Have you ended any family or friend relationships because of Trump?

I think Trumpsters who are real gun-ho about it will probably be vocal about their support more than non-supporters would like, but I think the Libs are much more likely to be the ones acting like children and disowning. It's part of a losing culture.

Think about it this way. Do you like being around people you have little in common with?

I guarantee I would not like you, and I’m sure vice versa. So if you were my family member, why would I choose to do anything more with you than the bare minimum?

Ended? No. Changed? Yes. My dad and his wife are both Trump supporters and she has become immersed in the conspiracy theories. It’s not because they vote differently. It’s bc they can’t stfu about it. They preach their message to the younger grandkids. They talk about it at Christmas. Hell, I got together with old friends for beers before a high school football playoff game. One of my friends was talking about his son who is paralyzed from the waist down and my dad interrupted him and started talking politics. It’s not really the side they are on, it’s bc they are so outspoken about it at inappropriate times.

No, I would never end a family relationship or friendship because of Trump. I would be lying if I didn’t say it made me lose respect for them and doesn’t make me question their character and intelligence, but if they mean well and treat me with respect I am going to do the same.

Frankly, I have had more problems with far left liberals than I ever have with hardcore MAGAs despite how stupid they are.

My Dad is a life long Democrat and voted for Trump twice because he thought Trump would "shake things up" and "prevent World War 3."

That viewpoint makes no sense to me lol.

33% of my friends are huge Dims. Some are hippy, vegetarian, save the earth dims. Some are pro-gay, trans, other wacko dims. Some are socialist, everyone gets a medal, tax the rich dims. We have things in common other than politics because our lives and self-esteem doesn't revolve around politics.

Uh Huh Yes GIF

Hell no. I don’t care how people vote.
The people in Nebraska have voted away our own liberties, that is disturbing to me. I'm soon to be 65 and have lived in Nebraska my whole life. You choose this life because you want to be left alone, not bothered. I never thought I'd see a time when a well funded campaign would get Nebraskan's to vote against their self interest, and yet here we are. I respect their voices, but I'm not going to let it go without pointing to their stupidity.

Not ended them but we don’t talk about anything other than the weather pretty much with one side of the family after a particularly nasty Christmas explosion during Trumps first term…both sides of the political spectrum were yelling at each other. In all my years this was never a thing until Trumps first go around.

And I want to be clear this is not just “no politics” it’s literally nearly anything because if you say something like, “did you see the local girls HS bball team lost at state?” Has about a 50-50 shot of devolving into both sides yelling at each other about the liberals allowing trans athletes to take over girls sports.

This was never a thing until Trump broke this country
Your bias is showing.

No, no one has been cut off. Just lots of wondering how we got here. My dad has gone off the deep end. Other relatives have been the downfall. Now he gets his Epoch news delivered weekly. During COVID he told me about some horse food to eat to cure you. I looked up the author of the article and the guy had been to prison twice for fraud. Did t seem to phase by dad when I told him. It’s really crazy to say the least.

What are their favorite conspiracy theories?
It’s mostly her. Unfortunately my bro had the task of driving them to the airport for their flight to Florida. He said she didn’t take a breath for an hour talking about government led land grabs, weather controls, etc. I have asked my dad on multiple occasions to consider time and place when he goes off on his diatribes. My step dad is super liberal. If he acted the same way I would ask him kindly to stop as well.

I would hope little in common with doesn't equal one's political view especially when it comes to family.

I'd have no problem stopping the car and telling them to shut up or walk. When I was my mom's only close contact at the nursing home I walked away for 2 weeks when she referred to the Transgender Surgeon who saved her life as Dr It. She was pleading with me to not get mad, you know how I am as I walked out the door. She was the one who needed the lesson on how I am, and she got it.

Wow, wow! You're a POS. I bet you loved how powerful your POS ass felt as your mom in the nursing home "pleaded" with you not to be upset. I bet your dad is real proud of you...

You taught her "a lesson". If I was your dad, I'd teach you a lesson or two, that's for sure.

If you are a MAGA and support Trump your values are likely very different from mine. If you are an evangelical I want nothing to do with you. If you think MTG and Lauren Boebert are good representatives of the Republican Party I think you and I will not get along.

So yes, little in common.

You probably have little in common with most.

That is completely your right, I just can't relate, and no jab here, but it feels extreme.

If I lived in Iowa, I suspect you would be correct.
Over 80% of my neighbors voted for Trump. This is the first time in my life where i feel that the country roads could not get me to the place I belong.
Right now they are loving the Trump honeymoon. I can't wait till they have to pay for the wedding and the divorce. It will be fun.

I don't talk to my sisters about Trump, but that's about as close as it gets. We still talk regularly, just not about Trump. And it's not like I'm a giant MAGAhead or something. I just don't fall for all the lies the media tells about him. When I try to explain that Trump didn't call white nationalists "fine people," and I suggest they watch the whole speech and not just what NBC shows them, they get pissed.
I have an aunt who is a MAGAhead and I kind of avoid talking to her about him too. She's just as ridiculous as my sisters, just in the other direction.
