FM will not get fired and the only way he will be gone is if he chooses to leave IMO. But he definitely seems incapable of coaching a team up with a short turnaround against an unfamiliar team. Which obviously does not bode well for Hawkeye fans now and in the future.

The Hawks played well. They defended well, rebounded well. Joe T didn't play well and neither did Kris. Hawks walk away with an easy W if they just shoot their season averages.

Pinning this one on Fran is absurd. This game was there to be won and the players didn't get it done.

This blowing it in the post season isn't a one off this is a pattern. The we were picked to finish in the bottom 4 and finished in the top 5 is a silly argument. Ask yourself why in the hell a coach who has been at a school for over a decade has a team expected to finish in the bottom 4. Lastly with all of these All-Americans why can't Fran make it to at least the Sweet 16. Do I want to ignore the BTT? Yes pretty much. Conference tournaments are often crap shots

I think I can sum this thread up in one sentence.

You fail to meet a fairly minimal expectation (a sweet 16) for this long and it is going to make Iowa fans upset.

If you were great at two parts of your job and stunk at the third, and that happened to be a particularly important function - your boss probably wouldn't be happy and he might even think about canning you. So, my point is, pointing to the coach and telling him to fix this, or pointing and saying that after 12 years he should know better, IS A RATIONAL RESPONSE.

Perkins starting at 2G....Fans were calling for that at start of season

JBO not effective as 2G, so move him back to PG...well if PG was the correct position for JBO then it was Fran that had him at the wrong position.

This team has a lot of talent...getting them to 12 and 8 in B1G is sor of meh.....losing in 1st round of NCAA to an A10 team, that is definitely meh.

Maybe next year.

I think if every fan on here was told twelve years ago the new coach would be here 12 years and have 0 sweet sixteen appearances, %100 of us would have rightfully wanted to move on to a new coach. Fran brought Iowa back to being respectable and fun, but the reality is we are going nowhere with him. He just isn’t recruiting well enough. He struck gold with the Murray’s, but failed go anywhere with them.

Should he be fired? No. Has he done a good coaching job this season? Yes. That said they were a five seed and as such viewed as a very good team expected to win this game. It’s time to quit making excuses. Last year they were a two seed and get blown out. This year lose to a Richmond team that honestly didn’t even play that well today.
Iowa as a program needs to ask themselves why aren’t we prepared or the aggressor when we get into the Dance? They looked unprepared, uninspired and indifferent today just like against Oregon, Gonzaga ect.

You can, but would not advise, anyone to judge a season on one game. We played terrible today... shot beyond terrible.

This team played with heart and effort. What else can you ask?

I agree with you on that but for some odd reason I'm going the other way. Iowa is starting to find consistent levels of success. The other shoe has to drop at some point.

What you just posted made less sense that what I posted. Fran's teams typically center around one player too much allowing for All-Americans but the team then in turns struggles when that one player struggles. At no point did the subject of post play come up.

Wow, no recovery from a team that was picked to finish 10th in the BIG preseason?
They finished 5th and won the BIG tourney.
Won 26 games, with one of the youngest teams in the league.

Yes they lost to a mid-major team that had numerous super seniors on their roster. To shoot only two free throws in the second half when we have more completions than our completion had shot from the line over the season is crazy. I told my wife that you never know how the game will be called. They call a slight tap on Perkins at the end of the half giving Burton three FT but Chris is hit so hard the ball is 6 feet short, no call? Cayo body and hand checked Keegan all game, no calls. In the BIG those are fouls.

In the end, they plugged the middle and dared us to make threes, we shot 22%. Their coach said they were not going to let Keegan and JBo beat us. They double and triple teamed Keegan on most plays. Patrick shot well but nobody else really contributed. Fran can't make the shots.

Very good season, that ended with a thud. Unfortunately Keegan will probably be gone but I like a starting line-up with Joe T or Ulis, Perkins, Patrick, Kris and Rebracca. Mulvey or Big O substitute in the post, Sanfort on the wing, Bowen looks to be the real deal. Fran should look for a PF in the portal. Next year could be very good.

4-6 in NCAA Tournament games under Fran.

Just something there that in 12 years he can't take it to the next level, regardless of talent on the floor. This is not a one year thing. I understand he can't make the shots for them but this is not a one game thing. This is not being able to get past the first and/or second round of the Tournament even having Luka and Keegan. Probably most disappointed in this year's ending because as opposed to past teams, this one played better defense and typically showed a lot of toughness.

That being said they blew away most people's expectations for the entire season including the BTT Championship but similar to a previous comment, next year I would gladly trade off a BTT Title for a Sweet 16 appearance. Speaking of which I wish the BIG TEN would change the timing of the BTT.
