Fran Booted for getting his 2nd T

Yeah, no, the refs were not bad at all. You must be Fran's wife to say something that stupid.
No, I’m talking in general, B1G refs are bad.

Did you not see the opening sequence that took them 5 minutes to figure who should have possession of the ball after the tip? It’s pretty simple, shot clock violation, Iowa ball at 19:25, yet they gave the ball to Michigan when Iowa never had possession, it was a loose ball.

And I’m bagging on Fran because he always wants to scream at the refs like it’s their fault. I know reading comprehension is hard so I’ll try to use small words for you next time.

Maybe play a one (Bowen/Harding) two (Perkins, Dix), three (P Sandfort, Dembele, Pr Sandafort), four (Freeman, McCaffrey, Brauns), Five (Krikke, Freeman).

I’d start Bowen, Perkins, Payton, Freeman, and Krikke as the best five of the group but Fran can’t bring himself to not start Patrick.

It’s time for Fran to go after another coach and season of blatant nepotism. I’m over it and tired of it. Add in his over the top tirades, and that he can’t close the deal on top talent for a variety of reasons. It’s time for fresh blood leading the program.
We knew something was wrong with the lack of playing time for Keegan; this process of not playing the best players for some idiotic personal reasons (Kirk and Fran) has gotten completely out of control. Kirk’s reasons are grounded in discipline but Fran’s are grounded in obvious nepotism. Grounds for definite AD interdiction at a minimum.

Something interesting to know would be: What were the playing minutes per year of the kids that ended up in the G league or the NBA vs the playing time of his 2 kids? Like, Connors freshmen year, how many minutes did he play that year vs some of the kids who moved to the G league after that year ended(ie. Cook, Garza, weiskamp etc). I would guess that Connors minutes would be lower, but you wonder just how much lower it was. Now move to Connor's senior year and Patricks sophomore year. How did their minutes compare to people like the Murrays. Cause when both of them were on the same team, it seemed like there was NEVER a time when one of them wasn't on the court!

With his repeated sportsmanship issues, Beth Goetz should put him on a performance improvement plan. Set expectations for improved sportsmanship. When he inevitably loses control again, threaten to fire for cause and then negotiate to a retirement following the season.

First kick in nuts I remember was Jacksonville 1970. Should have prepared me for next 50t years. 1979-1989 was sure fun except for gut wrenching NCAA losses.
I was 2 then so I don't remember that one - I think my first gut punch was Toledo in the tournament during Lester's junior year. Then he hurt his knee the next year when they were undefeated, followed by a great run to the Final 4 and then he hurts it again. No doubt in my mind Iowa wins the NC if Lester doesn't get hurt.

I don't think any of that is necessary. He's leaving.

I think there were a couple things going on here. One, he may have been trying to fire the guys up. Two, Fran does tend to be very protective of his players (maybe a bit too much). Three (and I really think this is what fueled all this). I think with two blowouts in a row, how poorly they have played, maybe, especially Patrick, he just needed to vent. Didn’t agree with him, but I can understand it. At least he didn’t stare down the guy.
It would protect his players to teach them some defense

Unfortunately I remember exactly where I was at watching Toledo game. Last second shot. Blew double digit lead just like Hawks did in 1981 against WSU.
Don't remember what I did yesterday 😕

Like I have said, once Garza's group got bounced, that was basically it. My first Iowa game was Ronnie Lester's freshman year against Cal, and there have been FAR FAR more gut punches than highs watching this program for 40 plus years. I don't find watching Iowa Basketball enjoyable. Repeated kicks in the nuts wouldn't be enjoyable but that's been what it has felt like the majority of the time watching this program shit the bed year after year. Lute Olson is a hall of fame coach and my God did he have some of the worst luck come tournament time.

I just got tired of it and only follow casually.

I'm significantly younger than you but I have heard the stories.

If he was trying to fire up the team, it didn't seem to work. He has zero credibility left with the B1G officiating staff at this point. And did you see Margaret after the second T? Running down to the sidelines to yell at the official. Embarrassing.
Thats a really bad look as well. Really is time for them to part ways......

I haven’t watched the last three games and don’t plan on watching anymore. The women’s team is can’t miss TV in our household. Even three years ago, I never would have predicted I would say that.

The "firing up the guys" argument only works when it is used sparingly. When you blow up at the officials every game it is no longer an effective tool. Aside from that, Iowa has absolutely no margin for error, so 4 free points to the opposition is never worth the dubious possible upside.

Frankly, this is all very sad to me, as Fran seems like he is a great guy away from the court.

You had no idea you were a fair weather fan?
