Heard schools not workn out so well at Ohio state. Wonder if we could help him shore that up.
Wrestling board used to be the one place on this site where info was provided largely immune from the insanity. Im 18 pages into this one, not knowing Ferrari lore, and havent a real clue what is/isnt happening.
Anthony - middle brother of the Ferrari clan (and likely the most troublesome one) "commited" to Iowa. Hawk Insiders Gobblin and bnicolls have confirmed that Tom is going after older brother and former natty champ AJ and the younger brother.
AJ has felony charges pending, but it's possible that they get dropped. Anthony has pled guilty to misdemeanor assault charges, with sentencing likely on April 11.
Nic Bouzakis, assumed to be Ohio State's 133 pounder next year, is very likely going to leave tOSU and transfer to Iowa. Considering the likely $$$ it is taking to secure these 4 transfers - they will all be in the lineup with the exception of Angelo (who will be a high school senior). So our lineup next year could be:
125 - Ayala
133 - Bouzakis
141 - Woods
149 - Chittum
157 - Ferrari
165 - PK
174 - Brands
184 - Assad (please god no)
197 - AJ
285 - Cass

Pozanski 184 from Rutgers was mentioned. Although I don’t think he is much of an upgrade from Assad. Believe Assad has beat him.
And can someone provide more information on Bouzakis? I looked him up...top recruit a couple of years ago out of Florida who moved to PA his senior year. But from some information, it looks like he got to Ohio State two years ago and other information just this past year...
He redshirted this past year and wrestled unattached, defeating UNI's 133. Is he just behind Mendez? Could he not beat out Mendez?
It seems like some people are really hyping this guy up and thinking we're getting a big-time acquisition at 133. I'm trying to put 2 and 2 together here....I'm just not seeing it yet. Any help would be appreciated.

that is 146. You could sub a little here and add a little there but I believe these numbers are pretty solid in a round about way. Some could certainly score more such as Ayala winning or making finals with a few bonus wins, Bouzakis ,Chittum doing similar, Assad making a run etc...

If this Bouzakls thing came to fruition, won’t that hurt us in getting Davino or Lilledahl or are they more planned as 125 options and not 133?

Bouzakis and Mendez were both elite level recruits. MatScouts had them #5 and #4 in final rankings of the Class of 2022. I’d take either one.
he was in redshirt this year at Ohio State, first year there. Per WrestleStat
went 11-1 with a 14-6 loss to Tom Crook of VT. Beat UNI Biscoglia 10-6. that was it for quality wins/losses.
Was Bouzakis hurt or something this year? or is it that next year we project Mendez will be like a finals guy and Bouzakis is an all AA type guy that would be sitting on OSU' bench? I get that he was a great recruit and I would like to have him in black and gold.
Imo, the fact that bouzakis is able to hop into the lineup immediately makes him more valuable then the other two. Not to mention, I think he’s a best of the three anyways. If the Ferraris do indeed join the team, the timeline to win starts now and having Nic would definitely help our chances.

Possible? Yes. Likely? Definitely not close enough to be able to say. I would guess most on here, if not all, are not either.
Personally, it’s not that I don’t think there’s a chance at redemption. I think it’s too big of a risk. And a bad look for the school with the first major D1 womens wrestling program.
As for John Smith, his seat HAS to be pretty hot right now, right? He has had quite a year, and not in a good way.
Bouzakis/Mendez were both true freshmen this year. Bouzakis redshirted because Mendez was probably more ready to go right away. I believe tOSU’s plan is for next year, Bouzakis go 133 and Mendez redshirt. He would then use that redshirt to bulk up to go 141 the year following since D’Emilio is likely gone.
I think the issue they’re running into is Mendez got horsed at times at 133 and doesn’t seem like either one could ever be as effective at 141. So they’re in a pickle having both.
Plus, Bouzakis’s sister will wrestle, and Iowa has a women’s program.
Bouzakis was redshirting this year as a freshman behind Mendez. As stated, he does have a win over Biscoglia and was a huge recruit. Him and Mendez look to be at 133 for the foreseeable future so a bit of a logjam there at tOSU.
Can we all agree at least that the Brands need to rethink some of their philosophies and coaching strategies though? I don’t want them gone, and I think they can get us where we need to go. But the feeling has been for awhile that Iowa guys are just gassed towards the end of the season more than others. I’m not sure why that is because I’m not inside the room but it seems like a consistent issue that needs addressed. What is PSU doing different? Because it sure feels like they’re guys are always fresh and showing up on the big stage and scoring points. What that change would look like I have no idea, but it does feel like they need to reevaluate some things.

When young men mess up and get into the kind of trouble the Ferrari boys have been in, I always wonder if this was just a case of too much alcohol at a party one night and did a stupid thing this one time or are there deep rooted behavioral or psychological issues that could lead to a repeat? I actually have no problem with giving young men a second chance depending on what the offense was. I am sure Tom Brands will have a plan in place with tight conditions and protocols that will need to be followed carefully. I know Tom and Terry are Christian men and will give them every chance to redeem themselves. I also know Tom will be prompt in showing them the door if they mess up again.... I also believe in innocence until proven guilty. Right now nothing has been proven so everyone should refrain from tearing the Ferraris down until it all plays out in the legal system... The folks behind the scenes know more than we do.... Something positive must have occurred to lead Tom towards recruiting them..
Agree. It doesn't seem like that many years ago when I remember watching Iowa matches going into the 3rd and thinking this was the X factor that would set our guys apart, their conditioning and ability to win close matches late while the other guys gassed. Doesn't seem like that's been the case recently.
I'm familiar with the S&C crowd and these days there is a lot of controlling training volume and recovering done that wasn't back in the day.
I agree with most of this but the issue is our guys aren't improving. It seems like going back ten years, there are very few who improved while in the program. Some actually got worse... you could argue that they became less offensive and very injury prone. That could have something to do with coaching style, mentality and training regime. It could have nothing to do it with it. But we aren't seeing our guys perform the best at NCAA's or making big improvements (for the most part).
Training is extremely tough on a body, so maybe there needs to be a focus on controlling the volume and intensity to maximize gains and recovery. Yeah, that's stating the obvious. I knew i made better gains with a powerlifting coach. He put me through hell for 3 weeks, then the 4th was ridiculously light but it seemed to still give me a great training effect. after a few 4 week blocks the training seemed to be easier but still difficult.
wrestling is different but I'm sure the same kind of thinking applies.
How offensive is “guido” to Italian/Sicilian people? Honest question. It doesn’t seem like it’s meant to denigrate the entirety of the the culture. Only a specific part of it. The same thing can be said about a number of ethnic/racial slurs though.

Pat Lugo, Real Woods, JE, Ads, Nelson, and Cobe have all improved during their time at Iowa. In their placements and their wrestling ability. Nelson was finally healthy this past week and he looked great.
I’m not saying the program is perfect, far from it, but i think we’re going in the right direction.
Just so no one thinks I’m a complete Tom and Terry apologist (though I think you’ll be hard pressed to find better) I’ll add that I’m not a big fan of our peaking is a mindset idea. It’s not, it’s just not. Also, I do wish I would hear at least one wrestler say I saw that move on tape and me and my coaches came up with a way to block him off. Instead of that they always say they need to force their positions they are best in. Well, IMO, scouting and wrestling in your best position can be done simultaneously. The level of scouting seems to differ from wrestler to wrestler and coach to coach. I’m of the opinion that increased scouting should take place.
The state of Iowa wrestling is better now than it was pre Spencer, but there’s still a ways to go. Top tier transfers, high end recruits, a bright new facility, and an endowed HWCare all steps in the right direction. Im not happy with second and as far as I can tell the coaches and wrestlers aren’t either. They’re doing something about it.

Regardless of the legal outcome, i have seen enough on instagram and twitter that I don’t want anything to do with AJ. I don’t know that any of it has made it in this thread, but believe it was in the Ferrari thread from the summer?
