It's official....Fran is out!

I don't see how any Hawkeye fan could be grief stricken about this. He got twice as long as most coaches would get with his results. Add that to the nepotism with his boys and it's long overdue. He put his kids over the program, period. I just wish this would've happened years ago, but the timing could be perfect if we get the Drake coach. The curse of Iowa basketball is about to come to an end.
I am hardly grief stricken. I'm glad for the change. I just would be lying if I said I felt NOTHING.

Agree with your post, though.

Glad he got us over the lick years but it was beyond time to go. It was the same thing year after year with him.
There's a saying in business and any organization: you don't want to be the person who immediately follows the failure. You want to be the person who follows the person who immediately followed the failure. Fran was the "gap" hire who sadly was allowed to stay for 15 years.

Anyone else concerned they fall short on a quality HC due to how shitty their NIL program is?
If Beth is worth her money she'll be able to sell a quality coach on the potential. That includes firing up donors, supporting businesses and the fan base. Any coach who can do that automatically will be viewed as a winner before they even put a team on the floor.

I'm not surprised, but I'm surprised........

Hard to feel too bad for anyone who made the kind of money he made the last 15 years and got a 4million dollar going away present to boot.....His kids (and theirs) are taken care of forever - not everyone is that lucky (ok, now i'm pissed)..........lol Adios Fran.

I think this has been in the works and they are going to move fast no matter who they have their sites on. Indiana has the Drake coach high on their list as well so he's sitting in a pretty good negotiating table. Interesting that someone must have stepped up booster wise to buy out Frans contract because it was till actually quite a bit. I think people may be surprised on the intrest in this job because the big ten in its revenue sharing your going to see more $ going into the sports and NIL. Plus now beth can we finally fix the seating at Carver now and get some excitement around the floor with students.

You'd think an AD would always be cautious about a new coach with kids in position to play under him. That's always tricky to navigate. Almost a no-win.

God I hate the obligatory "Great guy, had his kids backs, they'd go to war for him..." shit.
Great. Who didn't?
Has a coach ever been let go, anywhere, for performance issues, and people said "Can't really feel bad about this one, Coach wasn't a nice guy, didn't have his kids backs, and nobody liked him"?
