Iowa offers 2020 6'10" Xavier Foster of Oskaloosa

^^^^^ Actually Bryce does a good job of making sense here. He, like ISU, doesn't care where their payers come from. Please take note persons involved in Barnstormers and Martin Bros and all other dedicated people coaching up Iowa guys...including Iowa High School Coaches. Don't bother calling Prohm up when you have a good young player...not interested until everyone KNOWS the kid is a stud.

I'm proud to have had McCabe, May and any player we've enjoyed watching in the black and gold.
The persons involved in Barnstormers and Martin Bros and all other dedicated people coaching up Iowa guys...including Iowa High School Coaches want the best opportunity for their players. It ends there.

Abso-freagin'-lutely! Which is why when the U of I puts the time in to coach up Iowa players (read history of Matt Bowen and comments made by Dr. Tom at the time of his recruitment) and Iowa State just expects "Grade A Beef"...it's no wonder so many Iowa kids choose Iowa! It really does end there.

Moore was a coach on Pete's AAU team.
I believe he was the prior coach of Pete's AAU team. I remember the story as Moore was at an AAU game just watching and possibly talking to his former AAU players which is not allowed if you are a college coach. The article said Fred could be at the game because his son was playing and that was the only reason he was allowed there.

Yes, I think he stopped the AAU part when he got the job with ISU. I was just pointing out that was the connection between Lefty and Pete. I believe after the AAU tournament incident they also discovered Moore and Pete had texted back and forth several times, which also wasn't allowed.

Tough situation honestly. Their interaction could have had nothing to do with ISU, I don't know.

Since the argument started about where the players are coming from, I'll just go on the record as saying this. I want the Hawks to have the best players possible, who are good people/students and have a skill set that best fits what Fran wants to fit his system. And I don't give a hoot about where they are from. If he has 13 Iowa guys and they can win, Frantastic. If he has 13 guys from everywhere but Iowa and they can win, Frantastic. If it's some combination of those, Frantastic.

Whether or not his team is full of Iowa guys makes no nevermind. They are Hawks, where they grew up is immaterial to me. I'll root for guys like Moss, Dailey, Cook just as much as guys like Pemsl, Kreiner and Bohannon. To me they are all the same once they hit campus.

A man after my own heart. I can't grasp feeling any other way and I admit that.

agree with you but you are missing the point....when a school has shown a long history of not signing in state kids...good luck to them trying to sell future D1 in state players. That's the point and the only point.

Agree, with most of your comment except for the all non-Iowa team.

Are people being deliberately obtuse to what a recruiting network is? Have we forgotten that Alford came in bragging about what a great national network he was going to establish?

Own the state, supplement with the best talent we can add from everywhere else.

Why should you care where your players come from? If there are power 5 level players in Iowa that fit what you are looking for then recruit them. If not, look other places.

I think Foster will be a different story as far as whether Iowa is clearly going to get him. If KU, Duke, etc start getting involved then all bets are off.

If there are two players, say PG, that are relatively equal in everything, but one is from Iowa and grew up an Iowa fan and the other is from NYC and is trying to decide between Iowa, UNC, Duke, Cuse, etc...yeah, I'll lean towards the Iowa kid.

If there are two players who both want to commit, one is from Iowa and one is from NYC, but the one from NYC is vastly superior, I'm taking the one from NYC.

I'd love to have Iowa kids throughout the roster. But if the choice is between Iowa kids or better players from out of state, I'm taking the out of state kids. I want Fran to get the best players he can...I don't care where they come from. And once they get to IA City, I'm rooting for all of them equally, whether they are from my hometown, Storm Lake, Chicago, Germany or anywhere else. Once they have that Hawkeye jersey on, they're Hawks.

I don't care where they come from as well....what I do care is that Iowa (as has UNI) have shown interest in recruiting & signing.. everywhere including in state...another in state school has not. I'll take our chances in landing in state D1 talent which might include the next Marcus Paige type level... Maybe that's Joe Wieskamp. Maybe that's Xavier Foster.

The choice does not have to be Iowa kids of less talent. The choice should be the best talent available (which includes Iowa kids). Like you I root for all of recruits regardless of where they come from...I just don't want to exclude Iowa high schools.

Agreed completely. Like I said initially, the best players who fit. If they're from Iowa, great. If they aren't, great.

You might be right ... but wasn't the case with Wieskamp. Considering the Foster family ties to Iowa...I would think we will have a shot...I wouldn't say all bets would be off regardless of who gets involved.

and to help facilitate that...it helps to establish some history recruiting the state. I know Fran & staff have created that contact pipeline in Iowa..something the previous staff failed to do.

Iowa State has shown interest in recruiting and signing Iowa kids, they just haven't been able to.

u are correct they have failed to "sign" Iowa kids in the last 10 recruiting years...other than LA Pomlee & Brady Ernst. In the case of Ernst, Iowa had at least one open gym ..decided not to offer.

Yep, and ISU had a desperation offer to Ernst and then asked him to move on after a year. Pomlee was kicked off the team for violating team rules. Definitely need less recruits like that.

couldn't agree more...pretty poor choices for the only two. Ernst does have 'some' talent but not the motor necessary to go along with it.
Pomlee was so long ago I don't even remember the circumstances.

Pomlee was considered a good recruit early on in high school if I recall correctly but then he just really dropped off. Of course McDermott had some really bad recruits at ISU

McDermott also had some really good recruits that he did nothing with.

Looks like Foster had 6 pts, 8 boards, and 3 blks the first game this season. Keep in mind that he is a Freshman.

http://criwmpennu.org/osp/3773-ohs-basketball-splits-doubleheader-at-fairfield.html

In 4 games he's averaging 4.8 pts, 6 rbs and just under 3 blocks. I'd guess, in terms of quality, Pella Christian is probably the best team they've played, followed by Knoxville, then C-Ville, then Fairfield. Their starting center, Cole Henry, is a 6'8 SO, who is also their leading scorer and rebounder.

If you click this, then select Printable Season Team Stats, it will give you his totals.

This. And it's hard to blame them for wanting to play for the best program they can.

The Korver boys all played for Pella Christian, IIRC, and Chris Street played at Indianola, so the competition is more than adequate. I wonder what stats Kyle and Klayton put up as freshmen, just for comparison purposes?

Seems to me the stats are a little light, but they are probably bringing him along slowly.

The Korvers went to Pella, not PC.

That said, PC has a really good team, they beat Pella on Friday night. As I said, PC will be one of the 3-4 best teams Osky plays this year, along with Grinnell, Pella and DCG.

I stand corrected. Just read the thread about the QC Times article on Weiskamp ... who sounds like he had a lot tougher competition in the MAC and averaged a lot more points. Hmmm. Maybe Joe is just that good?
