JoBo--the best freshman Iowa PG Ever? OR since Ronnie Lester (40 years ago!)???

i think he is getting there when it comes to scoring in the paint, which is where Mike often struggled

I think JoBo plays within himself; he is smart; he does not drive to the basket when it is likely to get swatted away like Mike always did

he is now averaging 9.4 ppg; not bad "scoring ability"

Bohannon has only scored 11 two-point baskets during Big 10 play. The good news is that he has hit about 42% of those shots, which is a big improvement from the non-conference schedule. However, he has yet to show a consistent ability to score within the three-point arc. If he wants to become a great scorer, he will need to learn how to score off the dribble and get to the foul line. However, even if he never becomes much of a threat to score inside the three-point line, he can still be a solid offensive threat because his three-point shooting has been that good.

Considering he is already better than Gesell, I think the only question is can he be better than Horner. So far, he seems more consistent. They both have very good range. He'll never be the rebounder that Horner was, and probably not the defender, but I love his mental toughness and quick release.

I think JayBo protects the ball better than Horner. Horner was always trying for the risky spectacular assist and turned the ball over at higher rate than
jayBo is showing.

Horner's Freshan 3pt shooting was aberration on poor side as he was very good the rest of his career. MG of course, never was much of a 3pt shooter.

Who is JayBo?

How does Jordan turn into Jay?

Careful now-if you point out that some Iowa players are better than others you'll be accused by some here of hating on the players that aren't as good.

Considering he's towards the top in Iowa history for assists for a freshman, pretty damn impressive for a fall back recruit don't you think! :D (Sorry, just had too!)

I kinda take recruiting with a grain of salt until they commit, especially after the Tyler Ulis fiasco.

I forget; when was JoBo finally offered by Iowa? I assume UNI offered way early. Did he accept Iowa's offer right away?

If Bohannon can hit a couple of buzzer beating game winners in back to back games in the BTT, then yes he's on his way to being better than Horner. ;)

P.S. It's too bad many of these BTT games aren't available on YouTube or elsewhere. Maybe CBS hasn't released the rights to the game, but I can't find any kind of video from the 2001 B10 Finals or some of Iowa's big tournament wins in the years after that.

The 2006 Finals against Ohio State is up, but that's about it.

I also take recruiting with a grain of salt......but I wait until they actually do something at Iowa before I give two sh**s.

No sense in getting hyped over kids who either sit on the bench for 3 years or end up transferring after one.

JoBo is on pace to reach at least 150 assists and 75 made three pointers. If he does so, he will join just 9 other players in the history of college basketball to do so.

Currently JoBo has 131 assists (4th in the B1G) and 68 made 3 pointers for the year. There is only one other player in the history of Iowa basketball, regardless of class, who has done that: Jeff Horner (he did it twice).

NOT BAD FOR A FALL BACK RECRUIT!!!

Gonna be tough to hit that 150 assists unless we make a B10 tourney run or make NIT. Only 3 'guaranteed' games left on the schedule....reasonable chance to hit >75 3s though.

From @iowahoops: Jordan (131) is 10 assists from becoming Iowa's single-season assists leader for a freshman (140 by Jeff Horner in 2003),

Bohannon is clearly one of the better freshman PGs at Iowa on offense. Whether he can significantly improve his on-ball defense and his ability to break down his opponent off the dribble and score or dish in the lane will determine whether he goes down as one of the greatest PGs in Iowa history. It should be fun to watch how he and the other young guys develop over the next few years.

And to think, some people think Bohannon isn't a point guard. Hmmm....

We clearly need to start more "Jordan Bohannon Sucks" threads.....seems like the more criticism he gets, the bigger he plays.....

Happy to say I was on his bandwagon on signing day. At my age its just good to still be able to pick a winner.

But seriously, everything about this kids says winner and gym rat. Has obviously improved his defense and floor awareness. There is no reason to think this is the plateau for Jordan. Just think how more effective he will be when the big boys and coaches figure out some good picks that allow Jordan to get a quick move into the lane. Those refinements come with more coaching and more time.

Another season in a good power and conditioning program will make him faster and quicker. Its hard not to see Jordan as a future star at his point in his young career.

Is their a list of how many minutes each player averaged per game. That can tweak a players worth up or down.

U CALLED IT!!!

>160 ASTs, >10ppg, >80 3s, and >40% 3PT%

He's not Lonzo Ball (>250 ASTs, 55% FG%), but hardly any players are that good. Every other Bohannon stat lines up pretty darn well with one of the best freshman PGs (Ball) in college BB.

Bohannon's stat line matches up pretty well with another 'short white guard' of yesteryear....John Stockton's sophomore stat line at Gonzaga. We all know how badly THAT guy sucked as an NBA guard:eek:...('course....Stockton was a 50-58% shooter, so Bohannon has a ways to go with that)
