not as open as their opposition on a regular basis.

Iowa has some great shooters, some of the best in the Conference IMO, and other teams have great shooters too, but they are more likely to play a semblance of Defense along with it.

Luka Garza can cover up a lot of warts and get shots for guys more often than they normally would see.

When we play teams that can come anywhere close to us Offensively, we're in deep doo-doo. Period. Granted we make some teams better Offensively than they actually are, but bottom line we are athletically overmatched. You can overcome some of that, but night after night it will eventually catch up to you.

So you are suggesting Fran design a Zone that puts emphasis on one guy, follows him everywhere, maybe putting the best defender on him and and never helps off him? That would be man-to-man.
Or a match-up zone.

Nobody in our starting lineup has the foot speed to stay in front of their man. Nobody. So our wings sag off shooters and guys just step in to open threes time and time and time again. It’s so maddening.

Zone, man, doesn’t matter. And in zone it’s laughable how many times we have a guy sprinting (jogging, who am I kidding) from 15 feet away at a shooter.

We have a good defensive lineup that is decent scoring group too. Fran just uses them in a maddening fashion.
