How's Keegan Doing?

Kings get the win over Utah 121-117. Fox finished with 49. Keegan had 5 points and 6 rebounds in 39 mins.

With DeMar DeRozan, Malik Monk and Domantas Sabonis not available, it was an interesting starting 5 for the Kings last night (De'Aaron Fox; Kevin Huerter; Trey Lyles; Doug McDermott; Keegan Murray).

The Kings (8-6) are playing with fire, imo; they can't afford to lose to teams like Utah (3-9) at home on a Saturday night. The Kings trailed 94-90 heading to the 4th qtr & then, fortunately, outscored the Jazz 31-23 to finish off the game.

Nice to see the Kings shooting better from three (19-41 for 46%); they also shot 55% from two (23-42).

Injuries seem like epidemic level in NBA right now.
Pelicans might have ball boys out there some nite.

They put in the effort, especially in the 4th. Guys that usually don't see the floor much get the opportunities and they play hard. Isaac Jones and Mason Jones for example. The real bright spot in the game was getting to see Orlando Robinson for the first time. He looked good.
Have to give a shout out to Jordan McLaughlin who's been doing a great job as the backup point guard. Nice defense as well.

The Kings fell to the Hawks at home, 109-108. Keegan shot 1-3 (33%) from three and 2-6 (33%) from two pt range for 7 pts, 7 rebounds, 2 steals and an assist in 22 minutes. He also fouled out.

Once again DeMar DeRozan, Malik Monk and Domantas Sabonis were not available. The Kings had another interesting starting 5 of De'Aaron Fox, Kevin Huerter, Trey Lyles, Keegan Murray and Alex Len.

Keegan also had 4 turnovers and fouled out with almost 9 min left in the 4th, and finished at -20 for the game, the lowest for any player on both teams. Congrats to Keon Ellis who had 33 points and 6 rebounds!

DeMar DeRozan and Domantas Sabonis, who both have now missed the past 2 games because of lower back tightness, have been cleared to resume individual on-court work. They will be considered day to day.

Malik Monk, who has now missed the past 5 games because of a moderate right ankle sprain, has been cleared for individual on-court workouts and will be reevaluated again in the coming days, the team announced today. Monk suffered the injury in the 2nd quarter of the Kings' game against the Phoenix Suns on Nov 10.

The Kings (8-7) are looking like a play in team again this year.
They have to put themselves in a position to do that first. ;) The good news is that there are 67 games left. When was the last time Keegan fouled out of a game? IMO, Mike Brown should give Keegan a break from guarding the opponent's best player most of the time, and let him guard players at his position for awhile, and see whether his outside shooting comes back around. If he has to chase guards a lot of the time, it's no wonder his offensive numbers are down. In his last 5 games, he has only one game where his 3 PT% is above 33%. And, I will say that the game was horribly officiated as well.

Former Iowa Hawkeyes Star Mired in Miserable Slump

But now in his third NBA season, Murray has yet to deliver on those expectations.

The 24-year-old is having a miserable 2024-25 campaign and is registering just 12.8 points per game on 43.0/29.9/85.7 shooting splits.

Murray has posted single-digit scoring efforts in four of his last seven games, and over his last two contests, he has totaled a combined 12 points.

This is a major step back for Murray, who recorded 15.2 points per game a year ago and logged 12.2 points on a solid true-shooting percentage of 59.7 percent during his rookie season.

But this year, Murray's efficiency has plummeted, and he is becoming more and more of an afterthought in the Kings' offense.

It may be time to start worrying about Keegan Murray

>> LINK <<

15 games into Year 3, and not only is the shooting not getting better, it's getting worse. On the season, Murray is hitting 29.9% of his triples. On top of that, his 3-point volume has gone down significantly as well. Murray is now in the 51st percentile in 3-point attempts per 75 possessions after finishing in the 85th and 79th percentile in his rookie and sophomore seasons, respectively.

It is worth noting that we are still very early in the year, and there is plenty of time for Murray to turn things around. But if it does't happen, that changes everything for Murray and the Sacramento Kings.

No bueno 😦

As a fan, it drives me nuts that he's been struggling from 3 this year. He has however improved his defensive skills, often playing high minutes, while guarding the other team's best player. As for a practical sense, given what he is tasked with, meaning: defense, improved rebounding, and not just being a catch and shoot player as he was in his first year, he's improving overall. His perimeter shot will come around eventually, as the game will continue to slow down for him. Just his minutes per game alone, shows that he is not getting the rest during games that he needs. Mike Brown has been trying to manage not only Keegan's minutes, but the other starters as well. Slumps happen to all players. Mike Brown has thrown all but the kitchen sink at Keegan, in the form of challenging him to become better, all around. In his last five games, he's only averaging 9.5 attempts per game. That to me is concerning. He's been for some unknown reason, passing up good perimeter looks, electing to make the pass. Could be a confidence thing? I don't know for sure. If there is one area I'd like to see him improve upon, it would be getting more shots up. Should Brown draw plays up for him, or does Keegan need to be more aggressive by asking for the ball more, and getting to spots more often? I believe, and it frustrates me as well, that we'll just have to wait and see what happens. But for some writers and fans, pushing the panic button, after just a 15 game sample, even bringing up trading him, is an overreaction IMO. We neither get to see what happens in practice, nor do we know for sure what the coaching staff is saying to him and asking him to do, but, at some point, his perimeter shooting should improve as the season wears on. 67 games left.

Kings lose at home to Brooklyn 108-103. Keegan with 21/8/2. Nets bench scored 44 points to the Kings' 9.

The Kings are 8-9 overall; they are 4-5 at home and 4-4 on the road. It's early but right now they are the #12 team in the West (they are just 2 games out of the #6 seed).

The Kings scored ONE MORE FG than then Nets.

However, the Kings are getting killed by 3 point shooting.

Brooklyn shot 49% (19-39) from three and 48% (36-75) overall.

The Kings shot 36% (9-25) from three and 48% (37-77) overall.

Breaking down the Kings' 5 point Loss:

-30 pts from 3 pointers made (Kings made 9; the Nets made 19)

+22 pts from 2 pointers made (Kings made 28; the Nets made 17)

+3 pts from FTs made (Kings made 20; the Nets made 17)

They have serious roster problems, especially with the bench. Monte needs to get that sorted out.

They really need to get and stay healthy.
Agree, but to the extent that the bench talent is not there outside of Monk. Len has been healthy, but he is limited in his capability to back up Sabonis. Keon Ellis, who should be starting instead of Huerter, is to this point more effective and athletic and a good defensive player (Albeit, he fouls a lot). Jordan McLaughlin has been playing well as a backup point guard, but at 6'0, he lacks size. I'm actually a fan of him. Orlando Robinson needs more PT, but Mike has been going to Len for the most part. They're waiting to see what Devin Carter will do once he's cleared by the medical staff. Once Monk gets back, the entire roster with the exception of Carter, will be healthy. So far this season the bench production has been abysmal.

Kings down big in the 4th. Subs in. Keegan had 14/10/2/2 and 1 block.

The Kings lost again at home, this time by 21 points (130-109). In 38 minutes, Keegan was just 2-8 (25%) from three and 4-7 (57%) from two for his 14 points.

The Kings are 8-10 overall; they are 4-6 at home and 4-4 on the road.

The Kings got killed again by their poor 3 point shooting and their lack of defense.

OKC shot 45% (14-31) from three and 56% (48-86) overall.

The Kings shot 25% (8-32) from three and 48% (42-87) overall.

Breaking down the Kings' 21 point Loss:

-18 pts from 3 pointers made (Kings made 8; OKC made 14)

+0 pts from 2 pointers made (Kings made 34; OKC made 34)

-3 pts from FTs made (Kings made 17; OKC made 20)

The Kings are in the process of a deal to get Jae Crowder from Milwaukee. No details yet on who is involved for the Kings. Crowder is a veteran small forward of 13 years.

The Kings (8-10) are at Minnesota (8-9) tonight.

7:00 pm CT tip, NBA League Pass.

Minnesota is 2-0 vs the Kings so far this season.

Both teams are in need of a win.

Kings beat the T=Wolves. Wolves were on the second night of a back-to-back. Keegan had 8/4. His 3 pt shot does not exist at this point. 0-4. Was 4-11 from the field.

The Kings (9-10) won at Minnesota (8-10) last night, 115-104.

The Kings trailed by 5 after 3 quarters but a 34-18 fourth qtr sealed the win.

The Kings, however, still only shot 32% from three (12-37).

Keegan's stats:

39 minutes (of 48 possible)

0-4 (0%) from 3
4-7 (57%) from 2
.........................................................
4-11 (36%) Overall Shooting

0-0 (0%) FTs

Murray is getting to the charity stripe just 1.6 times per game, which is identical to last season. As a matter of fact, he has gone without a free-throw attempt in six of his last eight contests.

That is entirely unacceptable for as gifted of an offensive player as Murray, especially considering he attempted 5.4 foul shots per game during his final season at Iowa.

Jae Crowder did pretty well in his debut. He and Randle chirped a lot at each other, especially late lol.
