Grades - just cause I'm feeling helpful

Reports are that Gomez won't be down at 133 until CKeen. Small, the backup got beat today. The only question, to me, is how badly Small loses to either Glynn or Teasdale.

But I'm with you... Carr/Young should be pretty good.

Small is better than he looked yesterday. He beat Glynn 7-3 last year at Lindenwood. If we are serious about doing well in this meet I'd wrestle AD at 133 and Murin at 141 assuming he is good to go otherwise maybe Happel. There is no guarantee Glynn or GT will win 133 and AD wresting light at 141 vs a game Parker is playing with fire as well.

Superb trajectory Nelson is on. There is already so much about that young man that impresses me. Relentless in neutral and I think he will be fine on top. That just leaves bottom where larger or elite 84's could give him the business. I have no doubt he will work to improve in this area and, quite frankly, I have little to no idea how he does in this aspect. Hoping to see some for myself at Midlands.

I think because he has earned his success every step of the way he will make great strides toward any goals he sets his eyes on.

Teasdale by all accounts is elite in neutral and I doubt he spent much time at all under someone in high school. (Keep it strictly wrestling related here ladies and gents). Most struggles come in the first few years of college getting out from a quality ride.

If I had to speculate I would think that Gavin would have the longer learning curve this season. I think both can figure it out. Could just be a lot of unnecessary worry on my part; I tend to do that.

Just stand up and get out. Seems like the easiest thing in the world to do until someone your size or bigger is holding you down.

But he'll never be at 84 this year unless he goes full feed starting tomorrow. Surely Dawgs performance alleviated any doubt that he is back at full strength and no reason to keep Nelson down to be his defacto back-up correct?

From my eyes he is not a full 184 ever. Does not have the frame for it. If he is walking around at 180 now as has been stated he would maybe be able to add 5-10 pounds of good weight by the end of the year if he was all in at 184. Most 184 guys are walking around at 200+. 180 is what most 165s weigh before cutting. That said he may have the ability to do well at 184 even being undersized, there could also be times a big ass 184 gives him trouble. Him at 174 is important insurance as well, coaches will have to earn their money deciding how to proceed.

I believe you, but I'm not sure an ISU win by decision @ 133, if it happens, will make much difference in the final result.

My opinion at 141 is that the best chance for a win for the Hawks is DeSanto with his pace. Parker is very good.

Preface this with at the moment. A healthy Murin would win this year as well.

I like AD to win 133 vs Small as a likely thing to happen. Take the "sure" thing at 133 and see what you can do at 141 vs a hope to win at both weights.

I guess if Brands is concerned about winning or having a close dual... go that route. With a minimum of 4 bonus matches probably in Iowa's favor, I don't think it matters.

I'm just not as high on Small, but I haven't seen him wrestle. I'm just going off his bad loss yesterday.

There's a lot of people knocking Lugo on here. I thought he wrestled just fine. He lost a tough scramble in the 1st period, otherwise he would've been in bonus point range and more than likely picks it up in the 3rd. He wrestled smart and was in total control the entire match. I never thought he was in danger throughout that. To me, he's a similar style Sorensen, though obviously not as dominate, but he wrestles slower paced matches. Bottom line, he's always in it and doesn't get his ass kicked. And with that mindset he's never going to get blown out of the water either.
I think we'd be in a tough way the past two years if he didn't transfer in.

I think KY and Lugo were practicing situational wrestling more than anything. KY hardly generated any offense but still had 7 or so TD's. That's pretty damn good.
Brands keep saying they're working things out. There's no better time to work things out than against live competition.

Anyone else think it'd make sense for Young and Marinelli to swap weights? Young has the bigger frame and even held his own at 174. Imagine Marinelli's physicality at 157. No idea if he could make that cut, but it's an interesting thought.

I think Marinelli is the best wrestler in the country at 165 (notwithstanding the 6th and 7th place finishes at NCAAs the last few years!), and Young should be top 5 at 157, so I wouldn't roll the dice on new weight classes for either of them.

It’s been said that Spencer will have to wrestle himself into shape. What does he gain from a 1st period tech if he needs the mat time working towards the Olympics. Everybody just needs to calm down they are so tightly wound about him.
They def practiced through this match I had said I would not be surprised if they practiced earlier in the day.

I definitely get this thought, but I think it would ultimately give you 1 title contender instead of 2. I think Young and Marinelli can both win where they are now. I think Young is a mid AA ceiling at 165.

125 - Mackal #8
133 - Gomez #5 (if wrestling)
141 - Parker #13
149 - Degen #4
157 - Carr #20 (will be much higher)
165/174 - None
184 - Colbray #6
197 - No
HWT - Gremmel - #16

sorry inspite - similar time - mine are from flo.

So the takeaway from this is that we should have a good match, with Iowa pitching the shutout until we get to 84, which should be a close match if Brands is back out there, and sadly - and likely - a close loss if Cash wrestles, despite the fact that Cash can wrestle with and beat anyone at 84 cept perhaps Zahid. And then of course we can expect 97 to be a tossup based on the rankings of both wrestlers...just like yesterday and many of his matches last year. Not sure which is more painful, watching Cash or Warner. And the frustrating thing is that they're both fricking studs, yet they spend 7 minutes doing a whole lot of f'ing nothing. So much talent, so little offense.
