Did I miss the JBo KO thread?

If you are eye to eye with someone it's not a sucker punch. I don't think the video clearly shows how the punch went down. No punch happens with a disclaimer warning, so really for all you sucker punch guys on here, every first punch ever thrown is a sucker punch. I'm sure in today's society JBo believes he should be safe. He should know that because of his "celebrity" on the Iowa team and especially because he has decided to run his mouth and his fingers on social media, there maybe 1 or 2 people who would like to take a poke at him. No one is above a butt whipping, no matter how special he thinks he is. Those of us who have been in fights understand that you learn valuable lessons when you get beat. I hope he learns something from this, at the very least, don't stick around when surrounded, get out of the situation.

The video only shows a little bit of what happened and it's narrated by someone who obviously wanted to see JoBo get punched. That person is an ass, obviously, and it also shows JoBo got assaulted for, at worst, taking a picture of someone. The guy who punched and kneed JoBo has no defense based on the video. And if JoBo did throw ice at him? That doesn't justify assault.

No sh!t. Not the point.

Do you really want your sixth-year point guard acting like he's in middle school throwing ice at people? The fact some Joe-Blow assaulted him is beside the point. That's the type of veteran leadership you want on the team? No thanks. And it's not like JBo doesn't have a well documented history of childish antics.

And let's be real: What if this had happened to an Illinois or Iowa State player? The same "let's reserve judgment crowd" would be reverting to all kinds of epithets related to that player being a "thug" and "getting what he deserved."

What? The guy who hit him wasn’t the guy he was even talking to / recording. The guy who hit him came around the back of him and got him from the side. If that’s not a sucker punch, then what is?
That is assault and I would bet he will be charged. Alcohol always complicates things but someone can get hurt. The Bohanen kid could be concussed.

I just talked to someone who knows someone who knows someone who was at the scene …. Not sure how reliable the story so take it FWIW …. apparently the guy who punched him took off his shoes, signed them “Thanks 4 The Memories” and left them by Bohannon as he lay on the ground.

In all seriousness, I’ll be shocked if t-shirts with that caption imposed over the JBo on the ground photo don’t show up for sale in Ames.

There was a thread on paid board, don't have time to sift through all of the poor's in this post.

Momma said knock you out! That is my guess!

I find it just a bit ironic how many grown men (assumption I know) who post their thoughts on a message board, who regularly lose their shit when Iowa loses a game, are calling for JBo to "grow up". And while at some point having a little too much to drink coupled with the likelihood of being just a bit of a smart ass can make it harmful to your health, all you need to do is go to any Iowa sporting event to see people of all ages act like fools. Pretty sure some of those are even regulars here?

I do not want a sixth year player who should be the leader of the team acting in this manner. That being said, I know that I have done my share of stupid things in my lifetime.

I also agree that there would be many on here condemning the player if that player was from Iowa State, Illinois or Nebraska. That does not make it right though and I would hope that many of us on this board would not be that hypocritical, but who am I kidding!

They should both be arrested and charged with assault. Don’t think Fran would suspend him more than a game or 2, so no huge issue there.

It is what it is. I wasn't the most mature when I was JBo's age, but I don't ever remember throwing ice at people or purposely stirring shit up. Maybe it's the wake-up call Bohannon needs. At the very least, it wasn't close to being as bad as what happened to Spencer Jones when he decided to bully Frodo Baggins. Lol.

just seems like a lot of dumb decisions being made by many people under the influence of alcohol

looks like the one guy will get charged w/ assault; he's lucky that's all it will be. I have seen cases where guys get into fights, 1 guy gets knocked out, hits his head, and has huge, long term medical issues; and the guy that hit him? he suddenly is facing charges and has to hire a a lawyer to get himself out of the mess he got himself into
This happened to my friend who was a bouncer at Fieldhouse a few years back.

Also happened to an Iowa football player in the mid 1990's. Knocked a kid out in the Ped Mall, kid hit his head, ended up in a coma for two days. Football player's parents did OK financially, paid some cash to the family of the kid knocked out. Coach Fry had control of the police in those days, they came to him Sunday afternoon, the story never made it to the press. Player was suspended for three games, Coach Fry's story was he pulled a hamstring in practice, would be out roughly three games. Even made him go around campus with some crutches despite no real injury.

What I think is L oh L is how many Iowa "fans", who have no idea what happened and couldn't, even after watching the video, hate JBo so much that they'll jump all over him at every opportunity, real or imagined. Great "fans" like you, Whiskey. Bravo.

JC, no wonder players don't want to come here.
Players dont want to come here because we are a mediocre program laced with nepotism. Me being ok with a douche taking one on the chin instead of everyone needing a lawyer to talk things out has nothing to do with it.

Fights and ice throwing in bars is nothing new in Iowa City. There used to be full fledged brawls at the Old Fieldhouse Bar and College Street Club. However, athletes, back then, could get away with it since nobody had a cell phone pointed at your face and there was no social media. Basically things were hearsay and hushed up. These days, it's instant news. You'd think Mr. 6th year Senior would know better but apparently not. I'm not condoning either idiot's behavior.

So true. And if you dont have definite support near you, you never really know what you are up against. I had that happen to me one time when I quickly transitioned from fighting one guy to being overwhelmed by 4 guys.

I'd be surprised if charges are pressed. I imagine JBo wants this to go away asap and charges plus all the facts/testimony coming out wouldn't help that.

the problem? as much sheet as he dishes out on Twitter this incident is going to come back at him 5 fold.

this is why Twitter is the worst & JBo on Twitter, CAUSING DRAMA, is a huge distraction for the team.

Sure, JBo probably wants this to go away. But it's not going to. He's going to be reminded about it for a very long time.

You realize in order to press charges and have criminal proceedings the cops and defense attorneys are going to have to gather as many facts and testimony from witnesses as possible right? Anything and everything Jordan said and did that night would become a matter of public record and reported on by media.
Your argument frankly is idiotic. Do you think the person he threw ice at is the one who sucker punched him? Fairly doubtful. So what's the actual argument of Jordan presses charges? "Gee golly he threw ice at another person and when they were arguing I sucker punched him".

DC's: Where things come to a head with Hawkeye athletes and their internet trolls. The fact there are people applauding a Hawkeye player getting popped is ridiculous. You don't like him, his defense or his cockiness? Great. That's the nature of being a fan. But maybe keep your comments toned down or to yourself. There are a few Hawkeye fans that are a complete embarrassment. I don't know if anything has changed but former Hawkeye Z Mccabe despises most Hawkeye fans.

Here is the worlds smallest violin playing just for McCabe.

We are not applauding a Hawkeye player getting popped.
Take one guess why we may be applauding this one, and why we wouldn't be applauding it if it happened to Keegan or someone.

My argument has literally nothing to do with who was right/wrong or who exactly did what. My argument is that if Jbo wants this to go away as quickly as possible then he won't press charges period. If he presses charges there's going to be more media attention and coverage and he's gonna have to relive an embarrassing moment over and over again for the next year.

Totally agree, but court proceedings and testimony covered in the news for the next year certainly won't help matters.

I vaguely remember this now. I'd have a few guesses to the players name.
Anyway, how ****ing shitty is this?
NO coach, no matter how sterling their ****ing reputation may be, is above cold tactics such as this.

No coach.

The suckered puncher in gray is probably going to learn about jail time. Is Bohannon a douch? Probably, but you can't run around assaulting people without ending up in jail. A long time ago I saw someone die from a punch in a bar. No matter how tough that turd thinks he is he will cry like a little bitch when that cell door closes.
Yep, because everyone that thinks their tuff cries if they have to spend a few nights in jail.

From what I saw, JBo was looking into his phone, recording the guy in front of him

I don't see how he could have seen the punch FROM THE SIDE coming because he was LOOKING STRAIGHT AHEAD, INTO HIS PHONE.

So, that's a sucker punch if there ever was one.

I'm really not sure why this is so hard for people.

Yes, I think everyone is in agreement that JBo shouldn't have been assaulted. Even worse if its a sucker punch.

It's also not outrageous to acknowledge he likely put himself in a position to get punched through stupid actions and behavior which historically, hasn't been some secret around Iowa City.

Did he deserve to get sucker punched? No.

Did he deserve to get punched in a squared up fight? Who knows.

Was he being a douche which likely contributed greatly to this outcome? I'd put money on it.

Do I hope he's OK? Of course.

Do I hope he's on the team next season? No.
