Here We Go Again - winter storms #2 and #3 Wed-Fri 1/10 thru 1/12

I have the Caseys fuel truck coming at 8 in the morning to dump some fuel on my driveway. Then I'm going to find a neighbor that smokes. I'll light it, take a puff, and flick it. I'll become a Youtube sensation like all these teenagers.

I think that’s how they cook their breakfast pizza.
Win win for you!

They don’t plow you in on purpose dude. I admit I am a little defensive about this kind of thing. I don’t tell Torbee how to write. I don’t tell birch how to lawyer. I don’t tell greenway how to lawn care. I don’t tell McLovin how to 100 millie. The people out in this are busting their ass for the public. The more we work together the better things are. Have a good night sir.
They might. About half the city drivers are from Hills. I told 'em don't be shy about pushing all of Southlawn to the west. :)

So, long day in the ol' school bus. I didn't really get to look at the afternoon bummer except at a glance, and I noticed they hadn't update the coverage maps by the time I began my homeward trips.

Then, grocery shopping (madhouse busy), got home and ate dinner, and passed out in the chair until now.

Jebus frigging Christ on a bike...that coverage map is severely depressing. 15" Tuesday, 3" more last night, and now 8-12" possible tonight and tomorrow.

The weather gods are apparently VERY angry at Iowa this week.

Well channel 13 has said 7 inches at 6PM, 12 inches at 9PM and 8 inches at 10 PM. All will come down to any dry pockets and rate of snow. Just under an inch so far.

So likely somewhere between 8 & 10" here in Muscatine, going by this.

Dammit. Was hoping for quite a bit of "much hype, little substance" on this one.
Probably not a bad guess.

The NWS office is saying 8-12. (they take a look at all the models) Although the wording on the watch says the strongest stuff will be further north near highway 20. Not that there won't be a good sized swath of crap. That said, maybe you'll lucky and it'll setup a little further north than they thought and you'll be closer to the edge.

Thanks. Alas I live just about where the 18 is on that map 😰. This is shaping up to be one of the biggest storms this century for my area.
I don't know how to interpret some of the lake area output. Not sure if that affects things. Models may be overdoing it.

Wording from NWS is:

WHAT...Heavy snow, strong winds, and dangerous travel
conditions expected. Total snow accumulations in excess of 8
inches and wind gusts up to 45 mph expected.

* WHERE...Winnebago, Boone, McHenry, Ogle, Lee, DeKalb, Kane,
and DuPage counties.

* WHEN...From 3 AM Friday to noon CST Saturday.

Channel 8 is saying around 6 inches for quad cities. So I'll assume 4 to 5 inches. And with rain on top, how is that gonna blow in the wind?
I doubt this storm lives up to the hype

the moisture is there, right now for the southern counties it is going to be the wintry mix/ice/rain line before hitting the backside of the storm with the cooler temps.

Well at this point planning not to go into work. Can’t see out to the mailbox, at least 1 inch an hour snow rate and with the wind brutal. The heaviest models had us at 3 inches by 1 AM which I thought was too high. We may be at 4 at this rate.

The channel 9 radar I am looking at right now is showing this breaking up as it hits Iowa.

Am I looking at this wrong?

still looking at central iowa reports that are say 7-12inch reports

Just fire up Netflix tomorrow and make a crock pot full of chilli. Nobody should be on the roads. Roads will get clean quicker without people on them

Looks like 5-6 inches already on our deck railing. (West Des Moines)
