For those in the know, how does Iowa's future recruiting classes compare to PSU, Mich. tOSU, etc?
Thanks.

It's not who you recruit it's how you develop them, am I right? For those in the know, how does Iowa's future recruiting classes compare to PSU, Mich. tOSU, etc?

If Lee’s back next year, Iowa will have a shot. A long one, but a shot to win it all.The two brightest spots as dark as young recruits go are Ayala and Kennedy, maybe Henson to a slightly lesser degree. It's going to be a few years before Iowa is truly contending for a title again (after this year that is)
Howard will be 133125: Howard
133: ? (Maybe Cael convinces RBY to come back?)
141: Bartlett
149: SVN
157: Berge
165: Facundo
174: Starocci
184: Brooks
197: Dean/Beard
285: Kerkvliet
3 holes?
vs.
125: Lee
133: Schriever/Ayala
141: Henson
149: Murin
157: ?
165: Kennedy
174: Brands
184: Assad
197: Warner
285: Cassioppi
This. I think Iowa competes next year. A lot of talent is leaving the wrestling pool after this year. I’m also pretty high in Henson, Kennedy, and I think Cullan improves.Fully expect Spencer to led us to a title with a bunch of young guys ala Striebler.
So Steen 125 and Howard 133? I wasn't sure if Berge was going to come back for his "super senior" season or not, since he already retired once. I'm not ready to write Facundo off because of a bad Southern Scuffle as a true freshman, but I wish him all the collegiate success of other elite PSU recruits like Manville.Howard will be 133
Berge is done after this year
Facundo is still a hole. Won’t place
When was the last time the Hawks were healthy? (Serious question)Seems wild that a lot of pundits want to write us off next year. We’ll be right in the thick of it if healthy.
2 years ago. When was the last time the Hawks were healthy? (Serious question)
Ah that's right. How quickly I forget. They cancelled the national tourney the morning or two prior. What a damn shame.2 years ago.
I agree with most of this but I think Riggins is in that blue chip tier. You could make an argument for Schriever as well. If not for a injury his senior year of hs he would have been top 20 p4p in his class. On paper we are not on the same level. Previously during the lengthy title drought we were shitting the bed on the recruiting front, not getting near enough top end (top 10 overall) recruits compared to PSU especially but osu as well. We addressed the issue got Spencer, Kem, Warner, Bull, Tony, ADS jumped to that level, Eirman a proven talent. This latest group of commits seems to have drifted back towards quantity. Drake Ayala and Kennedy are that top level, Henson in the neighborhood. Gabe Arnold is there. Nate Jesuroga is there. Kueter is that level but the football thing clouds that. Franklin, Rathjen, Reyna, Riggins, Block, Schriever are talented but are in that next tier. Joel Jesuroga, Jace Rhodes, Bradley Hill, Drake Rhodes, Big Red, Micky Griffith and the Martinsons are probably another tier down. IMO we need at least a couple more of the top end blue chips or transfer equivalents.

Riggins could very well end up at that level, I agree he looks very talented but I was talking more on paper his overall ranking is not in that top tier. Schriever wasn't in the top tier either after the injuries. Right now Schriever would be ranked outside AA level in the #15 give or take neighborhood. Bottom line is we need high AA and national champ level wrestlers to win titles. Next year we have Spencer, Cass and Warner coming back who meet that criteria, (all top tier recruits) and it will be the last year for 2 of them. Nobody else on the team has proven they are likely top 4 and the 3 most encouraging to get there are Ayala and Kennedy who were top tier recruits and Henson who was right there close. To be a yearly title contender you need your fair share of top tier recruits.I agree with most of this but I think Riggins is in that blue chip tier. You could make an argument for Schriever as well. If he comes back healthy, Van Ness is expected at 149 for PSU next year and could be a tough matchup for Murin.Either team that can land a stud transfer, would have a clear edge in my opinion. We need to fill 157, F*** guys have more holes maybe but more high end returning fire power. With Lee back It would appear we would be favored at 25, 49, 65 and heavy.
33 I guess, remains to be seen, but i like us here also. 41 looks pretty good too, but we have to see who does what when the lights are on. Brands is tuff but would have to jump levels to challenge at 74, Assad the same at 84. Warner at 97 just pisses me off!!!
Get a stud to fill 57, and IF Fale does not add another 3 guys to the line up like this year? We become the favorites!
Howard will be 125 for them. If RBY actually does move on you can bet they will convince a high AA transfer to hit the portal. 141 will be Bartlett, 149 probably Van Ness although he hasn't proven any more than Bartlett to this point. I'd guess Haines at 157, Facundo at 165, Starocci at 174, Brooks 184, Dean 197 and Kerk 285. Beard enjoying Bench time.Either team that can land a stud transfer, would have a clear edge in my opinion. Haines ain’t beating Paddy. Of that I’m certain. Unless he loads for bear, and turns into a physical monster over night… Paddy just built different.Levi Haines is unbeaten in two college opens so far this year and he is killing people. PSU will probably plug him at 157 as a true freshman. He could face Paddy Gallager in the semis at Edinboro Open and if Gallager takes the mat I wouldn't be surprised if Haines wins. Probably will be AA level right out of the gate.
I wouldn't be so sure. Have you watched much of Haines lately. The kid is special.Haines ain’t beating Paddy. Of that I’m certain. Unless he loads for bear, and turns into a physical monster over night… Paddy just built different.
Very doubtful. They think Howard is a 125 and Steen not that good. There is a chance Steen goes at 125 and Howard 33 I think for them next year.

Is the new wrestling facility fully funded? Wondering if ground breaking may be delayed due to the $42 million deficient in the 20-21 athletic budget recently announced. The current $262 million athletic dept. total deficit surely will impact dept. functioning in some manner. Can’t be business as usual with that level of deficit.I completely forgot the new wrestling facility. That will change the recruiting landscape quickly.
I believe it's supposed to break ground this spring/summer ... correct?
fosu has yet to prove they can excel with top recruits, the exception being Sasso. I’ll believe it when I see it.Next year will be interesting for sure but fosu is going to be in the hunt in 2 years with the recruits they have bought also.
Wrestling raised their own money. It's not coming from the budget. Is the new wrestling facility fully funded?
