DeVries of Drake is the replacement if Fran is done

Theee is always a chance Chris but dammit, West Virginia is a damn good college job! Strong tradition in BB with a gaggle of good players and coaches. You don’t think DeVries isn’t getting paid…and if things keep going, he won’t get a new contract? It’s far from a given DeVries even considers leaving. I have got to think DeVries is fully informed on what is going on in eastern Iowa basketball-wise. You really can’t “tamper” a coach, either.
We shall see.
Iowa is equal to WVU if not better historically PLUS BIG money

From what I read, Devries doesn’t have much of a contract and his buyout is 37.5% of whatever compensation remains.

I think Iowa could afford to get him. I don’t know if he’s the home run hire fans are looking for, but there’s no doubt he would be an improvement from Fran. And, if he were actually to succeed, he’d probably stay at Iowa provided Iowa paid up.

So, I guess what I am saying is it seems like a low risk investment with the potential for a higher reward that could somewhat resemble Dr. Tom’s early years. All I know is whoever is the next coach needs NIL funding and to stop recruiting so many unathletic white guys. I am tired of watching 3A level Midwest white boys be the bulk of the roster makeup.
If we don't make a run at him I'm done with this shit

It’s worth the phone call.

Devries got a five-year contract starting out at $2.8 million. Fran is making $3.3 million and is near the top 30 of coaching salaries for basketball. For 2024, Fran makes more than Chris Collins, TJ Otzelberger, Shaka Smart, Mark Few, Greg McDermott, to name a few.

At this point, there isn’t much risk. Fans are bored with Fran and not showing up. Surely, Iowa could afford to land someone decent for the money they are wasting on Fran.

Something needs to change. As much as we complain about Kirk not evolving enough, the shit with Fran has passed the point of being absurd.

I care about Iowa basketball but I can’t stand watching Fran ball. Defense and toughness should be an Iowa trademark. Fran ball is Charmin soft and I have been sick of it for a while now. I’m checked out until changes are made at the top.

I respect and am thankful for Fran but he's given up as has the team. Finish this shit up and get DeVries for the love of God!!

I’d say Devries would be a home run. I’m guessing his buy out is a few million? That’s not unworkable.

The only UI mens BB coach I can think of who left on his own accord was Ralph Miller. Every other coach that left, left with many fans cheering his departure. That would certainly include Lute. Many fans were Sooo pissed after he lost that NCAA game at Wichita on national TV (the “time out” game). Every other coach (and most were good ones, too) left to the relief of the fan base.
