Jesuroga, Riggins, Fleshman competing at NOC

Wow. Tate Naak made quick work of Gammell. Freestyle match, td 3 leg laces and one more td for the 10-0 tech.

Gaitan decisive 8-1 win over Riggins. Scoreless 1st. Gaitan turns Riggins in 2nd, adds 2 tds in 3rd. Riggins looked pretty spent by the 3rd period.

Gaitan looked real good. Strong td defense and a bulldog on top.

Let's face it. We were fortunate to get the needed pieces into place to get back on top for a couple years after it seemed like it wasn't likely to happen. Getting a much needed upgrade in recruiting talent was a big key to this. If we don't keep up with the Joneses we will be back on the outside looking in in short order. There is no place for dropping the ball again on the recruiting front. Lessons should have been learned.

Riggings is our top recruit in the class of ‘22, right? I know it’s just one match, but an 8-1 defeat is pretty disappointing. Are there reasons not to be too concerned? How high is Gaitan in the PFP?

I agree about the result being disappointing however Gaitan beat PSUs top recruit, top 10 overall and projected starter at 157 next year Levi Haines at super 32 so he is obviously good and has been majorly undervalued in pfp rankings. Riggins was 30 in the last class of 22 big board from Flo. Willie probably had him in a similar range but had moved him up to #21 more recently. Riggins is still a talented recruit but the fact the highest recruit in our class isn't top 20 overall should probably be concerning.

In reality our 2022 class is Franklin and Riggins. The other 8 guys are basically room guys or whatever term you like to use and should be using very little scholarship resources. If they are using more than very little we have problems. Only Franklin and Riggins are projected starters. I'm not saying none of the others are capable of rising to that level but if we are planning or counting on it then we are in trouble.

The highest recruit in the class needs to crack the top twenty. Or we’re back to crossing fingers on hoping to develop guys that can compete for second place.

There are significant indications that Gaitan doesn't end up at Baptist. I was hoping it stuck bc they could use a marquee name as they transition to wrestle DI next year. i guess we'll see.
Based on a vibe I'm getting and him coming to this event that he's in play for ISU.

Impossible because Dresser can’t recruit

If it was a sign of his recruiting he would have been in on him to begin with rather than getting him from Zalesky but there probably isn't much difference between him and the Brands when it comes to recruiting, he probably even has more vision. The biggest difference is the coaching after they get in house and it's no contest on that front in favor of Iowa.

Why wouldn't Iowa try to land him? Clearly better than Riggins right?
Gaitan is definitely a late bloomer. He won a state title this year after losing in the Sectional finals. This is his first time placing at state. Clearly he has developed very quickly. I would imagine that’s part of the reason he committed to Cal Baptist, that and the fact that it’s relatively close to his house.

This isn't making me feel better about the result. 😉
He lost at sectional final this year or previously? I see at state this year his semi was 3-1 and 2-1 TB2 in the final.

Five years into his time in Ames and a top ten finish looks like a dream.

I see the hype regarding Swidersky coming to Ames as a four timer. Aiden Reeves, anyone?

You're not far off.

BTW: Is there another opening at the CRTC? :D

He lost in the Southern Section Finals (CIF Masters) to Luke Gayer from Calvary Chapel this year. He avenged that loss in the state finals. He did not place in state in 2021 or 2020.

Swidersky is going to be very good. Comparing him to Reeves is laughable, but I’m sure that’s why you made it.
Actually, I'm laughing at the hype machine in Ames.

They got some kid from Michigan coming in that was guaranteed to be a freshman starter at 165/174.

After some recent loss, the realization has settled in that he's gonna need a redshirt.

One stud kid every other year for KD isn't enough to elevate them back to mediocrity.
