Joe Weiskamp NBA next year?

I'm not sure after I saw him get dominated by Wagner.

Yeah...weezy couldn't get his shot off or guard either Wagner or Livers. I'd put both those guys ahead of Weezy on an All B1G team.

Livers was not much of a prospect last year, and he's moved his stock up a little. Weezy could move his NBA status up a little by staying another year or he could lose ground if his shooting tails off next year. I would love to be proven wrong, but I don't see him sticking in NBA...I see him getting a smell in NBA like Devyn Marble but he won't be able to stick to a roster long term.

Honestly, Keegan looks like the best NBA prospect on team. Smooth FT stroke. Can shoot 3ball and also finish at rim. He's one of those 6'8 guys that has lot of utility because he can guard almost anybody.

Weeze is a good player but I sort of chuckle when I hear if he is coming back or not ... Yes, he can make money overseas ... or G League but he's not seeing an NBA court in the near future. There are so many talented players vying for so few spots... Weeze is good but he needs to get stronger AND more consistent.

I love Joe. But he is not even a dominant college player. He "goes off" every once in a while, but only every once in a while.

He's probably the second most skilled offensive player on the team, and he averages 10.5 shots per game. He took 9 in the Michigan game - a game when points were very much needed. (BTW, CJ took 5)

Maybe he's tired of college basketball and wants to move on. Good for him. I just hope he's not dreaming of playing in the NBA. I just don't see it.
NBA draft isn't about who was a dominant college player. It's all about potential and how your game translates to the NBA. There have been lottery picks that didn't even average double digit points in college (Patrick Williams most recently). Wieskamp's length and shooting ability/form are highly desirable in the NBA. Just look at guys like Duncan Robinson, Cam Johnson, Joe Harris. Duncan Robinson was a 10ppg guy in college but when you have length and elite shooting ability there's a chance you can carve out a role in the NBA like he has. Weezy not a lock by any means but he's got a desirable profile for today's NBA game.

Conversely there have been plenty of dominant college players who fizzled out in the NBA because their game didn't translate. Unfortunately i think Garza likely falls in this category due to his lack of speed and athleticism, but we will see.

He is but his cons far outweigh his shooting imo. Being a big guy that isn’t athletic, can’t rebound, and guard is a big issue in the nba.
I know that Luka is not an athletic rebounder but to say he "Can't" rebound is stretching it. He plays every night against ranked teams and he's is one of ONLY three NCAA player in the last 25 years to average 24+ points and almost 9 rebounds a game, (8,5) . In total he's one of only three players in the last three decades of NCAA mens basketball to hit those numbers. The other two being Michael Beasley of KSU and Kevin Durant of Texas.

He’s 6’6” and a 50% high volume 3 point shooter. There’s a role for him in the NBA. He’s going to be a spot up shooter at the next level, one who can also guard a few positions and is a solid rebounder. He won’t be expected to create his shot at all. He’s a better college player than Joe Harris who has carved out a pretty big time role in the NBA.

Correct.

If you were smart which we've clearly already determined you arent, you would have said "yep, you nailed it and I'm a moron".

You being a moron isn't my fault, call your parents and tell them they failed (they're older, my guess is they already know, so probably best to pass and use the time to work on your sequined outfits).

His parents are in a coma.

Wieskamp gets intimidated & shut down in CBB by the good players.

I just don’t see anyway that he could compete with the athletes in the NBA. Especially mentally.
I don’t know, man. He’s a truly elite shooter. Not a plus athlete but really doesn’t have to be in the right situation.

I know dick about the NBA so I’ll defer to those who do.

He’s Gone! Highly coveted by NBA GM’s and Scouts. Some teams are talking mid to late first round. Your talking about a player that has very few plays being run for him and still is scoring at a high clip. Hes the #1 corner three point shooter in college basketball. His game is NBA ready, whether you wanna believe it or not that’s up to you, but he’s gone!

I‘ve had the pleasure of sitting courtside a couple times, it is absolutely unbelievable to see these guys up close. It‘s just unreal, TV doesn’t do their size and athleticism justice at all. Hopefully in the next 5-10 years VR will improve enough so that anyone can have that experience anytime.

I saw a bunch of NBA summer League players at LV airport. My daughter said that they did not look so big on TV. She was totally shocked when she saw them up close.

I love Weezy and what a great shooting touch! But being white, slow, relatively weak and unable to get open to shoot against good defense the NBA probably won’t be calling. As noted earlier in this thread, Wagner should have laid to rest any ideas of Joe leaving after this year.
I guess “white privilege” is a myth or are you saying the NBA is racist? Being white has nothing to do with it and the fact you can even say this is patently absurd.

Can you share those links?

He's better all around than Jok. Not sure if he's better than Utoff, Whitey or Marble. Iowa has never needed him to be the #1 guy and get 24 a game.

23 so far loves to weigh in on the state of the NBA while never watching. He's like the people who live in San Francisco in South Park.

It’s so frustrating talking nba with guys that know nothing about the nba. Then use the “back in my day.....” then goes down the path of thugs no defense. At least they are easy to spot out haha

“Back in my day blah blah blah...” Nothing like listening to a person start of stating “I have no idea about the subject at hand but let me tell you what I believe!!” #okboomer

My god, you punkass kids think you know everything. Any douche who ends with #okboomer, tells me that you aren't intelligent enough, or have reasonable argument to make your point. When you think loving Bruno Mars and weed make you cool, it tells me you still live in your mommy's basement and are 99% chance a beta boy.

FFS because you watched an NBA game one time, you still didn't stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night, so you are STILL not an NBA scout. Your opinion is yours, leave it at that junior.

Weiskamp reminds me of a D3 transfer to Michigan a few years ago: Duncan Robinson. Neither player has anywhere near the athletic ability of most NBA players, making them liabilites on defense, and both are excellent 3 point shooters. Yet Robinson has a place on an NBA roster, primarily because of his ability to drain 3s. One difference, though, and this might be enough to prevent Weiskamp from making it in the NBA, is that Robinson is two inches taller.

Joe seems to me to be a less athletic Dan Majerle. That is a similar role that he played in the NBA. Whether his game translates to a long term role, remains to be seen.

I agree that the NBA is about potential. You are right that some guys get drafted purely based on their ceiling.

Given Joe's height and speed, I think we're probably seeing close to his potential.

Anyway, I wish him the best. I don't think there is any way he will be drafted, but maybe he can get some time in the G League and find a spot one day.

Neither are locks but I could see both Weiskamp and Garza having some sort of NBA experience.

Garza's ticket to sticking in the league will be to be a stretch 5 like Enes Kanter and learn how to play defense in space a bit better by hedging and faking like Jokic does. He is not a lock. but would likely make someone's rotation if he can do both.

JW fits the NBA mold and will get a look. My guess is he will be moving off the ball a lot more than he does in our offense if he gets on the court.

I had seats on the court (folding chair) behind a basket during the Nuggets-Mavericks game a few years ago when Dallas was the no.1 team in the West.

We had to standup & they removed our chairs so Dallas could get to the locker room.

It was interesting because I’m 6’5 & I think I was only taller than Devon Harris (I think). And their coach Avery Johnson. Lol

More than their height it’s their build. You really don’t appreciate how built these guys are on tv. Dirk N was huge. Eric Dampier was a monster.

His height is enough to get his shot off in the league. Speed will only be a concern on defense, he just needs to be average on that side of the court. NBA teams aren't looking at him to go attack the rim or handle the ball, they would be interested because anyone who makes 3s at his rate with a quick release like he has could be a real weapon

How old do you have to be to call a 32 year old a punk ass kid? Man, you must be 69 years old plus. I bet you did enjoy that SSI raise tho!!

Weird, usually 32 yr old's don't act like a punk ass kid, but many do still live in mom's basement apparently, case in point. Nah "bruh", loving my 40's, I just grew up and learned to be a responsible MAN in my early 20's and quit being a boy acting like a high schooler when I graduated HS. You do you little fella, but maybe some day you will be a big boy like the rest of us.

Joe will be back next year,..Girlfriend is here in school, covid is still hampering normalcy and another season might get him a shot in the NBA,... And if not, a post covid Europe will still be there waiting for him.

@EvilMonkeyInTheCloset , have you not told all of these folks our guys are all coming back next year to defend their National Championship?
