Hodge Trophy

I agree that bitching about it on twitter is kind of a JV move however I think he probably has a pretty good argument. He had a higher bonus point percentage this year then Mason, he was also undefeated, won his third national championship and likely had just a tough of a schedule. 285 right now is very tough however one could argue that 174 had more than one former national champion in it while 285 did not. When Gable and Spencer split the Hodge in 2021 gable had almost 10% lower bonus % then Spencer and they still split.

Even ignoring the fan vote, overall vote was not even close so I guess he's got an argument with a lot of people

Christianity and Islam are fundamentally opposed, but believing in one of them doesn't require, or mean, that you 'hate' the other. There is plenty of room for nuance.

I can't believe that I just defended Aaron Brooks.... I hate the way it makes me feel.
I honestly don't think Brooks is smart enough to understand what he said. I think his intentions were pure but he did take a shot at billions of people as mentioned earlier. Hopefully the Iranians and Russians have short memories when he's over sea!

When humans vote for something it will always be F'D up. Take the human element out of it, unless some common sense is needed, and go by a formula or algorithm. Is Starocci had a better bonus % and just as quality of schedule he has a point no. Doesn't mean I like him or him posting that on twitter.

I'm no apologist for Brooks, but disagreeing or not believing in a specific religion isn't the same as "hating."
He didn't need to say the false prophet part, added nothing to his speech and is offensive to many. If a Muslim said the exact opposite, many Christians would feel differently. My view ain't changing so let's agree to disagree.

No - it was an immature douche bag comment and you should call him out for it.
When I was a kid I learned about the 1941 MVP award and how Ted Williams hit .406 or so and was passed over for it by Joe Dimaggio. He had a 56 games hitting streak and played on the Yankees. Supposedly Williams wasn't friendly to the press. and that affected the voting. That was 82 years ago.
Almost every year there's someone who doesn't agree with who wins an award like this. Personally, I don't care. Me typing a sentence doesn't change a thing. Paris deserved it, if Starocci won, I could see how he would deserve it.

No he didn't need to say that, and certainly not at that time or place. All I'm saying is you can disagree with someone and it doesn't mean you hate them. Just like if I say I disagree with someone's sexual preference, it doesn't mean I hate the person. Being able to amicably disagree is fundamental to free speech and a free society.

You're deflecting - Starocci made the comment. Who do you think he thought should have won? And Ted Williams was difficult to deal with.

Who cares? I don't worry about things like Hodge awards. I want to see a championship team and individual title winners. Things settled on the mat. I don't worry about things like Heisman, MVP, or Hodge awards.
Every year people don't agree with the winner of something, I don't worry about it. You had a bunch of National championship winners up for the award and Paris won, good for him. He did the best he could do and the voters thought he had the best year. I have nom problem with him winning or anyone else on the list.

Paris had 11 pins and the third highest bonus rate. Higher than Karter. Not sure where Karter fell in terms of bonus…. Is there. Question as to the quality of competition in heavy as compared to 174. It’s a factor that isn’t totally his fault but beating Labereola vs Kerk, Cass, AirForce. 10 wins over highly decorated AA’s. Come on. I’ll say they tend to ignore the sportsmanship part. So 14 votes. How many of those came from PSU??? Prob all 9 that I see or do you think Karl split his … not likely. So 9 prob from PSU alum and Karl

A quick google had his bonus % at 66.67 fwiw.

I like the Parris selection because he wrestled the most matches. I think it’s otherwise a toss-up and am glad to see competing the most won.

As for Starocci, ever see what he wrote when Dake announced he was coming to NLWC? Classic.

LOOK, Spencer Lee not being able to win his 4th was the end for the Hodge this year! After him, there was a substantial drop off in domination! Before anyone gets their panties in a wad- this is just the facts. The others are great wrestlers. Spencer Lee is one of the all time greats and it is a shame he was never at 100%!

His interview after he won finals. Went on passionate "glory to god" type speech but slipped in a line calling Muhammad a false prophet.

He understood exactly what he said. If you are a Christian, Mohammed was a false prophet. If you are Muslim, it is your duty to wage jihad on infidels (non-believers of Islam), if you are a true Christ believer, you are to tell others (non-believers, including Muslims) the truth as you know it. He wasn't "taking a shot", he was trying to tell them his truth. With so many versions of truth these days (religious, political, scientific, historical) he was just following his beliefs. If you don't have a belief system, you are "taking a shot" at him for his beliefs.

EDIT: I guess I should have read all the posts that happened while I took the dogs on a walk, but many of them just reiterate what I posted here. Anyway, what Brooks said wasn't hate, it was more like "enlightenment" for those of you who speak that jargon.
