If a Republican Is Going to Take the White House in 2025, Who Would You Want (or Hate) It to Be?

Unless I missed a name, the linked WaPo article identifies these 15 GOP hopefuls.

Donald Trump
Ron DeSantis
Mike Pence
Tim Scott
Rick Scott
Greg Abbott
Chris Christie
Mike Pompeo
Asa Hutchinson
Ted Cruz
Nikki Halley
Larry Hogan
Chris Sununu
Kristi Noem
Glenn Youngkin

Thirteen guys - all but 1 white - and 2 women.

Questions for those who would prefer a Republican in the White House: Who are your favorites, and who might you strongly oppose?

Questions for those who would prefer a Democrat in the White House: Who would be most acceptable, and are there any you might crossover in the primary to support (assuming Biden runs unopposed)?

As a lefty, almost half of those are totally unacceptable. I would rule out these, without hesitation:

Donald Trump
Ron DeSantis
Mike Pence
Greg Abbott
Mike Pompeo
Ted Cruz

I might cross over to support Larry Hogan. He wasn't awful as MD governor.

And while I doubt I could like the rest, I'll give them a chance to earn my trust.

You’re better than me. I don’t forgive them for the last decade. It will be 20 years before I could even think about voting for them. I want true democratic control to push liberal ideas before I would vote for more socialism for the wealthy. Republicans want to keep the status quo where Americans get price gouged on the reg.

Is there one among them who disavowed Trump in 2015 and never changed course? Is there one among them that called for his impeachment and never wavered? Is there one among them who has publicly stated the Trump belongs in jail for his actions on 1/6. Show me that Republican and that would be the starting point.

The state of Florida just confirmed that Ron’s leadership is very much appreciated.

Get ready to enjoy 8 very prosperous years in 2025
Lol…Florida voted for Trump twice and supported him by a larger margin in 2020 than 2016 - the ONLY battleground state to do so. They’re fuggin’ idiots. Or are you a Trumpkin, now?

Yes, Liz Cheney and you wouldn't vote for her anyway.

DeSantis all day. In the words of @BnG Trump can go kick rocks twat waffle.

Hypothetically, what if she changed party's and ran for Prez as a D?
It has nothing to do with parties. Her positions on the issues are hard right. She still supports the invasion of Iraq as far as I know. She advocates for torture. She supported pulling the US out of the Iran deal and turned them loose to pursue nukes. She is a staunch supporter of Israeli expansion into Palestinian territory. She supported the birthers. She supports red states being able to ban abortions under any circumstances. She gets credit for standing up to Trump but she wouldn’t get past a primary as a Dem anywhere.

I asked this sincerely: what is the appeal of DeSantis, especially for Rs that are otherwise not in favor of Trump?

Being one of the few palatable Republicans doesn't make her a good candidate. She should be the last option.

Chaney as a candidate is like the 3 that sits at the end of the bar. She's only better than going home alone.

You're right Democrats need to elect a progressive for a change. Pretty sad that our country is forced to choose between a center-right and a far-right candidate every four years
Progressives got their asses handed to them in the mid-term primaries. Their message doesn't vibe with most Americans either.

I thought Mike Pompeo did well while he was on the World Stage.

I would say he is my current favorite followed at a slight distance by Kristi Noem and Nikki Haley.

No to Chris Christie and Ted Cruz. Pence is likely unelectable.

Otherwise, any of those ex-governors would be acceptable.
