I've seen enough

I think you guys are over reacting to one game. Iowa is going to struggle with athletic frontcourts this year. Creighton just doesn't have an athletic front court. Iowa actually matches up real well with Creighton. I was really only impressed with 3 Creighton players. Their PG and PF weren't impressive to me. Patrick, Payton and Krikke are going to struggle against more athletic teams. Maybe Fran can adjust but I just don't trust him to because those 3 guys are good at the end of the floor Fran cares about most.
So I think sometimes we get caught up in what we can’t do. You’re right, that group is terrible defensively. However, the other team has to guard us as well. All 3 of those guys can score from multiple places on the court and the way we push the ball we have advantages as well. Krikke was taking Kalkbrenner out 15 feet from the basket and scoring all day. Sandfort can score from 25 feet and in and Patrick is a tough guard for a slower power forward. Works both ways.

This is a good point. Rim protection is going to be a problem given that, of the three players listed, only Patrick has the physical tools to be much of a shot blocker. I think a key for us this year will be how much rim protection can Patrick provide in order to cover for Krikke's deficiencies in that area. We did match up fairly well with Creighton athletically (except for Kalkbrenner's size); however, their outside shooting at every position except for Center forced our forwards to vacate the paint, which is where they are going to be most effective defensively. So Creighton was a challenge in that respect. Perhaps other teams won't have as much outside shooting (particularly at PF) allowing Patrick to roam, block shots and deflect passes as a help defender (*possible wishful thinking alert*). But any situation where our front court players have to contain dribble penetration from guards (so perimeter screens, transition cross-matches etc.) are going to be a major challenge.

Saw some good things. Liked Freeman, Demblee is raw. Kricke can shoot. Fran has depth but that always doesn’t work in his favor because of his substitutions. Didn’t see enough of Payton. Patrick has no desire to rebound or play defense. Have to figure out PG. Perkins gambles too much on defense. It always amazes me how many dunks and layups the other team gets compared to us. Reflection of bad defense. Team looks familiar.

Well, at least Fran probably will only be playing at most 10 in a game (the other 2 scholarship players: Brauns probably won't play much; Mulvey is redshirting)

Bowen has gotten to the rim more in 4 games than Ulis did in his whole career.

Dumb comparison.
17 assists 1 turnover so far. That’s damn good for anyone. We’ve been complaining for years about not having a quick pt guard that can get in the lane and score or dish. Looks like we have that guy. Took awhile for Bowen to get physically up to speed but he’s going to be a good one.

The little we've seen of Brauns he did his signature throw down that I had seen in all of his videos. I'm curious how close he is to breaking into the rotation.

I don't think there's been a dropoff on the defensive end from Ulis to Bowen. He was bad in the exhibition game, but he's been excellent since the real lights went up. He's a much better perimeter defender than Perkins, that's for sure.
I just watched the ark st game last night. Was impressed with DBs ability to jump up and around a ball screen while maintaining proper position.

Perkins is so erratic on defense, it's frustrating. Half the time he's not playing with focus and the other half he's taking bad risks for steals.

Dix is very solid all around.

I couldn't agree more. I want to see more of Bowen + Dix lineups defensively with Freeman at the post as the rim protector. We might actually be able to guard a ball screen for once with that particular lineup.

We gave up 68 to North Dakota, 67 to Alabama St, and are about to let Creighton drop 100. Not sure what you see that is better defensively.
in a word SLOW, which is a trademark of Fran's teams. Hard to play defense when you are consistently smoked off the dribble and off the glass.

Iowa seems to always be short a guard under Fran. Then trying to get a 6'7"or 6'8" player to be a guard.

As a personal preference, I've always preferred a PG who is a true offensive threat. Overall, given that parameter, I would say that Dix would be our best option. Bowen has definitely improved this season, but is throwing up bricks from three. Perkins, if he is our PG, and I'm not sure that's his best position, is a pretty mediocre shooter and Brock just hasn't found his shot since the season began, but as his career here continues, I would bet that changes.

Pretty obvious our on the ball defenders are a lot better than normal
The quicker you score the more you will give up! I think you have to look at all the stats to see the whole game! Points per possession, turnovers, rebounds, three point plays and opponents points per possession, turnovers, rebounds, three point plays! And of course possessions a game!

Generally a pg who can get to the basket and finish putts more pressure on a defense and breaks down a defense more than a guy who is mostly a shooter.

Not saying Dix can't do some of that but his ability to penetrate would be minimal against most big10 pgs.

Dix should be starting at the 2/3 with Bowen and Perkins.

In Creighton game, Kalbrenner and KIng were combined 10/13 from field. Krikke with a hot shooting game was less efficient at 11/18. In the Oklahoma game, their two bigs were 11/14 from field and Krikee was 4/9.

My point would be don't underestimate how bad Iowa's post defense/rebounding is with Krikke, PMAC, Sandfort as our starting frontline.

I agree, that lineup won't work out in Iowas favor over the course of the year.

And there's no reason for that lineup when you have Freeman available.

The difference-making point guard IS NOT on the the roster. Fran doesn't understand how to construct a viable roster. He basically has a bunch of over-achieving, slower 6-7" guys. Nice stories, but not going to win when it matters. We've seen this throughout his career. Why would anyone expect it to change?

I, too, have seen enough.

Three straight blowout losses. Fran ejected. Defense once again ranked in the 100s in defensive efficiency.

Today at home, was the type of game Iowa usually bounces back and gets a win. Not today. Run out of the gym in the 2nd half by a 4-5 Michigan team.

I don't usually go in for calling for a coaching change, but I'm ready for something different. I've been a hard core fan since the 1980s, and I've never been so apathetic about Iowa hoops.

It's no longer must watch TV for me. Just something to do if I have nothing else going on.

I don't even watch at this point. Agree with everything you said @TampaHawkfan

Me either. Had my curling league so couldn't watch (which I wouldn't have, anyway), but had zero interest in knowing how the game was going. Checked the score when I got home and was not surprised to see they were run out of the gym yet again.

I have reached the point where I just don't care.

Not even enjoyable to watch this team. They should win the next 2 games against the mighty FAMU Rattlers and the powerhouse UMBC Retrievers.

But, even those games aren’t worth watching.

can we keep this bumped all season long, it's the only fun we'll have in regards to the men's team
