125- I'm giving a B- since he is a true freshman. Heinselman is quicker and I knew it would be a tough matchup. In the comeback win vs Surtin he had to just let it rip due to the score. Nothing to lose. Since starting he seems too calculated. Other guys are beating him to the shot. It's not his game. I'd like to see him gets bit more feisty, more physical, get a chip on his shoulder. I don't see the intensity I have seen before.

133- A

141- B. Looked slightly better vs decent opponent who stalled a lot.

149- B, great effort in a loss.

157- B, took care of business.

165- C, tough opponent but he knows he needs to do more to win these matches.

174- A, good win over tough opponent.

184, B, Abe was actually closer than I expected. Needs to keep building. Nice effort.

197- B- after gassing but with Jake it's just win baby. Not going to be stylish.

285- A-, he ended up winning by a lot but he dominated more last year.

Refs- F, a couple of clowns. Head guy had big man with a whistle attitude going.

Crowd- FOSU fans were a nice collection of stupidity.

Ryan- Eat it you sleaze ball pile of crap fraud.

MVP gets an A for day drinking Saturday morning trying to forget a rough night for the hawks. Well done sir

Edit: Since you made an edit, I will also. You're an angry elf this morning. But I can't say I disagree with much of what you said. More low lights than highlights but it's still great to be a Hawk fan. I strongly suspect Marinelli will have a big week in the room and that will pour over on to others. Let's go!!!

tOSU always seems huge. They have a few guys every year that have to be cutting a ton of weight. I'm not sure how Karchla makes 165 (or Jordan ever made 174 for that matter) but their S & C coach is doing a good job with some of their upper weights. Disappointed in our overall performance, but never felt the meet was in question. Next Friday night will tell the tale. We need to get better, but have 2 months to do it. I hope PSU is peaking now.

Alex and Jaydin remind of Tony Ramos his senior year. Tony wrestled tight all season and dropped a couple of matches he should have won. At nationals, Tony's matches all came down to the last minute/seconds. Seemed to feel the pressure all year, but he gutted it out. Alex and Jaydin give off the same vibe. May they have the same finish as Tony.

Two good Heinselman matches to watch:

1. His loss to Kaylor at CKLV in Dec, which is why he's only ranked #18 now (he's been as high as #8 in the past). Kaylor has a heavy tie, then sweeps a single while keeping the head. In the 3rd he takes him down by a throw-by attempt into a scramble and double leg--just creates movement to open something up.

2. His loss to Suriano on 1/14. Suriano puts downward pressure on the head, then (a) picks the far ankle, (b) bull rushes him.

Heinselman never wins by a lot--only 1 bonus match this season, but he's quick, slick, and hard to penetrate because of his bent-over "Russian" stance. In both of the matches above you see how to score on him, and the key is controlling his head to get him off-balance.

Wouldn't say that about ayala. Heinselmans good, someone you have to feel out once. And he scored a clutch last second takedown to push ot. The other two yes

First time I've ever seen heinselman get mentioned as good when compared to an iowa 125. Personally I think it should be concerning that he outmuscled Drake. Heinselman is one of the weaker 125 in the big ten. He's quick for sure though.

Ayala wrestled not to lose??? Please tell me that’s a typo…. Kid wrestles like his damn hair is on fire and I absolutely LOVE it.

Yep, reminds me (so far) of Megaludis - a ton of activity with few committed shoots. He's too friggin good to be wrestling like this. Points don't just magically appear on the scoreboard.

Seemed to me like Heinselman used Drake's aggression against him to score on counters. Drake not scoring isn't from a lack of attacks. Seems like the lack of attacking is a hard thing to overcome mentally for some of the Hawks right now. Drake just needs to clean up those shots and diversify, which is not surprising for a true freshman. I'm hoping this will happen in the next two months, not necessarily in the next 2 weeks.

Great post here. Drake likes to tap the right hand on the back of the head and then he uses his speed to create the angle for his left hand sweep single. We’ve seen In The last few matches opponents tying up his left wrist. The adjustments are there to be made and he’s talented enough to and has enough work ethic to get better. I’m still very high on Drake.

As soon as Drake decides he's a badass, it shall come to pass.

A hard snap and a quick go behind would work well if Drake is strong enough for a big snap.

one thing i've noticed is drake is having a hard time getting inside control, especially with his right hand inside tie he uses to get to his single. he's getting out handfought and it's slowing down his offense. hard to snap people when you're mostly thumb blocking on the outside.

Heinselman's really not that good. He's an NQ/r16 kinda guy that just doesn't seem to improve much year over year. He's technically very solid but lacks finishing power vs stronger wrestlers, which is most. I don't expect him to ever AA although he'd be a title contender at 117 (Heinselman vs Kurt McHenry for the 117 title LOL). His win over Ayala was a bigger surprise than Kharchla over Bull.

That being said Ayala is really good and as a true freshman and will continue to improve. A loss like last night now and then is gonna happen, especially on foreign soil. I would expect him to win round 2 comfortably.

I don't see ayala ever losing to him again. Like I said before you have to get a feel for him. Example being Howard last year.
