***Definitive Tale of the Tape Thread: FSU vs Iowa***

After successful lobbying for inclusion of a few categories by @noleclone2, the W-L-D record currently stands at 14 Iowa, 8 FSU, 7 Draws.

When we and Stanford fans came up with this list it was a draw. I’m open to entertaining any other categories from either side. They dropped a lot more academic categories than they thought, but won a lot more in athletics than they thought (they crushed us in national titles, for example). They had more trouble conceding academic accomplishments, and less trouble in conceding to sports figures like Gable.

If we give you Gable, can you admit that you are comically biased on some of those ties?

Richard Simmons has to get FSU another point for Misc.

Possibly. Make your case...
Thompson - Brokaw wasn't really one of yours.
Sara Blakely instead of Howard Hughes dad - she's worth more than a billion dollars and all your Iowa women wear her spanx.
Griner over Waitt - does Gateway even still exist? They put together PCs for a few years.
Jim Morrison. Come on.
Oh, and your #1 list - FSU held party school for years. What publication lists Iowa, the Farmers Almanac? And even then they both have 3 on your list and you gave the win to Iowa anyway.

1) As Torbee pointed out Gallup puts it back to a tie.

2) Gateway was massively successful and acquired by Acer (which I own) for much of their technology.

3) Jim Morrison was overrated as a lyricist. There, I said it (and I like The Doors). He was popular because girls liked him. Jarreau created the LA R&B sound, and Estes was America’s top opera tenor.

4) Iowa hit number one in the big one, Princeton Review...

Ha! FSU made the Playboy list for years. Would you rather be listed by Playboy or Princeton? The defense rests.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but this should pretty much settle the debate. Iowa takes time out of each game to wave to critically ill children and their families. Florida State pretends they’re Indians.

Okay, so I did this years back with Stanford alumni, figuring out a list for school bragging rights. We were neck-and-neck when the totals came in. But it’s time for a definitive schlong measuring contest with you Dongers. I think Iowa will have some historical advantages and FSU current day advantages. Here we go, Noleyes...

No wait... yes I do: Bobby Bowden > Iowa ADV: FSU

Yeah, Gable is a layup call over Bowden. Bowden isn’t even the best coach of all time in college football...Gable is the best coach in all of wrestling history.

Real arguments could be made that he is - if you look past the NCAA's vacated wins nonsense he's on the list for winningest coach. The run of consecutive top 4 finishes will probably never be done again.
But we're still comparing football to wrestling. ...

So both the brains of Princeton and the partiers at Playboy both agree that Iowa is above FSU. Maybe you can get the endorsement of MAD magazine or the Onion and we'll have a tie.
If you want to pick individual years you could probably argue that Iowa baseball is better than FSU. It would be insane, but you could do it. It's all about the body of work.

I can't deny that ^^^^

Brokaw should not be in running when your school has George Gallup as a journalism alum. The dude INVENTED modern polling. Also, current Washington Post political reporter Seung Min Kim who has broken some gigantic stories the past two years is a fairly recent Daily Iowan alum.
Well, modern polling is lacking. See most every election the last two cycles.

Thread got too long to read it all, so speaking of getting long, FSU has Mia Khalifa in pron, who is Iowa's most famous pron star?

What’s her connection to FSU? Her Wiki page says she was born in Beirut, went to high school in Maryland, and went to college at UTEP.

Florida is the porn capital of the world. I'm sure it's not related, but it's also has one of the highest rates of human trafficking in the country

Nope. This stupid gator chomp knock off negates all good will generated by the wave. Shameful.

Funny you ask...

Apparently that she wore a t-shirt.

Can we consider the population of Iowa is 3.1 million compared to Florida at 21 million? I would think with 7 times the amount of people you guys would do a little better.

Fact: Iowa was the only school in the entire country to field a wrestling team for 80% of Gable's career, including the entirety of his run of 47 straight National Championships.

Graduates with a degree from Iowa earn enough to not have to do porn. So we’ll have to submit a “did not play” for this category.

Iowa started doing the chomp because of PAC Man. We do it after 3rd down stops because our defense is gobbling up the opposition similar to PAC Man gobbling up the dots on the screen. PAC man came out in 1980. The band also plays “The Imperial March” from Star Wars while the fans do the chomp. That song was first used in The Empire Strikes Back, which also came out in 1980. So I’m guessing we started doing it around then, maybe a season later with our great 1981 Rose Bowl defense.

The Florida gator chomp didn’t start until halfway through the 1981 season according to one article I found.

So, the traditions started at roughly the same time. And Florida wasnt on tv much back then, so I doubt our fan base would have even seen them on tv to try to copy it.

I heard wrestling was actually invented in 1983, and the entire "history" is black-ops by the deep state to instigate a second Civil War, and Gable is in on it.
