ESPN podcast with Fran

If you want some great insight into coach Fran's head this is a must listen. He discusses how good he thinks the team is and how he manages his players and rotations. Really heady stuff. Fran is normally quite candid but he is even more so in this Podcast.

Really interesting how he had to work really hard to make sure we had a solid bench to go along with the vets on this team. Folks, we have a really great coach.

A great listen.

Interesting that Fran was not happy with the seniors not mentoring the newcomers this summer/the beginning of the season. Great to hear how that has changed.

What game was it AND what did Jok do where Fran lit into Jok and told him to get out of the huddle?

pretty sure one was at home MichSt...when we are in a timeout I like watching the huddle...player reactions..in this case I believe PJ had decided to penetrate at a time it was not the best decision...PJ moved from the huddle (I assume that was when Fran suggested he do so)...he sat a little ways down from the bench...while everyone else was in huddle...Fleming went over to him..said something & PJ motioned to him.. go away...PJ was not in the mood to talk.

McCaffery does challenge his guys...not everyone the same...I still think Uhl is one of the very best we have had under Fran who knows when to run the other way .. or the other direction......of course he hasn't had to do that recently.

thanks. very interesting. in the podcast, Fran said he can't yell at Uthoff because Jarrod does not like it at all. "Just tell me what you want, coach."

Maybe this was one of the reasons Jarrod left Wisconsin. He didn't want to play for Bo Ryan for the aforementioned reason.

Fran doesnt back away from national championship potential talk. I like it

yeah, loved that comment in particular. I find it similar to what KF allowed the football team to do during their bye week...take a little time to dream and visualize what is possible, then get back to work. Honestly, any team that finds themselves in the top 10 should feel like they can beat anyone on a neutral court on any given day. Its incredibly difficult to work into the top 10...even more difficult to stay there, but I would hope the team is confident enough in themselves to not shy away from such aspirations while knowing full well it will take a total team commitment.

Time and time again, I am reminded of how lucky we are to have Fran. He is so passionate, intelligent and caring for the game and his players and program.

Some players respond well to yelling, other completely shutdown and tune the coach out. It's a must to learn how your players react quickly or you can lose them.
