OK, Hawk fans. Money where your mouth is. And hats off to those who have already jumped in with this "tournament challenge"!

New rule (just for f***, of course): For every HWC competition, $1, $5 or $10 per fan, per win by a HWC athlete. If things are tight, $1 per win is great and still adds up. If things aren't so tight, $5 per win is outstanding. If you're really feeling like having some f***, $10 per win. And if you just want to show off, $25 per win and you win the internet for the day. Deal?

Man, this really is getting f***. Far more f*** than anyone associated with Iowa wrestling should be allowed to have.
Yea my mouth might have been bigger than my wallet. I did the $10 per this time around but not sure I can afford to keep that up. You know saving for a wedding and down payment on first house and stuff. But I love me some Hawkeyes. Also got my new HWC decal on my truck today and it looks pretty good.

Beautiful, Undercover!

And it's really not about giving massive amounts. It's all about the MANY loyal Iowa wrestling fans across the state and around the country pitching in a little bit at a time on a recurring basis. Even in small amounts, it all adds up in a BIG way. The key is to mobilize this uniquely massive and passionate fan base of ours which isn't remotely close to being matched by any other program. Once we get that ball rolling, we'll be unstoppable, and it will all pay off for the Iowa wrestling and the HWC.

Just imagine if a few thousand of us each pitched in $1 per win by a HWC athlete for each tournament. Take today for example. Just for mathematical simplicity, let's take 15 wins for the HWC. That's $15 per fan, and just for simplicity, let's say $3,000 fans participate. BOOM! One tournament, $45,000 raised. And that's just for f***, not even including the flood of monthly donations coming in from individual Hawk fans. And that's not even to mention corporate sponsors, of which the HWC has quite a few already. . . but that list could be a whole lot longer.

FT, you're a wild man! Thumbs up, bro!

I think there's a $100,000 milestone in our near future, folks. Gotta get there before May 19.

Dont worry you will have teenagers someday and you will remember back when you were just getting started and had extra money.:):eek:o_O I will say they are worth every penny though.:D

16 wins and they'll be a couple prior Jr World team members added at trials I'm sure.

Plus we haven't even talked about McD, Clark, and the reigning Olympic team member (is he done? he's still listed as a sponsored athlete).

Better save those pennies for trials.

Great work guys, we are close!

On the facility, staff is pushing hard. The Athletic Department is supportive, AND there is a normal process and approvals to obtain above that level EVEN if the project is 100% privately funded. So, we need to let that play out while gaining more interest and support. It is there. It will happen. I met with the architect of many University projects and Athletic projects on Friday. Tom will share his vision to him and we'll have something to look at in a month or so. As you know, Tom is not patient and nor am I, but boxes do need to be checked. There are no roadblocks, but a lot of open road to cover.

Last Thursday I supported an event in IC with a number of my investors (the Iowa Mafia....a joke...all great guys) where Coach Brands discussed his vision. He was supported by Coach Gable and Doyle, and Tim Dwight. Though not a wrestler, I discussed why it is important to me. Then I gave the analogy to my best friend since 2nd grade, the OU mens gymnastics coach. Go to sooner sports and check out his record....Mark Williams. He and Coach Brands are very much alike. However, Mark has one thing that Tom does not.....the best gymnastics training facility in the country. Mark does not have to apologize to recruits for anything.....except of course being in Norman. See any parallels??

BTW, Spencer's Dad, Larry Lee was at the event. What a nice man and family. He had great stories to tell of Iowa's recruiting and support of Spencer. We have the right coaches. I'll let Larry share those stories as he sees fit.

I've spoken to the other million dollar donor who too is a great guy and Hawk fan. Believe for now he want to remain anonymous, so I'll leave that alone.

You guys are great. This is the best thread ever. Every dollar counts for HWC and every person who is behind this project is so very valuable. We as Hawk fans ARE behind our coaches and wrestlers, and showing it every day. It's a honor and exhilarating to be part of this.

edit: Forgot to mention Lewboo was there and later regaled some of us with his priceless stories.

Go Hawks.

Bob--

Sorry I could not be there Thurs--was traveling and got in late-- I sincerely appreciate your generosity and leadership in this effort--look forward to meeting you.

But also of this group-- I notice the $10 donations and $50, $100, and up-- matter of fact Coach Brands gets an email everytime someone donates online or chooses the monthly option. Many of you have done it multiple times... I just received a call from coach yesterday about a "repeat" donor--- So he watching the Vegas wrestling online and calls to mention a nice donation. We appreciate it!

Big or small it makes a difference --this club needs 1mm-1.5mm annually to do what the staff feels can make a difference--- in the club, and for the benefit of the collegiate guys in the room AND for recruiting.

This forum has exceeded my expectations by far-- and it makes me feel that there are thousands of fans out there that would help if only they knew--fans that dont read this forum/thread-- Thats our challenge--

I will have more updates in the near future--I do see the input/recommendations/ criticism-- and still welcome it. We cant do every idea but already we have implemented several things because of this very thread --and more to come.

Thanks so much for the continued support-- GO HAWKS

Lastly--if you are able to attend the banquet-- please introduce yourself I will buy you a beer or soda!

Randy: Thanks for the update. In the $1M-1.5M annual number is there an amount in there for a full time coach or leader of the club? There has been much talk about how the club needs to be someone's full time job.

Spooner-- The short answer is YES. We have not been in a position to consider this option in the past. The goal would be a coach(s), more elite athletes.

Yet another reason to attend the HWC banquet! Let's pack the place, and stick it to Randy in the process!;)

Trying to think of how to get this from the Hawkeye Report to the general public...

What rules or other obstacles are there as far as promoting the club or fundraising at Iowa home meets, or others events? (State championships, World Cup, etc)

If 10k people at a dual meet that aren't message board members were aware of fundraising efforts for a new facility, how to use Amazon Smile, it would be a lot of help...

Could the HWC buy ad space during a home football game at Kinnick or during a home wrestling dual? Maybe we could have Gable or one of the Brands brothers share the message about Amazon Smile/how to support the HWC.

Edit: Also, Facebook Ads could be something to think about as well. It's fairly easy to target people who "like" something related to Iowa wrestling or athletics in general.

As of right now we are not allowed to promote at any University event in any way/shape/form.

We could "possibly" buy ad space at a Football game but would have to pay market rates( those ads are EXPENSIVE) -- and hope that we would get a return --- We have to be very prudent with our "marketing" funds right now as we desperately need our cash to fund our 11/12 guys and gal right now.

No doubt, this will be one of our primary objectives. There will be a lot of brainstorming along these lines.

Could you (wrestlers, volunteers) walk around Kinnick, off of university property, before football games with fliers and collecting donations?

I personally like ALL of these ideas from boots on the ground at games, hosting tailgaters and divide and conquer at tailgaters with HWC athletes to connect with people/video board messages. Definite need to capture the masses at these events. Great stuff!

There are also ways to begin hyper targeting people/fans through social media- I suspect a couple of our alums would be VERY adept at this :). Politicians and companies/entertainers are able to create this insane grass roots campaign/efforts with these. So I think there are some creative and EFFECTIVE grass roots ideas along with the major fund raising efforts that are coming to the table. Will just need to prioritize and execute consistently over time.

In saying all this, will follow our leaders like Randy, TnT and others to ensure all is above board. Imagine a "HWC Day" at one football game and one wrestling meet.......and ongoing social media efforts.

You, sir, rock. And the message is getting directly to the staff, with literally every donation. Maybe a little extra motivation to donate. . . . Literally, every time you donate, your name and donation go directly to the staff. And I mean it's basically instantaneous.

Absolutely no doubt the guys all know exactly what's going on here. Imagine if you knew there were a whole bunch of fans who cared enough to make a donation to the HWC for every win you recorded, just to support you as you chase your dreams. That's not only extremely cool -- it's what the Iowa wrestling family is all about.

Randy, on behalf of USA Hawk fans, please send him our sincere thanks! And, of course, TokyoHawkeye's contribution pushes us that much closer to the goal of $100,000 by May 19.

Gonna have to look at some travel arrangements for 2020. . . .
