For all posters (hereby remaining unnamed) that rip on Ellingson...

lol, way to ridiculously distort/twist what actually was said, good work. You have 35 posts, I assume you are a poster that has been banned many times and this is just a new handle for you. Better start planning your next one.

But hey, at least you have 1 fan that likes all your comments, so you have that going for you, which is nice.
You do realize that you are calling out a poster (me) using personal derogatory comments? Something I have yet to do. The irony...

I suggest you move on. Forgot schools are off today.
I've been a member since 2003; you since 2013. I obviously have other hobbies as I don't have 5,177 posts in two and a half years.

Edit: I like how you edited your previous post from saying "get a new hobby" to use more of an insult that "schools are off today"

A suggestion. hackeysack, you can change the title of the thread by going into the edit function and then look for a small tab that let's you change the title. Just take Hansonhawk's name out of the title.

I understand what you meant by starting the thread, but with or without his name 90% of the posters on here know the folks you mean, including him.

This has been quite the remarkable thread as by my count hawk-I-bob has been called out twice, I have once, we've learned we can't even like a post without even that small gesture coming back as having caused butthurt....

...I don't know, a million interpretations of what is criticism or what is out and out bashing, maybe the guys that folks repeatedly called out for it should quit making excuses and just accept that they indeed are bashers?

Fun times.....5-0 and people jumping on the bandwagon, others kicking them off....:)

But I can say this, what we say on here gets back to players. They try to avoid it but people are always coming up to them and saying, "Did you read this?" And I know one player that it hurt quit a bit until he grew a thicker skin. But is that what we want? I thought this was a Hawkeye site. Again, criticize but like the rules say....do it as if you would to a persons face.

Or, maybe it's time for a purge? This is Tom's site...not ours...just keep that in mind because if that day comes it's too late to play nice.

I love how the OP called someone out (which is against the rules here) for being critical of a player. Then, the OP goes on to be critical of Jok.

For the record, I like Ellingson and think he has a spot on this team going forward. That being said, Hansen has every right to voice his opinion of the players and I do not believe he crossed the line.

Tom, please ban the OP for calling out another poster ... this is going on far too much recently. To call someone out in a thread title and then exhibit the same behavior you are calling out that poster for is not acceptable.

Exactly, I am moving on though. Generally, we have done a good job of playing nice around here. But yeah, when someone posts crap like that what do u expect? Also, yes Bob, I do notice when you like every comment that is negative towards me, and don't try to call me out that I am just paying attention to you and your "likes." You know what you are doing.

Why I suggested Tom remove this thread from the beginning.

Didn't mean it to be a tear down of Jok. Clearly Jok has become a very good player and is only getting better. I gave the example to show that Jok's primary asset and role is perimeter shooter, but for some reason others think Ellingson is garbage because his only role is perimeter shooter. Ellingson hasn't been great at that role this year, but Jok wasn't a whole lot better at it his first year either.

Important to read this post, imo. "Didn't mean it to be a tear down of Jok." I wonder if posters know how many times we could avoid these silly squabbles if we ask the other guy what he MEANT by something?

I just find it funny, here were are 5-0, possibly best Hawkeye team in history, but yep, here we are, bitching about each other.

I like this message board though because it is more active than all the others. We have good conversations. Generally speaking, I am pretty positive with most of the threads.

Just when I do bring up anything negative, holy hell, WWIII. You don't always have to take everything personally around here.

Hanson, you and I have had some good tumbles and no, you are not often positive. :) And you are complaining now about being called out but you've repeated posted that hawk-I-bob wanted to fight you. Please don't try to play the "good little boy" crud because believe me, people know the kind of posts you put up.

Like I say, we should let this drop a bit...try to commutate better in the future without ripping players.

By the way. This is NOT the time for srams to be calling for banning anyone..it won't end well if we keep pushing the big bosses to do something.

Then take your own advice and don't take everything personally. Are you seriously watching certain poster's "likes" to see if they only like posts that disagree with yours?

Meanwhile, if I can figure it out I'll take Dan's advice and get your name off the thread topic, since you've clearly taken it personally.

It goes both ways. Why didn't the OP ask what Hansen meant.

Nope. Instead he created a thread specifically calling him out. How is that ok?

I was going to give you better directions...but I haven't done it for awhile and now I can't figure out how. It stinks getting old!!!

Yeah, not sure that edit makes anything better. lol. I think the cat is out of the bag.

So you say, "Ok, OP, I'm not going to quit saying what I think, but I'll try to watch how I say it. If you have a problem, we'll work it out."

Dead cat.

What's wrong with him having an opinion that Ellingson might not be a division one caliber player? It is his opinion (not mine btw). So, even though I disagree with Hansen's assessment of a player it does not mean that it is not okay for him to hold that opinion.

It is wrong, however, to specifically call out a poster in a thread (which despite the edit is what the OP did). You may not like someone's opinions or beliefs, but to call them out(especially in the thread title) is completely unacceptable.

Because its me who said it srams, that's the only thing wrong with it.

You are right, the OP specifically wanted to call me out and start a fight. That is why, imho, it is a bannable offense.

The way I interpret the rules, I view saying that Ellingson is not a Division One player as bashing. Is it something anyone would walk up to him and say? And what kind of "fix" is it? If anything go to McCaffery and complain about giving Ellingson a scholarship.

One thing people forget, I have had that stance way back when he was being recruited. When he signed, and when he redshirted. Yes, I still have that opinion, and I guess i have to apologize for having that opinion.

It's not like I have just said that or jumped on the kid because of his play all of a sudden. I think that makes a bit of a difference here.

As stated, hope he proves me wrong. THEN, you can start a thread and call me out. ;-)

How is that bashing a player anymore than lining up multiple bullet points showing the flaws in Iowa's second leading scorer (such as the OP did)?

Hansen is under the belief that Ellingson does not possess the ability to play at this level. Read scouting reports from college and NBA scouts. They will use that exact line many times. Example: Aaron White does not posess the skills to play at an NBA level. This is not "bashing" a player or coming at them personally. It is merely making an assessment on their skill level.

Again, I disagree with Hansen on Ellingson's skill level, but saying someone is not capable of playing at that level is not bashing anyone. Right or wrong, there were several players under Lickliter that were not capable of playing at this level. That's just my opinion. Not bashing.

He has already proven you wrong. He is a scholarship player on a Division 1 power 5 team averaging 3.8 pts/game in his freshman year. You said he is not Division 1 material and no better than a player from Wartburg or Upper Iowa. Thread started, you called out, your feelings hurt.

We can't compare the stats of two different players now? Oddly enough, the op was making a case that Ellingson could reach a higher level by saying Jok did. And that is player bashing Jok?

Aaron White is not playing in the NBA. Brady Ellingson is playing D1 basketball. Showing a couple of flaws in the game of Iowa's second leader scorer is a lot different than saying the third/fourth guy off the bench in the #9 team in the country is no better than a player from Wartburg or Upper Iowa.

We will agree to disagree on that (proving D1). Also never said he is no better than a wartburg or upper iowa player, more bs you have made up.

What I did say is you can find players similar to him with similar skill set at upper iowa or wartburg, and yes, I think that is true.

Players his size with his skill set you can find at those level programs.

So, that makes it ok for you to call another poster out and then negatively criticize another player on the team?

By the way, making a D1 team doesn't mean you are capable of playing at that level. We did lose to a whole team of them not too terribly long ago.

Note: I like Ellingson. Just pointing out the incorrect logic of your post.

You completely took that out of context. That does not surprise me though.

I was pointing out that assessing a player's level of skill relative to their level of play is not bashing. Try re-reading the post.

He invited it. He just said call me out when I'm proven wrong. I criticized a player on our team who is dominating right now, not one who is struggling, in order to make the point that the struggling player isn't as bad as some think.

Ellingson has done plenty more than make the team. If he wasn't capable of playing at the D1 level, then he wouldn't be averaging over 11 min/game for the #9 team in the country. Plenty of guys sit the bench in D1, including Fleming, Moss, and Hutton, all of whom Ellingson beat out for playing time this year. How's that logic?

So, if someone said, "come kill me" it would be alright to commit that offense? An invite makes it alright?

Come on hackeysack. Don't stoop so low. Calling out another poster is against the rules. All I ask is simply don't do it. Go check out some other threads and let's start talking Hawk basketball instead.

Personal derogatory comments like these are much worse than using a forum poster's handle in a thread title to argue his points. You are right that assessing a player's level of skill relative to their level of play is not bashing. Saying "Honestly, how is he different than some of the kids on Wartburg's or Upper Iowa's roster?" is.
