HWC $146,785 Raised! Goal- 100K

I'm a middle aged diehard IA wrestling fan who up until 2 years ago, out of complete disgust, had never sought out a forum like this. I had to do something to "medicate" the anger and disappointment I felt after another subpar finals performance! I've been checking in ever since but didn't become a member until this drive started and I saw what was happening. I made my first of many contributions last week. It felt amazing!
I was just thinking of how much money could be pulled in if the rest of hawkeye wrestling nation knew this was happening! Would it be possible to publicize this effort somehow? I can't imagine the damage that could be done if all the other marginally tech savvy old guys and gals like myself knew what was happening here! Thanks to everyone on here who steers the ship! Let's get our boys back on top! GO HAWKS!!
Now, THIS is what I'm talking about. Imagine the thousands of diehard Iowa wrestling fans who aren't even yet aware of the movement afoot right now. Many of them will learn about it at the HWC banquet, I suspect, but we do need to get the word out more widely. Not a bad idea for those of us on Facebook and Twitter to start posting and tweeting that big things are happening around Iowa wrestling.

I'm sure more people will get word about current efforts when the U of I goes public with more concrete plans for a new facility, etc., but it certainly can't hurt for those of us on this board to do some publicity work, ourselves, to get more Hawk fans engaged in efforts to ramp up support the HWC and make it the premier RTC in the nation.

This post from Hawk170 highlights the fact that we've only seen the very tip of the iceberg where financial support from Hawkeye Nation is concerned. I'm sure there are plenty of Hawk wrestling fans out there with substantial financial resources who would love to pitch in significantly. And that's still the tip of the iceberg, folks! Hold on tight -- gonna be a f*** ride!

Good suggestion 170. Does anyone have a connection to the sports writers at the Register, CR Gazette, Waterloo Courier, etc? Plus the various TV stations in the state? Guess we could always go the Twitter route to reach most of them. Would be great to get some press about the grassroots efforts happening and try to reach the fans that aren't on HR or social media. Everyone loves a feel good story. And this movement feels VERY good to me.

Funny, I had that same conversation with @Tom Kakert late last week. of course, most of that could come from the efforts of HWC personnel. I'd like to see the other site (@Rob Howe) get involved as well. Everything helps. Now, with this monthly donation active, @HoundedHawk will take care of most of the annual donation himself. Right Hounded?

Lots of good ideas and information has come out of this conversation. If only about half are implemented, HWC will be viable for a long, long time.

I'm still interested to know just what percentage of the $75K that was raised in this event is in regard to the average fund raising efforts annually. @Novakht?

Mike

Shout out to WDM, HawkFt etc for the stellar work going on. I will be jumping on board with the Eastern Iowa guys but right now can only serve one master and she's 5'2 1/2 and mean ;) Still, add me to the Des Moines area list as well so I can come over and visit my Dad and maybe do a function.

Ok............so here's the deal.

We got a little over $75,000 with 45,000 "views".

The "views" are catching up with the dollars.

Can't have that!

Do I need Pinters to "translate" for you all?

Ok-- Auto Pay is now live. This is a direct result of input from this forum, and LONG overdue! Thank you for all advice, suggestions, comments, donations and even faults you point out.

www.hwcdonor.com

We wanted something that is secure, easy to cancel (hoping you dont :) if you need to.

What we want in the near future-- some goals that are more transparent, and better communication.

Please feel free to share the heck out of that link-- will also be up on our website soon.

THANKS to YOU !

Are we able to specify what day of the month the deduction occurs?

Right now..First payment is on day you make the donation, the recurring monthly payments going forward on 24th of month.

On the not to distant future..You will be able to specify day.

Thanks

Keith Murphy and Andy Fales have an afternoon radio show from 2-4. One of them made the comment that it's the time of year when they have to basically invent topics to talk about. Get Terry Brands on there to really publicize the HRC! A quick 10 minute spot once a month would be awesome. Those of us on here would prefer an hour long spot but it's a start!

Mike can you email me please? randy@novakheating.com

I can say that the 75K is significant--it helps for sure. Some of the other clubs are spending 1mm-1.5mm per year. We are way behind that figure-- Unfortunately we are raising roughly 35% of that total.

To attract top level HWC coaches, top level HWC athletes -- we need to come up with a plan to get to that 1-1.5mm. per year. Yes its a lot-- but we have a lot of fans!

Exactly, Randy.

The Iowa wrestling fan base is largely an untapped resource. Traditionally, we've turned out in huge numbers, won the attendance count by a large margin, and supported the Hawks at meets and tournaments unlike any other fan base. . . but the focus has been mainly on cheering them on.

The needs of the Iowa program and the HWC are now becoming more apparent to Hawk fans, and where there's a need, we fill it. Hence, the massive influx of donations to the HWC over just the last couple of weeks.

The awesome news is that these donations are still coming from a very small segment of Iowa wrestling fans. Imagine the amount in monthly donations to the HWC once most of the massive Iowa wrestling community is making them! It's going to be a flood of donations that will absolutely dwarf what the HWC has seen in the past, and it will allow for great things, not the least of which will be to free up the staff and athletes from having to hold fundraisers throughout the year. Well, the Plunge is just so much f*** that it will probably need to continue, but these events will become more of a celebration than a crucial means of sustaining the HWC.

The more we all spread the word and make other fans aware of the monthly donation option, the quicker we'll get this tidal wave of donations coming in. Plus, we need to remember to support the new facility once the official "call to arms" comes out for that. These two efforts will help to transform how the Iowa wrestling program and the HWC are able to operate. And the titles, both domestic and international, will follow.

Randy....I see you guys categorize your business thru your CC merchant as "Country Club Membership & Private Golf Course" Anyway to change that to "Charitable and Social Service Organization" thru your merchant? I know some credit cards give bonus points for charitable contributions BUT it has to be classified correctly with the HWC CC merchant. I know of a CC that gives triple pts for charitable contributions which is equivalent of getting 6% back in travel rewards or 3% back in cashback. Heck bnicolls would have gotten $3000 worth of travel back on his 50K!

Something to consider perhaps. GG how does WFL categorize their merchant charges? Maybe something for you to consider as well. Nice to get some good perks back from donating if possible. 6% back on CC spending is very hard to beat and who doesn't like to travel. Could cover your flight to nationals! Maybe you can contact US Bank and get paid for ppl signing up for that CC thru a link on your website as well.

If Randy/GG can change this then I would recommend getting the US Bank Flexperks Travel Visa card for their triple pts on charitable contributions.

I think you just found the slogan/catch phrase for the Hawkeye Wrestling Best Facilities in the World fundraising campaign! Well done.
