Say what you will about wins and losses, but when it comes to putting in EFFORT in recruiting, Kirk Ferentz lags behind almost every other coach in the midwest. While lowly ISU coaches, who make a fraction of Ferentz's staff, and have nothing to sell to recruits other than hope and prayers, are out busting their A$$ses in California, Texas, and Florida begging, borrowing, and stealing to get athletes to at least visit Lames, Kirk and Brian are phoning it in and settling for kids from Cedar Rapids and Solon. Pretty sad, but the recruiting spending numbers from the Des Moines register don't lie.

If we want to compete with the big boys, we need to pull recruits from talent rich states like the rest of the Big 10 does.

Go look at the offer list and post a list of offers by state for Iowa.

All that effort and spending gets you last in the Big 12? May want to change things up a bit.

Moronic post , even for a troll. If you look at Kirk's entire career at Iowa , it is clear that he and his staff have worked very hard and have done a lot of great things. Where is your evidence that any body is phoning it in? Hayden Fry was one of the greatest coaches of his generation, but recruiting consistently at a high level to Iowa eluded him as well. Any program with a recruiting base as small as Iowa's is going to have some ups and downs in recruiting and on the field. Perhaps with your recruiting expertise, you could make a positive impact to the program. But remember, in the era of two platoon football, Kirk is the most successful coach Iowa has ever had. We are lucky to have him as our coach. Go Hawks!

But......he didn't take us to the Rose Bowl. So that cancels everything out. True story, or so I was told it was...............(now I'll just sit back and wait for one of the Ferentz haters to run with that in an attempt to shamelessly prove their point. *sinister chuckle*)

You do realize Iowa St is the only Power 5 conf school besides Colorado without a commit for 2016. Plus easy for Rhoads and his staff to go out for 2 months after the season when they aren't preparing for a bowl game. Good for ISU they spend more than everyone in the Big 12 besides OU and Texas Tech and they still suck.

According to the link, Illinois spends the most money on recruiting, and Wisconsin the least.

Troll on, idiot.

Seth Wallace has been a good addition IMO.

Under Ferentz Iowa has focused most resources in the Midwest, the northeastern seaboard, Missouri, Texas, and Florida occasionally. It appears that Iowa has selectively moved into more southern states and intensified efforts in the Maryland and Washington DC. area. That's where the strongest connections have been. That is fertile soil. Keep seeding that ground.

Making recruiting trips to California or other western states to "beg" athletes for a visit does not seem to be a particularly wise investment IMO and if ISU is employing that strategy that does not in any way mean that they are "out-recruiting" Iowa. To me, its somewhat an indication of desperation.

Maybe they're trying to trick their recruits into coming to play for Iowa State because they look like USC.....

They have a winning record vs Ferentz

Even though it is a joke how bad KF is against ISU. Would you rather be 7-9 against them with the seasons and bowl appearances Iowa has had last 16 years or 9-7 and have ISU's record. KF least has 2x as many bowl wins (6) in his tenor than ISU has in it's entire program history (3).

Some of our fans probably would take ISU's record if you held a gun to their heads just because they don't like Ferentz and need to be one up on ISU. It's sad really (and no there's nothing as, almost or more sad than that, bitter Iowa fans hoping to make a smart reply....)

Just sayin.

As another poster said...a lot of posters on here would tell you KF sucks and ISU is rolling. I am coming to realize that most of these football experts are under the age of 35 and only know what KF and Iowa football is. He took Iowa to heights they have never been. Yes, Iowa had some great years in the past, but with the focus on football now it isn't even close. ISU is not even in the same conversation as far as a program. Iowa needs to beat them for sure, but it doesn't take away from the full body of work that has been done in Iowa City.

Really? LOL! May God have mercy on your soul if you honestly believe that.

KF started 0-4 vs the clones since then is 7-5. not exactly earth shattering domination by the clones

You are 10years old then. If you don't appreciate it then you haven't experienced much college football
Actually I would say you are the young one that doesn't no sh*t about football. Those of us that have been around awhile know that Ferentz didn't do anything for the program besides let Norm Parker run the show. He needs to go on a terror to be considered an average coach.

Ferentz has been out hustled his entire coaching career, nothing new here!

What do you base this statement on? How on earth did he have a few teams finish in the top ten. That simply doesn't happen if you are lazy.

I think it fair to question what's happening on the field. Our recent offensive struggles are the result of a poor offensive strategy IMHO.
However I find it unconscionable to question KFs work ethic when you have no direct evidence to support a statement like that. The players that have ended up paying on Sundays are known for how hard they work. That isn't going to happen with a lazy coach who gets out hustled.

Some of you should be a ashamed of some of the statements you make. It is an embarrassment to our fanbase.

How do you know this? Please state facts.

I pretty sure I was there first starting in the late 60's and going forward. I have a pretty good handle on what Iowa football is. And I promise you I sh*t more football out this morning than you will ever know. Norm Parker run the show??? You do not know the type of person and coach Norm was then. Great football man and better person, but he was far from the "running the show" type of coach you wish. Hate KF all you want, but it doesn't change anything he and his staff has done.

the hatred for KF is so pathetic the stench can be smelled from coast to coast no matter which way the wind blows.

people on other boards consider them total morons, they are a complete joke on the other sites. and considered a embarrassment to Hawk fans.

Started 0-4? Why does that matter?
'99 1-10
'00 3-9
'01 7-5
'02 11-2

One of the best Hawk teams in history lost to Iowa State.

Start 0-4 or 4-0, Kirk still has losing record against the clones.

Middle of June and ISU has ZERO commits. Only power 5 school with out a recruit. Yep. Really being out hustled by ISU in recruiting......
