Iowa St is going to be in the CFB playoffs

They most definitely have a shot. Utah and K State are in their way though. This is what the playoff expansion was all about though. You will see more than just 7 or 8 of the same teams with a newbie every now and then.

Utah is not a very good team.

They might make it, but they better win their conf title game and here’s why….
Saw this on twitter:
Sounds great to say there are 12 spots but in my opinion, unless there is some major hiccups 11 of the 12 spots are virtual locks….and even more so because some of the big boys can have a shitty game and get it excused now.

SEC is getting 4
B1G will get OSU, Oregon and PSU
GO5 gets 1
ND 1
ACC 1
Big 12 1

Leaving only one real at large up for grabs

So what you're saying is, we need to root for BYU

There's five B12 teams with 0 or 1 losses. Long way to go there, but ISU appears to have an offense and a defense. Hell, the schedule isn't exactly daunting, and no Texas or Oklahoma standing in their way like most years.

We can laugh about it now, and yes they have to play TT/Utah/KSU yet. But they're playing pretty good football right now.

Because teams in the Little 12 suck on offense, defense, and ST.

That ain’t happening in football. Only 12 spots and they aren’t getting in unless they win the B12. Don’t see that happening either. And if, big if they do, they will get boat raced by an SEC team.
You’re really trying hard to make sure the Clones don’t get it. Oh but wait, if they do, they’ll get boat raced. Sounds like the Hawks.

They are a good team in a mediocre conference with no true elite teams like BIG or SEC (or even ACC with Clemson and Miami) so have a shot for sure with a lot of football left. Every team on schedule except Kansas could beat them (heck even Kansas could ball out an upset). But I thought they would stumble at WVA and was surprised they won going away. They will have to make and win the conference game because I think the Big 12 will only get one team.

They end the season with Utah and KSU. They can def be 10-0 going into those games.

If they make it to the champ game at 12-0, I think they’re in the cfp win or lose. If they make it at 11-1, then they need the auto bud bc they won’t be in at 11-2.
We will see but I don’t think they get in if they lose conference game. $EC getting 4 spots and BIG getting 3-4 spots and ACC / BIG 12 and rest of football fighting over 4-5 bids. ACC will get two of them if Miami and Clemson end season undefeated and with 1 loss respectively and I think they will based on schedules.

I think the Big Ten will only get 3 teams in this year. Oregon, Ohio St, and Penn St (if they don’t collapse down the stretch). I anticipate Penn State getting beat by Ohio St.

I think a 12-1 big 12 #2 should be in over a big 10/sec 10-2 #4, and hopefully the committee does as well.

I think ISU is really good.
I have only seen them play once.

They are better offensively than Iowa, although Iowa has the better running back of the two teams, but that is about all I can say.

Other than Texas, and I would put Oregon and Ohio State near them, there really aren’t any other teams that great IMO.

In short, it’s difficult to say. Based on the rest of the country, Iowa State is probably ranked where they should be. I think when it’s all said and done, however, they won’t be ranked near the top ten but that’s TBD. This year is way too difficult to predict.

I agree there is a top tier of elite. Finishing top 12 and an invite to the CFP would legitimize ISU as a really good team, even if there is a gap between them and Ohio State.

As an FSU fan I am old enough to remember the committee leave out an undefeated FSU and ACC conference champion out so I may be a tad bias when it comes to SEC and ESPN influence on the committee. Between ESPN and the SEC fluffers you should just earmark and expect 4 SEC teams every playoff. Rest of football will get the other 8 but BIG is also locking down 3-4 spots per year too. There will be tons of 2 loss teams from SEC and BIG getting in over 1 loss teams from the other 80 something teams every single year.

Well, yeah, I think there’s no doubt they’re a really good team. The question is, how good?

We just don’t know how good until they play someone who is a legitimate top 25 team. I know Iowa crushed Washington yesterday, but I also remember when they crushed Ohio State in 2017. They then went on the road and sucked ass against Wisconsin the following week.

In short, Iowa has a lot more to prove before they can be considered a good win for Iowa State beyond it just being a rivalry game.

This isn’t about Iowa.

If a team doesnt play one of 5-6 teams in the country it’s logical to question how good they are.

Iowa had one of those teams on their schedule and got smoked.

Iowa State has zero. There is a logical reason to question them.

BYU has 1 remaining team on the schedule that is in the top half of the conference.
Iowa State has 3? remaining in the top half of the conference.

I didn't look if BYU is full member or not, but I would think BYU has a better shot at this point in making it through as conference champion.

I could see Iowa State losing 1 game and both being included with 0 or 1 loss, esp if the SEC keeps giving each other losses....

I mean, they haven’t played a legitimate top 25 team yet. I think that’s the biggest question mark.

Even if Iowa State were to get steamrolled by someone like Oregon or Texas or Ohio State, that doesn’t necessarily mean they don’t deserve their ranking. The legitimacy question would be answered by playing a legitimate top 25 opponent—something Iowa certainly was not at the time Iowa State beat them.

Actually I think that’s the upside to current environment for Big XII. They don’t have to compete with the big dogs to get into playoff but they have a path to get in.

Sure, Iowa is printing money in Big Ten but they really have no shot at playoff. They can print shirts that say “$100 million in Revenue” if people get off on that. The murderers row of teams Iowa would need to beat to make playoff would be crazy. This year might be the easiest schedule they will see for a decade.
