Top 5 toughest 2017 schedules in college football, per Sagarin, with season record.

1. Maryland (4-8)
2. Florida State (5-6)
3. Notre Dame (9-3)
4. Iowa (7-5)
5. Syracuse (4-8)

4 of our Losses (CFP Rankings last week):

@ #5 Wisconsin
#10 Penn State at home
@ #16 Mich State
@ #22 Northwestern

Wins vs Ranked teams (CFP Rankings last week):

#9 Ohio State (at home)

Yes we should give the staff a lot of credit......team started with a first year starting QB, new oline coach, new OC, new receivers coach, lost BOTH experienced offensive tackles, lost starting safeties, new punter, etc. etc. etc......and if people would have been told before the year started that we would go 7-5 they would have that that was about right if not on the high side.

All in all a good job and most importantly a bright future.

Given the schedule, losing our two starting OTs, playing this much inexperience at WR (with all the drops that came from it) and down 2-3 safeties in most games, yeah. They deserve a lot of credit.

In long, no.

The loss to Purdue is ridiculous and just shouldn’t happen anymore. Had we won that, we would all be pretty pleased with the season, imho. It is frustrating to continue to lose those types of games.
I thank the players for HANGING in a tough situation.ACTUALLY pretty weird happenings.Made being a fan cool.Hawk players tough.

i do think that the Purdue loss will sting for a while; 8-4 sounds so much better

How much more BS can you come up with to justify an average season with some terrible performances against average teams? So consider this another natty for the hawks. Hell, KF should be COY.

2014 CCG against Ohio State. 59-0. But that's the only game I can think of right now. They recovered pretty well from that fiasco.
That was all on Gary Andersen and his years of going with lighter, faster players, less weight lifting and shorter practices.
We were cooked for that OSU game, players had nothing and were beaten physically.
Took Chryst two seasons to get them big again.

Interesting. Forgot that was Andersen's last year. I should have known that--you don't get hammered 59-0 in a game like that and keep your job too often. :D

Iowa State's been touting SOS for years for their shortcomings, why not us?

Let's just all forget about evaluating the season based on the full record since Iowa never schedules anyone with a pulse out of conference and ISU has a good run of being over .500 every 5 years or so. If Iowa isn't coming into the last two weeks of the season with a chance to win the division it isn't a successful season. It would be different if they were in the east, but in the west there's no excuse for not being in the mix every year.
