DeSantis’s ‘Freedom Summer’ means no rainbow lights for Florida bridges

You know it’s not necessarily a defense of the Governor it’s a presentation of the facts.
He did not mandate this idea and if cities don’t want to take part they don’t have to.

And no one has yet to say definitively that red white and blue excludes ANY American. Or limits anyone’s freedom!
After Labor Day bridges in Florida can revert back to displaying colors their city or county wants to.
The colors are to promote our unity as Americans.
Nuthin' promotes unity like saying "you can display any colors you like, so long as they are red, white, or blue"...

Run for and win Governorship of your state and you can light the bridges whatever color you want

I honestly can't believe we're 3 pages into a thread about bridge lights. I'd understand it if gays weren't allowed to use the bridges or something, but it's lights... we're talking about lights. Nobody's rights or civil liberties have been taken away here, there's just some hurt feelings.

Still PF, but at least PF admits it.
There's nothing to defend here... it's LIGHTS. Last year for Pride month the bridge in Jacksonville was rainbow for a month... no body cried it wasn't red white and blue... Now that it's not gonna be a pride bridge everyone has their manties in a bunch?

Damn I wouldn't survive in a blue state

So if they’re just harmless lights, why create legislation around them?

Seems like the only ones that are “crying” about them is the state legislature and the governor. Ironic, no?

Because he's the Governor, it's what Governors do, they govern. They make decisions and enact policies and legislation.

I repeat myself, but if you want all the bridges in your state to have rainbow lights or something else, run for and win the governorship and you can make it whatever you want. Winners get statues, write the history books, and color the bridges.

It’s a governor’s job to dictate what color lights can be displayed on a bridge? One has to wonder if a state like Florida has more pressing issues for DeSantis to tackle.

One could wonder, or someone could file an injunction with the court if it bothered them THAT much. I doubt it will go very far since you know he's within his authority here and since no one's use of the bridges are restricted, it seems it's everyone else who is crying this time.

But feel free to try in the courts, we can call it "Don't say Bridge" that strategy worked great for Disney.

Dictating light colors is not "governing"
It is grandstanding.

Fixing the state's messed up insurance systems is governing.
Taking a leadership role in climate risks to your state is governing.

Governing is hard. Grandstanding is easy.
You're just pissy because RDS kicked all your covid panic porn to the curb and we're still here, ALIVE AND WELL..

Makes you wonder why a governor makes something so petty the centerpiece of his administration.

I think it's just to bother the people on this board... Nobody at work or in the public settings I've been in are discussing this...HERE IN FLORIDA. RDS is doing the job we hired him to do.

Because he's bad at actual governance and his idiot supporters eat up the culture war bullshit.
People who are bad at their job don't typically get re-hired by overwhelming margins. The fact you and your ilk think he's doing a bad job just means he's over the target.
