Fight at end of Kansas / Kansas State game

Thugs are what thugs do. There are several players who should have legal charges filed against them. Perhaps, there are felonies that could be filed. They should not be exempt just because they are basketball players. There was definitely battery to various degrees going on. There should, also, be some players not just suspended, they need to be thrown off the team. Was it smart to steal the ball with just a couple of seconds left in a blow out game and the opposition was just running out the clock? No, it wasn't smart. It was stupid. It is what stupid people do. But it was far worse that the Kansas player went into such an immediate rage that resulted in a hard foul while swatting the ball and then standing over the player and taunting him. That is what thugs do. Picking up a chair to use as a weapon is what criminals do and I don't think those kind of people have a place on any campus even if they play basketball.

The kid who made the block and then stood over the K State player is the one who is playing because Kansas went to bat for him after the FBI investigation indicated he may be involved I believe.

Because they are Kansas there will be a wrist slap for all but the shot blocker. A couple of others might get two games. If the NCAA had any nerve they would ban the kid for life, reduce scholarships, and put a tournament ban on the team. Take some decisive action.

The IL kid who stomped on chest of a player tonight should be individually severely punished as well.

If Iowa never gets a five star, but recruits kids with character I’m okay with that.

You bring up an interesting point. I suppose the Big 12 (and Kansas to some extent) will decide the punishment here. There is no central body other than the leagues deciding punishment in these situations. The reason fighting has basically ended in the NBA is the league made the penalties so harsh that no one will come off the bench or fight. But my guess is the Big 12 is not interested in Kansas losing key players for the rest of the season. K-State is terrible, but some of their guys should also face suspensions. De Sousa was threatening a guy with a chair and only saved by his assistant coach taking it away from him, and then 2-3 KU guys stomping on a K-State player while he's on the ground. How any of them play again this year is beyond me. If the suspensions are only 1-2 games, there's zero deterrent for fighting.

Not condoning his actions, but he did just have the ball stolen from him as he was trying to dribble out the clock. Clearly he crossed the line standing over the KSU player, who was not completely innocent. Plenty of ‘what not to do’s’ in this one. I would be disgusted to be a fan of either one of these programs.
Lots of bad people... on both sides, on both sides. Good people too on both sides

Agree, 22 for sure, and the stompers should get at least 5 to 6 games minimum. You can't allow that type of behavior to go on, but I'll still be surprised if they get more then a slap on the wrist.

I've met the guy, on multiple (double-digit) occasions (and, yes, never while wearing KU gear). Off the court, absolutely one of the nicest, classiest people you could ever meet. On the court, I can see how his intensity could be viewed otherwise.
Its pretty easy for people to put on an act off the court for fund raisers etc. Self's hands are all over the crap thats gone on at KU, although I highly doubt he'll ever be held accountable for any of the illegal recruiting or dirty money thats changed hands. I'm sure he'll use the Rick Pitino, "I had no knowledge"defense.

This, in spades!! And clubs, hearts, and diamonds! Moronic move to steal the ball, without question. But IMO EVERYTHING that happened after that is on KU.
I would like to think a coach and a program that had less slime involved would boot at least one kid off the team, but this is KU.

Surprised Bill Self didn't get a stomach bug and missed the whole brawl.

I'm sure the NCAA won't need to step in. Self will police this himself.

I really don't think it's that big of deal. I hate when Fraschallia & announcers say "this is terrible. There's no point to this. It's sad." So much for play-by-play, now we have to hear your lame opinions on the ugly ending.

Guy steals the ball so the other guys retaliate. Things get heated & a fight happens. Then everybody goes home.

I would have preferred a WWE-style play-by-play, too. "Oh, he jumped out of the ring, grabbed a chair, and is now pounding the ball boy with it! It's absolute mayhem, folks! This is what we came for!"

Do enlighten us on the conversations. I am sure they were in depth enough to dispel any of the stories out there about the guy.... now back to the fight. Were their fans involved? The guy in the black shirt looked like a fan. That elevates the issue.

The guy in the black shirt was a player from Kansas State.

Fighting in an NCAA basketball game, or any sanctioned game, is just dumb. You can't "win" the fight - so only bad things can happen to you once you start fighting. Complete lack of intelligence and personal control. Completely innocent bystanders can get hurt. Suspensions, possible removal from the team and loss of scholly. Actions like this should be left to animals.

Yeah, I hate the taunting crap that happens today ... We see it at the professional level and it has cascaded down to the college and high school level (sadly). It's a bad reflection on the players involved. When the mob mentality kicks in ... this is what happens.

Who would have thunk it that two male cheerleaders helped save the day ...:D

He shouldn't have been trying steal the ball and score in a blowout with under 5 seconds left. I'd have felt some kind of way about that too.

He got it thrown back in his face (nearly literally) with the nasty block. If the guy who blocked it had walked away and flexed in the other direction, none of this happens. As soon as he blocked it, then walked completely out of his way to stand over the K State player, he should have been T'd. What happened after that is on him, not the kid that stole the ball.

The steal didn't cause it and the swat didn't cause it. The taunting after the fact caused it.

And, for the record, the K State player in street clothes should face a pretty still penalty as well. He left the bench and then his actions lead to it flowing into the crowd.

If you steal the ball in the final seconds like that you should expect to be hacked & bloody. Not sure why anyone had a problem with the swat.
I'm with you, I would have swatted/fouled and then stood over him. Douchey move by the KSU player. Nothing worse than getting your arse kicked, then trying to steal the ball and score at the end down 20. So stupid.

Through the lifetime of people in our society we have become too lenient and promote lawlessness by not holding people accountable for their actions. Why as adults can we not demand strong action like suspensions for a long period, etc. how else does someone learn self control and respect for others. Sports can be a character builder but when that fails we have to hold these adults accountable to their actions. We do them no favors by glossing over what they’ve done.
I will ask this last question why has not Kansas been held accountable for their recruiting actions or North Carolina and their farce education classes? I’m sure there’s other blue bloods that have been allowed to break rules in their recruiting process. Again, it just promotes the same lawlessness.

Multiple suspensions for multiple games are in order.

Any punch thrown should result in a minimum multiple games suspension.

The gutless NCAA will do nothing. we'll see if the conference has any integrity. This is on the universities to take appropriate action first.
