When his pocket broke down on third-and-goal from just outside the 10-yard line late in the third quarter of Thursday's preseason finale against the Buffalo Bills, Jake Rudock did the one thing that's come to define his game this preseason: He extended the play with his legs.
Rudock leaked out of the pocket to his right, but rather than run for the goal line, as some anxious young quarterbacks might, the Detroit Lions' rookie sprinted towards the sideline with his head up and his eyes downfield.
He saw slot receiver Jace Billingsley work his way towards the end zone, and with Bills cornerback Sterling Moore trailing in coverage, Rudock lofted a soft pass over Moore's shoulder that Billingsley hauled in one-handed for a touchdown.
"Jake’s a great playmaker," Billingsley said. "He scrambled and I got behind my defender, he made a great pass and it worked out."
