GarzaWatch - End Of Watch: #7 Big Ten All-Time Career Points

If the B1G officials hadn't decided that the opposing players trying to guard Luka were so overmatched that they should be allowed to maul him on every possession, the scoring record at Iowa would be already out of reach due to all the extra FT's Garza would be shooting (and hopefully making). If you watch the game and focus on Garza's possessions, it really is unreal what they are allowing. They should be ashamed to ever call a foul on him at the other end of the court.

Yeah....some of the fouls called on Garza were pretty ticky-tack compared to what he deals with. It was comical at times. Like, sad, comical.

With the remaining 5 BT regular season games, up to 3 BTT games (possible Round 2, QFs, SFs) and if Iowa can make the NCAA FF (5 NCAA rounds), there would be 13 remaining contests in the 2021 season.

At 24.7 ppg, Garza could finish the season with up to 2425 points and pass Rick Mount (#6 BT All Time, 2323 points)

He would be within "about 1 more game" of reaching Glenn Rice at #3 (2442 points)

Updated after PSU and breaking record

With 4 Regular Season Games, and perhaps 8 postseason games, Garza would be on pace for 2419 points in his career, and 6th on the BT Career Scorers list, about 20 pts shy of Steve Alford.

Garza Projection Under (4 RS + 5 PS games): 2345 Career points
Garza Projection Over (4 RS + 8 PS games): 2419 Career points

Under
is 2-3 BTT games, 2-3 NCAAT games (5 total)
Over is "best case) 3 BTT games, and 5 NCAAT games (1 Final Four game, 8 total)

Either would land him in the #6 spot all time for Big Ten Career points.

A moment of quiet meditation please, focusing on the hope that if we play Illinois in BTT, we don't have the same somnolent crew that somehow concluded that Illinois played ten whole minutes of hotly contested basketball WITHOUT COMMITTING A SINGLE EFFING FOUL.

OOOOOOOMMMMMMM...

With possibly 2 BBT games, and 3 NCAA Tourney games, Luka can realistically reach 2320 career points, and push for passing #6 Rick Mount at 2323 (Purdue, 1968-70).

If Iowa plays in 6 or more postseason games, he would likely cement himself into 6th place, All Time.

3 more games and he would potentially pass Gary Grant at 2222 points (and Louis Bullock/abandoned years record at 2224)

Who are the three ahead of Luka on Iowa’s all-time double-double list?

I’ll guess that Greg Stokes is one of them, and maybe Jess Settles?

NCAA Tourney projection:

If Iowa can play into the Sweet 16, that's 3 more games for Garza to accrue career points.

At the 23.7 ppg pace, 3 more games would move him from 2246 points to 2317 points, within 6 of Rick Mount at #6 all time.

If he scores above his average, Rick Mount's place on the chart would be well within range.

A decent bet that Iowa has 3-6 more games left, if they play well in the tourney, and will be fun to see Garza against teams that probably haven't seen a big man like him all year.

Mount did it in just 72 games over three seasons. 32.3 average for career. Just an amazing shooter. His career average is by far the best.
