Heard some bumbling. Kind of sounded like someone threw a shoe at the side of my house.

Went out wit a flashlight and saw some shingle sliding down. Got a good look this morning and a bit ripped up chunk on the peak of the roof, right on the edge.

Guy quoted $175 to put a trap down, and 75 per animal. So if it's a momma and 5 babies that is gonna be damn near $700.

I recommend getting a 2nd opinion or calling a redneck friend to do it for you.

Yea. Don't block momma from entering to get to her babies or she'll destroy shit to get back to them. Need to trap her and then the kits are easy. Or get a valve installed that lets them leave but takes a little more effort to get in. You can put noise makers up there or some pheromones from male racoons or from coyotes to try and scare them out.

I have a guy coming to look at it, he has some pretty good reviews. He basically said the same thing. We'll trap the mom, and then go back in and get the babies.

I'm not sure what's funnier to me. The fact that I had this happen 2x when I lived out in the country or the fact that I honestly can't remember how I resolved it either time. Repressed violent memories perhaps . . .

I had a opossum in the attic last year. Buy a $60 havaheart cage and trap them yourself.

Put a dish out with some golden marlin mixed with coke a cola, that will kill it, allegedly that is.

Cat food, especially wet tuna, is top notch for getting momma. They do learn to avoid traps. Mine tried to reach in thru the trap on all sides before going in. It shit itself all over after so put plywood down or something below the trap. If you have a ring camera, place it nearby so you can watch.

Also when they are trapped they will dig hard to get out. They'll rip thru any drywall they can reach. Hence the plywood below the trap. Or have the camera so you can get them out asap.

I've seen a 105lb angry German Shepherd fail to kill one many times. He was very proficient at possum, muskrat, rats, skunk, and deer. Coons could twist and use their paws during his grab and shake to break vertebrae instinct. Don't corner it yourself. Not difficult to dispatch when treed if you have a loaded tool on you.

I don't recommend using his tool here. Momma may not be receptive.

Oh, and I should add if you do it yourself, look for where it's climbing up and down. Pay close attention to downspouts where they like to climb and will likely show footprints. That's where you place the trap. Either at the bottom or the top.

Yeah, a coon can/will kill dogs.

That is just the cost for removal. If they have been in there for more than a day or two, there’s a good chance you will have to essentially replace everything in that attic and the ceiling to your top level.

Their poop is toxic and their pee does a lot of damage. I remember a story on this site years ago, where the guy had something similar happen and they got between the floor of his main level and the ceiling of his basement. It cost him tens of thousands of dollars to essentially redo his entire basement. Somebody should try and find and bump that thread.

Hopefully they've just been in the attic. I also don't think they've been there all that long.

Neighbor had this happen. The mama raccoon left with her babies on their own, then he fixed the entrance. Raccoon got really tame because she got used to human voices.

Mama raccoon brought the babies over to show us. My cats weren’t intimidated at all by said raccoons.

They returned to the woods, but they didn’t last long. One day there were 4 babies and it went downhill from there.

And shoot through the walls and roof of the ceiling and house?
If you don't miss there wont be any extra holes. He already said the critter tore through the roof. Cheaper to patch a small hole then spend $700 plus to have it removed.

Had one tear thru my roof during a major storm looking for a place to make her nest. Didn't like it and moved on, but left me with a basketball sized hole in my roof during an atmospheric river even. Tried to tarp it during the night but it did little good. Ceiling in my bedroom collapsed, had to have all the drywall in that room replaced and the roof patched.
Not a fan.

So you're saying the bullet will not pass through the body and into the ceiling or wall?
Ha Ha Ha.

Ha Ha Ha.... it's a .22, not a .308. For starters, you shoot them in the head, not the body. So no, a .22 will not pass through the skull twice and then a wall.
