Joe Weiskamp NBA next year?

I don't think his critics realize how good he has been this year. He is the only guard in the conference that with a shooting percentage above 50%. He is 6th overall and the only players above him are centers.
He is 3rd in Effective FG% above Garza and only behind Dickinson and Cockburn.
7th in TSP%
One of the top FT shooters.
49% on threes shooting 7 a game is ridiculous.
Top 15 in the conference in defensive rebounding and is above Garza.
Top ten in the conference in win shares
Top 7 in offensive win shares.
4th in offensive plus/minus (15th nationally) and 9th in overall
All of this.. will be difficult to improve on those numbers next year. Some seem to really be missing just how incredible his shooting has been this year.

I think Joe probably leaves but I think he should stay. If he returns, Coach will build the team around him and he might average 25+ points a game. He will be the number one option on offense. He can tighten up his handles and get stronger and extend his range. In short, he can make himself more desirable to the nba. He is not going to develop greatly in the G League.
Agree with this 100%. Joe needs to get stronger with the ball and learn to play through contact. I’m all for a guy pursuing his dream but he needs another year, IMO.

Hope he stays one more year. I think he can play even better than he has this year. Whether that’s here or elsewhere. Wish him the best. Right now he’s in the conversation for first team all big ten. He may get passed over but his stats do put him in the conversation.

If Duncan Robinson can find a spot, I'm not going to rule out Joe Wieskamp's landing on an NBA roster.

I do think he could help his chances if he came back and got stronger physically which would help him play better through contact. And if he could drastically reduce the times that he seems to disappear from a game.

But if he leaves after this season it wouldn't necessarily be a poor decision.

This is a given...whether he stays or leaves to play professional basketball somewhere, Iowa will put 5 players on the court and will finish between 9th and 4th in the BIG next year. That's about Iowa's ceiling every year they play under Fran...

So, should we start ragging about next year's team now to avoid the rush? I know we can count on you to do your part.

Duncan Robinson is a much better player than he was at Michigan. Plus he took a very unlikely road to the NBA, only getting a summer league invite where he shot lights out segueing to a two-way contract with the Heat where a bunch of people in front of him got hurt.

Duncan Robinson is surely a more talented player now than he was at Michigan.. everyone should get better when they make the sport their profession. However, the true reason for his success at the next level is that he does 1 thing incredibly well: 3pt shooting. 86% of his career NBA FG attempts have been from 3. Wieskamp is one of if not the most prolific 3pt shooters in the country this year and I would argue is much more talented and versatile than DRob ever was in college. When you can shoot it at a world class level in high volumes you have a chance in the league.

I do agree there is somw luck involved when you aren't a first round pick because u need a good opportunity/situation. However, if Wieskamp isn't viewed as a first round pick now I don't think he will be next year either.. similar to Garza.

He doen't need another year at Iowa. A year in the GL would prepare him more than a year at Iowa, especially if he signs with a good org.

A lot of making the NBA once you go pro is based on your own work ethic and also if you can sign with a good org like Robinson did with the Heat or like Matt Thomas did with the Raptors. Teams that try and really develop their GL guys.

Now you have the stats and me saying youre an idiot. You can find 100 players with similar stats. Europe is calling.Done yet?

Crazy look at those stats. He's fallen from 86% at the free throw line to 68% this year! That is a puzzler. Given how much more he's driving he could be adding 2 points /game to his average of 15.3/game if he was hitting high 85%.

Proves point even more in that the top 20 included only FR and Soph and International with zero JRs, meaning there will another 10-20 of these types ahead of those JR, Sr that are clearly ahead of Wieskamp.

he’s probably not a top 80 pick

Yes, Juniors that can’t make the honorable mention don’t make the NBA

Weezy usually disappears in big games/. Thats because he has a really good player on him. NBA is full of those type of players

Yeah and the nba is full of guys who dribble the ball into the paint and shift the defense to allow guys like Joe open shots.

He'll never be asked to create a shot in the nba, just space and wait for the pass.

It will depend on if he can defend well enough.

Cam Johnson #11 overall pick of the 2019 draft was a 5th year senior who had undergone multiple knee surgeries and had no All American honors. He was a lottery pick though because he shot 46% from 3 his final year of college.

Cam Johnson 2019 5th yr SR: 16.9 pts, 5.8 rebs, 2.4 asst, 51% FG, 46% 3pt on a team that was a 1 seed

Wieskamp current junior year (2 years younger than Johnson final year): 14.7 pts, 6.6 rebs, 1.5 asst, 50% FG, 47% 3pt on a team that is a 2 seed

Are we watching the same NBA? Traveling is a fundamental part of Basketball and NBA players do it all the time with no call.

I'm sure these are other stock quotes you have about the Association..."It's all one-on-one. The players don't try. It used to be so much better. They don't play D."

Yup every night. It’s crazy that people that don’t watch the NBA think all players lose the fundamentals once they get to the highest league in the world for their sport.

Correct. All-conference teams or college stats don't matter really one bit, other than teams want to see a good 3-point % for a wing player. Whether or not Wieskamp comes back is really down to whether he's ready to just not be in college anymore. Playing another year at Iowa (barring an injury) neither really improves nor hurts his NBA chances. He will have the same strong points and weaknesses next year. There's almost zero chance that he improves his shooting numbers from this year. Shooting 50% from 3-point range is very difficult.

If it were me, if I'd gone 3 years into college and I'm not guaranteed to be a first round pick, I'm going back to college for the 4th year and get my degree. Perhaps he already has the degree, or will this spring. But that would just be me.

I would see his chances at making it in the NBA being a combination of patience and luck. Guys like Wieskamp will need a break, and if/when they get it he will have to shoot lights out. If he doesn't, the team will move on to the next tall wing who can shoot.
