What do we know about this 220 wrestler from Minnesota. It seems with a name like that he is destined to be a Hawkeye. And he looks like an extremely good wrestler.

His brother wrestles for Minnesota. Right now from early comments and reading some articles it would seem that the Gophers are probably an early leader, but he is just entering his sophomore year.

Hi first time poster, been following for a long time, but finally got an account. Big Hawk fan, and like the info on this board, hope I can provide some insight. Stevenson is in my opinion the real deal. He is an athlete, and has been used at heavy to close out duals...he has just been dominate as an 8th grader and freshmen...I don't know anyone his age and weight that can give him a go. He would be a great get, but like mentioned above his brother is at the UofM...I would think he would go there as well, but crazier things have happend.

Gable recently listed his schools that he likes on a Takedown Wrestling interview. Minnesota, Ohio State, Penn State, Oklahoma State and Iowa State. He spent time in Iowas room when he was younger, but I think that interest has passed.

I'd say psu will manage to wave their magic wand for yet another full ride except they got the youngest Nevills coming up about the same age and weight.
I have absolutely no knowledge on how PSU distributes their 9.9 scholarships but I highly doubt very few are full rides. I'd guess many of their wrestlers are from well to do families and sacrifice because they prefer to wrestle for Cael and attend PSU. Like I said though, I'm as in the dark about these things as the next guy. As for Gable, I always assumed Minny will be his landing spot but I started to waver from that after the Hall signing thinking they may be close and Hall helps get him to PSU. I'm also pretty sure The Ohio State match wasn't his first trip to State College this season. Everyone thought Minny was a shoe in to land Hall for the longest time just as we think the same about Gable. So I'm not counting anything out...

Yep Cael only recruits kids from wealthy families.

Doesn't their wrestling club pay off all student debt for their wrestlers essentially giving everyone a full ride that graduates?

Are you being sarcastic or being serious? I have my own thoughts about this but really interested if others think a families financial situation plays a part in the recruiting process.

I am not being serious. I have stated my theories on how they are able to recruit so many top top level guys. It has nothing to do with recruiting wealthy kids.

That's what a few are saying around here. I'd think that's against some sort of NCAA rule though. Also, are these wrestling clubs that well financed to be able to pay these tabs off? Hell, I was always under the impression that there wasn't a whole lot of money in wrestling. I mean the movie fox catcher depicted the National Team never having any money and the wrestlers struggling to pay the bills while they trained. Has things changed?

I'll have to do a search when I get time to see your theories. I'm seriously interested to know. I started having my own thoughts about this back in the summer. I have a job that takes me into many neighborhoods throughout the state where quite a few PSU wrestlers parents reside. There was one home that struck me immediately. I won't say who the wrestler is but I immediately thought he didn't need any scholarship help at all. I mean there's rich and then there's rich. These people are loaded. Wouldnt surprise me one bit if the family of this elite wrestler took absolutely no scholarship money to wrestle for Cael and to help spread the funds somewhere else to get another elite wrestler that was more needy.

Welp, given recent history, we know which school we can rule out from that list!

We just have to bite the bullet Cal will get Gable and the calif kid also but guess what the day will come when all the riches will tumble and rumor has it it is not to far away from happening.

Who's the California kid you speak of? Rumor? What rumor?

With ISU being on the list with their recent lack of success I am assuming this kid is named after Dan Gable the wrestler and not the coach....that being said maybe an ISU fan (hence the token top 5 school) and no Iowa in top spot??? Total speculation, but if I named my son Kinnick his ass better at least not put ISU as a top school

Not sure..............but if you named your son Kinnick you might want to look for a good divorce lawyer. :D:D:D Just so your wife doesn't beat you to the punch.

Don't laugh... someone in my hometown named their son "Kinnick" . Not lying.

Actually Kinnick prolly isn't so bad.

We've got a guy here named PapaBearSlim. So In comparison...............

Sorry.........You told me not to..............can't help it............still laughing........
I have connections... I can find out where you live.

And like Donald Trump, I "know" people.

Regarding your statement about this PapaBearSlim... if that is his first name, is his last name "Fast"?

Sorry to curse, but WTF?

So assume my son is a great wrestler. I want to pay his way to Iowa to leave scholly's for other wrestlers. Is that allowed? Now, my two nephews are really good wrestlers also. I would like to pay their way to wrestle at Iowa also. Is that allowed? And crazy thing, they all actually wrestle in a great club together and three of the studs there have always just called me "uncle" because of all of our wrestling trips, club events, etc. Because they call me uncle, I'd really like to pay their way to wrestle at Iowa also. Is that allowed? And lastly, they attended a few camps where they got to know the top kid in CA, IL and PA. We've been on a few trips together now and, you guessed it, they are great kids and I would like to pay their way to wrestle at Iowa also. Is that allowed? And.....so.......yep......

I'd say go for it, and your secret is safe with me.

Yes. Anybody can choose to pay for any kids college. Any non scholarship wrestler can certainly use family money or friend money or private scholarship money. Not every kid has 40k a year laying around for a rainy day. You can legally start your own scholarship today and pick the winner. This is not unusual and certainly not illegal. "We have to stop all of these evil rich people paying for college for less fortunate kids" Really?
