This was an absolute beat down. Iowa State looked tough and motivated. Very efficient and some of the more smothering defense I have seen in a while.
We are just not quick or strong enough on either end of the floor.
Great coaching by ISU as well, they really pressured our PG's which made Dix look pretty bad given he is not a PG. They forced a shit ton of turnovers, we just looked uncomfortable and not crisp with cuts or passing.
Not getting stops, not making shots, turning ball over. Ugh.
Positives:
Bowen was able to get to the bucket and played with effort
Harding was active, kind of a mess as a shooter
Freeman looked decent, though 4 TO's
Going Forward:
--We need guys like Krikke and Sandfort to score, but we need to find a way for them to get easier looks when defense heats up like tonight
--Fran needs to find a way to get more out of Dix, playing the point was a disaster
--We are going to have to lean in with Dembele, we lack size and athleticism and he checks both boxes

We are a scrawny Y league team that has a very good chance at last place in the conference.
Freeman and Dembele are the only ones with BT frames, everyone else is MVC stock.

Don’t you think Purdue, Creighton and Iowa State will absolutely destroy some teams down their home floor? Iowa State is the “dog” of the three and they are absolutely loaded for bear this year..Iowa State has Sweet 16 written all over them with a break or two. TJ has long been recognized as one the the nation's best young coaches With a specialization in defense. You guys are investing way too much emotion into a BB game played in early December. Let’s all hope this team figures some stuff out because January and February can be L-O-N-G months if they don’t.

Blown out out by 20-25 pts the last two games. We’re not even competitive. Yes a young team is expected to maybe lose but hell you still should be competitive
Losing to Purdue and Creighton is one thing. They are final four type teams. Getting punked by 30 to a rival Iowa State team that is at best a bubble team, is quite another thing.
Nearly the exact same outcome happened the last time Iowa went to Ames with both Murray bros so I'm not going to make to much of it besides the obvious that the lineups are clearly not what they should be.
This is all still pretty typical Fran stuff.
At least two years ago that Iowa State team was really good defensively and made it to a sweet sixteen. I’m not sure this Iowa state team even makes the tournament.

We got a guy with zero in his 30 year career.
He gets his players from the same places as everyone else, goodbye.
He may but he isn't demanding they bulk up in the least and he SAF doesn't demand defense.
And none of them are "go to" players except Freeman. He is our best player, period.
Sandfort can grimace and act as intense as he wants, he's an okay BT support player at best.
And they have ZERO fight in them.
A couple of those kids have been in Iowa City maybe 3 or 4 months! Fran has NEVER been known for his defense. He is known for his team’s ability to score a bunch of points. Freeman has played what, 10 games as a Hawkeye...any team that has a Virgin Freshman as their “go to” guy is probably looking at a long season...unles that guy is a Michael Jordan or Larry Bird.
Just not a cohesive team. Krikke has certain skills on offense, but, just doesn't really seem to flow very well. Also, the defense is truly bad.
Fran is all over the place with minutes again, which is not unexpected with underperforming upper classes and 5 new players to the roster. Minute distribution has never been a Fran strong suit in reality
4 freshman, a transfer that is in it for offense, and 2 seniors that may not have much leadership, is a recipe for struggles. Outside of Freeman and maybe Sandfort, there is not a lot of talent on this team.
Win on Sunday and go from there

Michigan is just as bad as Iowa is on defense, so, Iowa should be able to score. Michigan doesn't appear to be a very good team, their size might cause some issues as you noted.
Iowa does have 3 road losses, not competitive in 2 of them, so, there is time to get back on track.

Considering the Net Ranking this morning has them at #11 in the country, I think you are way off. Very unlikely that ISU falls out of the top 30 at any time in the Net ranking. Every game in the Big 12 will likely be a Q1 game, and win or loss that helps.

Oh I know.......I told you all this months ago. I told you what would happen months ago at the end of last season, and why Fran should've been fired, left, retired, f***ed off, whatever after last season.............people got upset back then, and some still do. I get it, though.
And there are a lot of “basketball people” who think Iowa State is really talent laden and well coached...we shall see how it plays out, I guess.
