Here We Go Again - winter storms #2 and #3 Wed-Fri 1/10 thru 1/12

Chicago suburbs checking in. This is shaping up to be a big one for us. My forecast just keeps going up, up, up. Right now they are saying 14 inches. Yesterday it was 8. If it holds up it will be the biggest storm we’ve had since 2015 and might crack the top 10 all time storms.
And it's not just the snow. It is the wind. 40 to 50 mph winds will create whiteout conditions and quickly cover any roads that were just plowed...

IC is doing good work on the roads, but, they just plowed me in for the 3rd time. A front end loader just scraped the street clean, and deposited a ridge a foot and a half tall in my driveway.
Some of the street lights are blanketed in snow. You just kind of have to guess as to if you have a green light.
My gripe- City comes through on Monday night, no problem, they'll be out for 36 hours. They don't come back until Tuesday at 11 p.m. I get up Wednesday and have a 30' by 10' pile of ice boulders blocking my approach and mail boxes. We live in a cul-de-sac, the neighbors drive is blocked by a 7ft tall pile of ice. They don't know how to push snow in our neighborhood, but at least they didn't cover the fire hydrant like they have in years past. Neighbor called the city, they'll need at minimum a skid loader to move the pile, probably the front end loader.

This.

Man, I will never forget when I was running back to Iowa every weekend this time of year ten years ago when my dad was dying. One time, snow was in the forecast, but I didn't think about it because it was only going to be an inch or so. I was driving from Sioux City to Le Mars and it was windy as fugg and started snowing. I couldn't see past the hood of the car. Brought back LOTS of memories from growing up. I had that experience a few times over that two months. Definitely something I can live without.

Was there in '79 and we had 14" on the ground with half the storm yet to play out,.. fun times.

I recently got a 4-pack of the Climbing Kites beverage. Really enjoyed it.
I dig the Climbing Kites, I just hate how expensive it is. It’s like $24 for 4 5mg cans or something like that. With the Flora, it’s $40 for 125mg. Then I just mix it in with a Polar seltzer. It’s saved me a good chunk of change doing it that way. Plus you can decide how strong you want to make it.

Is that available in Iowa?

You can get a big tub of hemp-based gummies/caramels from a lot of places for about $150. They have 80 pieces in them, and have 10 mg of THC and 20 mg of CBD. So actually not that expensive when compared to alcohol which isn't rot gut. They last a long time and are the right dose for non-power users. The same places typically sell climbing kites, which are expensive but I get having a cool looking can in a social situation.

Yup, you can buy it at Happy's CBD in Cedar Falls. That's the only store that I know of that sells it though. It looks like you can order online. Not totally sure if they deliver to Iowa or not.

It is sold in Cedar Rapids too. I know it is at Local Craft.

So this is the widest spread 24 hours out ever seen, KCCI des moines has us at 3-6, WHO has us at 9, Ottumwa has us at 14+ , accu weather 4-8, National Weather service 5-10. What the hell how am I suppose to plan with that.

How do you find the liquid THC effects you relative to gummy/caramel THC? Faster being in liquid form?

The Flora is? I pulled up their store locator and the only option that pulled up in Eastern Iowa was the Happy's location. It could be wrong though.

I do know Local Craft has Climbing Kites and Wldwtr and some other THC products though.

I would plan on working from home regardless.

When I mix it with a seltzer and just sip on it, the effects are gradual. They take a little less time to kick in than if I were to take a edible. The liquid just has a really light lavender taste to it. It's pretty nice, so I've even just poured a shot glass full of it, and sipped on it straight. When I do that, it hits quicker and harder than if I mix it with something else.

I've found that if I put 2 shot glasses worth into a seltzer, it puts me into a beautiful spot within the hour. Usually feel the effects within about 30ish minutes but the full effects in about 60.

For me, edibles usually start around 45ish mins, then full effects within 90ish mins. The high is slightly different than edibles too, but not in a bad way. It's less of a body high, and more of a mental high for the Flora. At least for me.

I’m sorry, Climbing Kites.

Climbing kites is everyone in Cedar Rapids area, local craft, the little liquor store by my house in Marion has it, several bars including Big Groove carry it. You can get it to go there.

Yeah, at school we heard the afternoon NWS forecast update maybe would be coming out earlier than usual (probably because of school/IDOT factors etc). Also, the freezing rain angle is what's really concerning - looks like southern/SE Iowa may get a tad bit of a glaze along with their snow/wind.

Greaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat.

I wouldn't be surprised schools begin calling tomorrow this afternoon much like last Monday because it's not just the snow, it's the wind backing it. We may wind up getting half of Tuesday's totals, but that wind is going to blow it all over the place.

Not to make this political, but they'll be able to hold the caucuses in a phone booth Monday.

Mega liquor vape and tobacco. It's off hwy 13, used to be an elks lodge I believe.

Cheap booze also, a bottle of Segrams 7 is $25 there, it's $30 at Hy Vee or Wal-mart.

Edit to mention, they have gummies also.
Nice. Thanks! Do they take cash?

Blizzard warnings now posted for far NW Iowa, up in the Okoboji area. Guessing we'll see more of those pop up if this thing delivers as much snow and wind as they're calling for.

Probably been awhile, in February 2011 I opened my garage door to a drift taller then me. Took an hour to get the car out to get to work that morning. Back in the 90's we'd get heavy snow pretty often. It's less these days.

It's just part of living in Iowa. Make sure you have gas for the snow blower and plenty of snacks in the house and there's nothing to worry about.
A guy I used to work with, always told about the time, when he was a student at Michigan Tech, that they went to a movie and came out and couldn't find the car because of all the snow.
