Ariens, the king of snow!

Damn straight. I've owned I think 10 Ariens now over the last 8 or so years, picked up basket case machines then fixed them up and sold them.

I currently have 4 now. I'll eventually sell 2 of them off. I inherited one from my dad in 2014 and did a nut and bolt restoration of it (I'll never sell it). The other 3, I picked up non-running for next to nothing and got them into perfect operating condition pretty easily (carb rebuilds, oil changes, lube/grease, and fine tune adjusting everything).

I own 3 of these pictured (the one I completely restored looks pretty similar) - a 1971 4hp and two 1973 5hp versions like the one below. All great for small to medium snows we almost always get in Iowa. All run perfect - 1 to 2 pulls, fire right up (even though I have electric starters on them all).

The 22,000 series machines are my favorite. Strong enough for most all Iowa storms, but light and maneuverable.

Then, The Monster. I have about $60 total in mine. This is a 1979 8hp big wheeled "twin stick". These regularly go for $250+ up north and pristine ones will go $500+.

It's not for the faint of heart. It is big and heavy (don't try to muscle it, it's too damn big) and serious overkill for your average Iowa storms.

I only decided to get this machine because it was so cheap. When I got it last spring I said to myself "we'll probably never get a storm big enough to where I'll actually need it". I decided to keep it through this winter just in case we got One Big Ass Storm where I actually needed it. Go figure that we'd actually get The Storm Of A Lifetime last Tuesday. It handled the wet and compacted 15" with ease, never bogged down or clogged once.

I think I'm going to keep it now ;)

Seriously, what is the rationale to keeping these trucks on the road? Unless you're carrying some emergency supplies, the liability exposure cannot make any sense. Especially with so many businesses shutting up and people hunkered down, does it really matter if that shit gets there by tomorrow? That and people trying to plow through frozen hell on earth in their compact sedans. Just doesn't make any sense to me.

I’ve been thinking about that too. It truly doesn’t make sense. They know what the forecast is. The blizzard warning has been issued since yesterday. There’s zero reason they should be driving at this point.

Wife made it home guys!! I just opened this bad boy:
I had my first edible at 4:30 pm and started the old fashioneds when the Iowa wrestling match started.

Feeling pretty good. Pretty, pretty pretttttttyyyyy good.

Here is my bunker Buddha in the snow:

#bless

That was great that our Heavyweight took down the Polar Bear. That Nebraska Dude had never lost a wrestling match and pinned his last 77 opponents haha

Nebraska football player - ya had to know he’d be a pussy compared to ANY Hawkeye.
Caitlin Clark would have pinned that bitch.

Never ever understood this myself.

Its one storm people. You're not on house arrest for the remainder of winter, or getting fired because the driving conditions were just too bad and treacherous for one business day.

FFS get these elephants on roller skates off the damn highways during an severe blizzard event. The companies directing or allowing these 20+ ton wrecking machines to slip and slide through this crap should face serious civil liability. It is negligent, if not downright reckless, in these conditions. Amazing that no one has died on the roads yet today. If I were governor or AG, I'd test the legality of shutting down highways completely to nonemergency traffic and pursuing civil suits against those who cause serious damage without a damn good reason to be out there. People and corporations are just too stupid or selfish to police themselves on this. Sorry this just really grinds my gears.

Looks like my area had some of highest Totals. Albia and Ottumwa 10.5, Centerville 9.5. Think maybe some higher totals on eastern border but not reported for Des Moines totals.

The boys are thirsty in Atlanta
And there's beer in Texarcana
And we'll bring it back no matter what it takes

Just an absolutely incredible week here in Iowa. I'm hoping to see if the NWS puts out a graphic with weekly totals some time today.

We actually got kind of lucky yesterday because the winds didn't get as high as they thought they would here in eastern Iowa. They've already dropped the blizzard warning.

Roads are still a disaster though. Stay home today, everybody! Nothing's going to be open anyway...

Well, the last few days have sucked. It’s absolutely beautiful outside right now.

The sun shining, clear skies and the snow covering the trees. It’s gonna be a great day for a winter hike.
