They said he wasn’t getting many reps at QB where he was on the depth chart, so he’s been practicing as LB for the scout team.
I would be fine with Stratton especially if he is getting a lot of reps over 2 weeks prep time. Stratton seemed quick and fast enough, he threw some great passes, he didnt look nervous so if the running game is working I think Stratton could do well.Marco Lainez, of course, is out for the rest of the regular season.
NHL Hockey season in full swing, The time of Iowa football is over and Flames season tickets has arrived in full swing , Predators Islanders, Rangers and Wild in this week, liver flush season in full swing . I truly feel for People in Iowa stuck with the Hawks as the only game in Town, between Kirk and Fran i bet big pharma is making a killing down there.
Was it Lester that was continuously trying to ram KJ or was it Sullivan not making the right reads in the RPO?As a coach I’d be more upset with the o-lines inability to run or pass block. Sully was getting killed back there and it wouldn’t have made a difference who the QB was. Maybe Lester should be upset with himself for continuously trying to ram KJ into the heart of the D or not having some quick passing plays like screens or slants.
Iowa wrestling looks more stacked than I expected. Didn't realize we had all the guys come in that we did. Must of had some money flow in there.options are a good thing.
i prefer watching NBA over NHL
You may not want to hear it, but Fran has some good young talent.NHL Hockey season in full swing, The time of Iowa football is over and Flames season tickets has arrived in full swing , Predators Islanders, Rangers and Wild in this week, liver flush season in full swing . Felt like this was coming the moment Stratton put his helmet on. It's gonna be Cade the rest of the year and we're going to have to drink our way through it (or not watch?) .i’m not thrilled to hear lester saying he actually thinks cade is in the competition for qb1.
Two games and then the exhibition bowl.Felt like this was coming the moment Stratton put his helmet on. It's gonna be Cade the rest of the year and we're going to have to drink our way through it (or not watch?) .
If you truly believe that, I have several bridges that I am having closeouts on. Get yours early!Wait what? The fanaticals on this board have been roasting KF for playing Cade and all this time it's been Lester's decision?
Probably and sadly trueFelt like this was coming the moment Stratton put his helmet on. It's gonna be Cade the rest of the year and we're going to have to drink our way through it (or not watch?) .
He hasn't been abused mentally by this coaching staff and their inability to develop QBs is what he means.

That's why he looked so good on that drive against UCLA.
He was not a linebacker. I still think the reporter had him confused with Kyle Gerardy who ALSO wears #19. Once Resar switched weeks ago I would think that Stratton had to be running the practice squad QB snaps. No doubt. I take it that Stratton doesn't have the playbook down. (Obvious for a linebacker). But he has the tools and made good decisions. Best passer and has wheels! Give him 2 weeks with the #1s and turn him loose!
Resar moved to WR weeks ago so Stratton probably ran the scout offense. Others have said that the #19 on the scout team defense was Gerardy, not Stratton...They said he wasn’t getting many reps at QB where he was on the depth chart, so he’s been practicing as LB for the scout team.

Okay thaks for that.....From our very own Hawkeye Beacon:
“At the start of the season, Stratton was Iowa's fourth-string quarterback behind Cade McNamara, Sullivan and Marco Lainez. Just two weeks ago, Stratton practiced at scout-team linebacker for the Hawkeyes. Due to injuries to all three QBs ahead of him, as well as a position flip and an injury to freshman James Resar, Stratton was the lone available quarterback for the Hawkeyes in the second half of the Friday night loss.”
Kyler (not Kyle) Gerardy walked on as a DB(athlete) and played QB for North Scott. I believe HE was practicing as DB for the scout team.
But yes, both Gerardy and Stratton were #19. Not sure if Gerardy had to change his number since you can’t have to offensive guys both wearing #19.

While I agree with you we have only seen a minute pic of his play. Give him a full game and it could be different.I thought the kid looked decent.
Stratton had some really nice throws in his limited time, but Sullivan had a really nice deep ball that shouldn't be forgotten amidst his errors. Sullivan is a project but has great physical talent, much like the MSU qb that has thrown way more picks this year and yet continues to be the starter.
This is how stars are born. While I agree with you we have only seen a minute pic of his play. Give him a full game and it could be different.
Sully was a step up in our eyes as a more mobile QB. But he still turned the ball over and now is injured from being a bit reckless with his mobility. Let's face it Iowa offense has more issues than just at QB. Stacking the box against Iowa is the answer of opposing defenses right now. Hard for the QB alone to overcome.
Scooby snacks??????I would hope, that if Sully were cleared to play, that he'd be QB1
It will be interesting to see what happens with Shaggy getting all of the QB1 reps this week...and maybe next week?
I am ok with that. Lester is getting tested in several ways. We can bring in experience if needed, but we are a developmental program. You come to Iowa, you come to coach. Jackson seems to have the ability, he just needs reps and refinement. In just the short amount of time Lester has been here. he has done a lot with the QB room.
At one point against UCLA they had all 11 in the box and yes we still tried to run the ball. This is how stars are born.
Sorry, but no.Tim failed to finish the quote with “…because our line still sucks door knobs”.
Well in that situation is #1 allowed to change the play? Kind of stuff I would want to know. How much leeway does the QB have out there. We know the read option stuff the QB has the option keep the ball based on his read.At one point against UCLA they had all 11 in the box and yes we still tried to run the ball.
He made it sound that way, but I bet ole Kirk has the final say and he wants McNamara to start and play every down.Again, Lester made it sound like it's his decision on who is QB1.
And Lester obviously talks to KF about it and then KF has to answer the questions (and take all the heat) at the weekly press conferences.
Do you really think that if Kirk is big footing on Lester that Lester will stay another season? He made it sound that way, but I bet ole Kirk has the final say and he wants McNamara to start and play every down.
And c'mon Fran, how much heat does Ferentz ever get? The press corps in Eastern Iowa is as compliant and agreeable as any in the country. Iowa City, when never a discouraging word is heard (at least from the media).
You know what I loved about Stratton, and I told the wife this when he came in. The dude was not pissing down his leg. There was no anxiety on display. That's half the damn battle with a QB. We have had some dudes with the jitters, and he didn't look like he had any.
They need to teach him to protect his body. Guy needs to slide, he went to crap after taking those hits.Stratton had some really nice throws in his limited time, but Sullivan had a really nice deep ball that shouldn't be forgotten amidst his errors.
