Hockey/NHL guys: Four Nations Face-Off

As the 4 nations tourney was going on I did find myself wondering, as an avs fan, if the stars of these teams would be exhausted coming back from the break. Well, the avalanche have not been good losing to one of the worst teams in the nhl last night and being severely outplayed by the blues tonight.

I’m not complaining as the tournament was awesome and the avs will be fine, just saying that I think this will be something that is discussed moving forward..

actually, if memory serves, it was 45 years ago Saturday afternoon.

The Soviets would not move the game to us prime time, so it was broadcast on tape delay. i was actually at a high school basketball game that evening, but of course, watched the replay. I remember teh buzz circulating in the crowd as rumors started to come out from the evening tv broadcast. In retrospect, it was remarkable how well the information embargos worked at the time.

the oilers absolutely looked like shit after the first period against the caps yesterday.

But I did like the 'professional courtesy' extended to ovi when the Oilers coach went six on five down three goals so he could get his hattie. (You could actually hear an audible gasp from the crowd on the tv broadcast when he pulled the goalie at the stoppage in the caps zone).

The reason I especially liked it is that I'm currently holding four nosebleed tickets for Carolina at Caps on April 10. To tie Gretzky, he needs to average .57 GPG until then, and to break it he needs to average .61. His career average is .60, and his season to date average is .71. I bought them about two months ago after doing this math (from farther out, obviously), at the secondary market price of about $70 per ticket, which at the time was already 2x face. Last night, the cheapest secondary market seat was $170.
