HWC $146,785 Raised! Goal- 100K

Can we get a booth at Night of Conflict with multiple computers where we can get fans to sign up for a monthly donation of $25 to the HWC and you receive a FREE ice cream cone. Wish we could setup a booth at meets and do the same thing. We could get to 5,000 monthly donors easily.

Let's get a booth at NOC, farmer's markets, the Iowa State Fair, and at Iowa football games.

It was whejoe back on page 1 who suggested the recurring payments idea. Better listen to him............good ideas.

There's an old, proven tactic in direct mail fundraising called "member-get-a-member". I'm guessing that almost everyone on here has a friend who is a Hawkeye wrestling fan that doesn't frequent this board and/or other social media. Send him/her an email and tell our story including the HWC donation links. Include your personal reasons and, perhaps, offer an incentive - like an adult beverage at your mutually favorite emporium, or lunch - whatever.

Randy, ideally we would be able to have a promo code and mark this effort as HRMGM.

BTW - I've sent some of these emails tonight.

Dueling Donors: Iowans Giving Big For New Facilities

Apr 14, 2017

Sorry...I know I'm not in on this Iowa uprising, but I saw this and thought I'd share. The push you guys have made is pretty impressive!

They forgot to mention the role HR had in this and IIRC, the original debate was about bringing in big names and the giving was a direct response to ISU hiring Metcalf. The staff changed the focus to facilities. Anonymous message board Hawk fans spontaneously starting a funds drive that raised $10,000 in a day doesn't make for a good story...amiright? Especially in a money starved sport. No human interest angle there. Maybe because we're a dumpster fire IAW Flo? Anyways, it was "Nomad's intrepid reporting" or Tan Tom's tweet about facilites that got the ball rolling...which happened after the April 5th Pinters "Match Me" post where we all started jumping in with the HWC taking notice and getting in here to communicate and work with us.

I guess we (and the other forums) are only useful if we can provide cherry-picked fodder for them to knock down on the show.

Ladies/Gents-- just a minor update here. We got an received an email to sign up for Benevity--- I'm really not familiar with it but it is a Workplace Giving type platform. One ( or more) of you might have an employer match that uses this.

At any rate signing up on our end is no "piece of cake" -- I wont get into all of it but several items have to be sent to prove you are a non profit etc. .. Its all good--

Moriah jumped on this , we are now approved and in their system ! Thanks for asking us to do it! We are trying-- cant comply with every request-- I had one last year and again this yr about getting registered for military withdrawals so to speak -- the paperwork was really complicated and we passed.

This one is done--credit goes to Moriah-- and this forum for providing the idea .

Thanks Randy...that one is from my work. I had to get the ball rolling for them to reach out to you. I will be expecting an email from them saying you're approved.

One thing about it though, in the fine print, is that they take 2.9 percent from your donations to manage it if you go through a payroll deduction:

Because Benevity directly processes payroll donations, there is no merchant account fee like when you make a payment by credit card or PayPal. This means the most money goes to charities when you donate by payroll.

However, if you wish to make a donation by credit card or PayPal, the fees are:
• Credit cards: up to 2.4% + $.30 (fee varies based on your credit card provider)
• PayPal: 1.9% + $.30

All donations are subject to the 2.9% charity support fee. This covers the cost of issuing tax receipts and the distribution of funds.

I plan on making a donation directly to HWC and then requesting a match and see how that route goes.

Funny, I had that same conversation with @Tom Kakert late last week. of course, most of that could come from the efforts of HWC personnel. I'd like to see the other site (@Rob Howe) get involved as well. Everything helps. Now, with this monthly donation active, @HoundedHawk will take care of most of the annual donation himself. Right Hounded?

Lots of good ideas and information has come out of this conversation. If only about half are implemented, HWC will be viable for a long, long time.

I'm still interested to know just what percentage of the $75K that was raised in this event is in regard to the average fund raising efforts annually. @Novakht?

Mike
Actually, I think I've done better than that. I signed up for HWC donation from AmazonSmile. As much as Mrs. Hounded spends they'll soon be able to afford a private jet.

How about some donations for Wrestling For Life to buy a table for the HWC Banquet so Jim can send some kids and/or donors to it. Win for both Clubs!

I will start this off with a $250 Donation to Wrestling for Life!

Check in mail tomorrow-- Thanks for you do Jim Brown!

Ok I'll match your $250. Check in the mail tomorrow Jim.

That makes $500 towards the GG Table. How much does a table cost so next man in can finish this off?

Thanks a bunch Kwood. Tables of 10 are $650 and Wrestling for Life will supply the additional $150 for this first table. Our plan is to invite local middle school coaches and ask them to bring one of their student/athletes. Can we get a second table of 10 from our friends here at HR?

We both know I have your address somewhere in my office....

but it might speed things along a bit if you could gently and kindly post it here for me. :)

My wife is an Amazon nut! Prime, the whole nine yards. If we sign up for smile, does it affect the prime membership thing?

Obviously, I let her do all the shopping...............unless its fishing stuff, then Bass Pro, Tackle Warehouse or Berkley usually get my money.

This thread becomes more and more depressing to me each time I visit. Please stop with the donations before I Aaron Hernandez myself. Enough is enough. If you don't watch out, you'll be making a difference and that is unacceptable to the other fan bases.

Seriously though, very impressive that in a couple weeks, HR has essentially raised $1,083,000 toward the program. Even our slush fund is blushing. I count the $1M because I believe the impetus for that donation began here. Or was it Flo, lol.

My hat is tipped to all of you!

Tom

Mike.. it does not effect Prime membership at all..And prices are the same. The only "hitch" is you have to bookmark or remember to go to the Amazon smile site.

I use chrome and they have an extension.. Always Smile.. so automatically it opens the smile site when I go to Amazon.

Man, this is f***!

My fellow Hawk fans, it's my distinct pleasure to announce that Mr. Nicolls has been MATCHED!

Yes, my friends, another $1 million has been pledged for the greatest wrestling facility in the world!

Let's keep this thing rolling, Hawk fans!!!

EDIT: Just to clarify, as much as I wish I had $1 million to pledge, this one isn't coming from me. It's coming from an amazing Hawk fan who prefers to remain anonymous.

I'm just imagining the scene from the Terry Documentary where Terry pins somebody and he just goes 'BOOM' right in his face when hes laying on his back, exhausted.
