Gilman

LOL? Winning a match against Nato (zero time world teamer) doesn't mean anything. This guy is saying that Gilman is lucky that Lee wasn't there, otherwise he wouldn't have won an OLYMPIC bronze medal. That's just stupid. Put your foot on the line and compete. And then to say that DT was lucky that Dake wasn't at his weight, after he wins Olympic gold, is just doubling down on stupidity. Gobblin is just a bitter idiot, plain and simple.
Man seeing Dake and Taylor wrestle each other now would be a real treat.

Stay classy, be better….. proceeds to disparage people and name call.
Can’t figure out why people don’t like that.Doesn’t realize or acknowledge his hypocrisy.
Mensa membership is not in the cards.
Yeah he’s calling a guy who disagrees with his take on the Gable match a dumbass. Little willie is so thin skinned.

I need to buy stock in Budweiser, seems like a lot is being consumed lol

I bought stock once it took a massive dip solely due to "corona" virus. Got in around $42/share. It was doing fantastic, but struggling lately.

He must have a different definition of ‘classy’ and ‘better’.
Maybe that is classy and better for him. If you have little to no standards I can see it.

Great thread! Nice morning read after getting back from a 5 day golf trip!

Recap:

1.)Pretty damn good performance from a known "choker" 🤭 Sorry, I couldn't resist since I see I was called out for being his defender after he lost 5-4 late to the now 3-time defending champ. Maybe that was more about how good Uguev is than Gilman choking? Bronze medalist after losing 1st round implies much more of a strong constitution than being a choker in my opinion!

2.)Gilman DESERVES most of what was said on here from UNDENIABLY the most diehard fanbase in college wrestling. Add in that many of those that post on here are EVEN MORE diehard than the regular fanbase and OF COURSE they have the right to call out Gilman and flat out dislike him for how he left Iowa and some of the things he has said done/since. Not to mention he went to the only place that has consistently taken it to Iowa the past decade. With that said, I don't blame him for leaving with Spencer there and he isn't going to stop being himself when he goes somewhere else.

3.)Willie is RIDICULOUSLY STUBBORN. To the point that he backhandedly insults those that are trying to agree with him or at least distance themselves from the people he ACTUALLY should be arguing against. TRY to find a compromise once in your life or, at the very least, be better and SPECIFY who you are talking about before COMPLETELY making yourself a liar by saying you are only having an issue with a select few and then flat out calling the ENTIRE FORUM a cesspool! Can you not see how disingenuous that is? The hypocrisy destroys EVERY OUNCE of your credibility to anyone smart enough to see the situation without fanbase colored glasses.

4.)Gilman is Gilman. Some PSU guys on here are giving themselves a bit too much credit. A World Silver at Iowa and then a Bronze at PSU DOES NOT show that Gilman has "Obviously made technical improvements".

5.)In all seriousness, this argument is really drawn out over VERY SMALL slights that could easily have been ignored on both sides. Love him or hate him, Thomas is the EXACT guy he was when he was at Iowa. If both sides can see that, there really is nothing to see here(except a ton of back and forth name calling for a fun read in the early AM)!!

I avoided this board through the Olympics cause I watched most the wrestling recorded..... first thread I read since our outstanding US wrestling freestyle teams performances..... led by two Hawkeye head coaches..... did you see Taylor hug Zadick after his gold medal match?
as hard as it is sometimes (because of past rivalries) I cheer for whomever is wearing the USA singlet to win....Gilmans behavior kinda took the shine off him but still....
honestly as much as I hate it sometimes a wrestler going to a new environment and working with different coaches and training partners can pick up new things..... Synder went to NlWC too and our HWC has a lot of ground to make up.... that’s just my opinion taking it all im
Smalls .... Willie..... Uncle Fester.... what ever you call the piece of shit is a troll and makes money being a troll and getting attention however he can..... the thing that pisses me off most is him using our term of endearment for this board we call the cesspool on twitter for his personal gain..... **** that guy 😎

then i'm not talking about you.

how many times do i have to post that i'm talking about the people that were totally out of bounds in this thread?

how many times do i have to post that i never, not once, said 'iowa fans'?
"4-page thread where y'all ripped him to shreds then"

This is your quote. It isn't directed at anyone in particular and it isn't a reply to anyone in particular. Its a stand alone post directed at Iowa fans on this message board. It comes off as calling out Iowa fans in general.

LOL. Well said, he's a dbag.

who do you think first called this place the cesspool ya dummy

I’ve been on this board 20 years ya dummy..... guess I don’t know where it started but we adopted it affectionately.... guessing if you first coined it it was adopted to spite your ass.... I spend an average of 5 to 10 minutes a day on here....at most offseason..... but you have always stuck out as a troll..... usually I don’t waste my time responding to you.... guess I’m slipping..... have I mentioned you can go **** yourself?

Geezus. A lot seems to have happened while I was in France for my poorly timed family trip!

The main thing that spurred the move was the fact his wife is from Pennsylvania and wanted to be closer to her family. "Obvious technical improvement"?? His technique and style did not look any different then when he was a Hawk and with the HWC.
Style similar…but his execution was much better. Finished shots instead of getting stuck or settling for a push out.

Willie=Al Gore.

The latter invented the Internet and the former the Cesspool of the Internet. Two "Great Americans" with delusions of grandeur!
Dude, you don’t have to go back twenty years to find a politician in Washington with delusions of grandeur and illegitimate claims to fame. Lol (And I don’t particularly care for Al Gore, btw.)

Although that is definitely true, none have been so brash as to say they invented the Internet. As such, Mr. Gore's "invention" fit so much better with Mr. Willie's "invention"!

Some nuggets from BWI on the Nittany Lion Thomas Gilman. He is no longer a douchebag or punk b****. He suddenly is down right likeable, articulate, well spoken and focused. He would beat Spencer Lee. He is 10 times better than he was 6 months ago at wrestling and a 2nd place World silver medal is = to a 5th at the Olympics.

He will probably be the next head coach at PSU and lead world domination. Can you feel it?!

My sister's house in Coos Bay is just two houses down from where Pre lived as a child. There is a plaque in front of the house.
A g/f who grew up in Eugene showed me a few of Pre’s haunts and running routes awhile back. I think she was surprised that I even knew who he was.

Pre went to Marshfield High (our cross-town rivals since I went to North Bend High) in Coos Bay, which is where Travis Wittlake attended.

IMO, everyone who helped Gilman develop into the wrestler he is should be taking a victory lap for his Bronze at the Olympics. There is no doubt Gilman was a world class wrestler when he came to NLWC and NLWC did a nice job in preparing him to perform at a high level at the Olympics.

However, I think it is clearly harder to win an Olympic medal than it is to win a worlds medal. Getting a medal at the Olympics is every wrestler's dream and the pinnacle of the sport. That is why there is an Olympic Redshirt available in College and not a Worlds Redshirt. Couple that with the fact that there are 4 less weight classes at the Olympics and I do not see how you can argue differently. The talent that is spread out over 10 weight classes at Worlds is crunched into 6 weight classes at the Olympics.

Maybe true but the run he made starting from last chance qualifier to world silver may be even more impressive overall. Especially coming off of a devastating NCAA tourney.

It was said by a Penn State fan to downplay Gilmans past world Silver. Gilman had a great draw to get to the bronze match right off the bat at the Olympics. Not downplaying him at all, he wrestled well indeed and earned it. But he didn't all of a sudden get 10 times better once he moved East. He was already world class before he got there, just like you said.

The 10 down to 6 weight class argument doesn't really hold up well when speaking about 57 kg. You don't have guys moving up and down to fill the weight and VERY few guys are coming down from 61 kg and setting 57kg on fire.

Drawing Uguev 1st round probably makes his draw harder than he has had so far, but it also gave him his best chance to still medal after losing prior to the finals. Still, I would say he looked like very much the same wrestler to me. Dogged determination for the entire 6 minutes, great positioning, heavy on the head with specific low level attacks. When he avoids a big mistake he can beat anyone at the weight. However, his style lends to close matches against the better competition and it means he could lose to the top 6-8 guys as well.

Simply put, I noticed very little in his actual wrestling that transcended who he has always been. A new environment may have given him a much needed mental reset, but his best wrestling is still VERY similar!

who was at 57KG that made that weight class harder than a non olympic year?
