Judge Allows San Jose State Transgender Volleyball Player to Compete

Is this player a key performer on the team? I have no idea, but that seems important to the discussion.

Fleming has been a star for the Spartans in the matches played this season, averaging 3.86 kills per serve, which ranks third in the Mountain West.

Yep, then it is certainly relevant and deserves to be resolved. I don’t particularly care where the line is, but they’ll need to draw one at some point. Ideally it gets determined at the NCAA level probably.

Science says they can't find a measurable athletic advantage. I've posted study after study covering this. Provided they are past the two year transitioning mark they can't find conclusive athletic advantage. I'm all for bans up to two years, because they can find an advantage. But past two years it appears to disappear.

And since the trans athlete in this case started transitioning in her early teens there is likely no test to find a measurable advantage. Now if they can find such a test that is peer reviewed, and it finds she still has a male advantage, then ban her. But if you can't find such a test then she should stay.
This is utter bullshit and you know it. Flies in the face of all logic. Leah Thomas has no advantage ? Ryan mulvey from the men’s team will barely play a minute. If he transitions, after two years he would be the greatest women’s player alive.

Plus Huey never mentions women taking testosterone to transition to male. They still compete in women’s sports for some reason. I wonder why that is.
Also. Take the best women’s basketball player Ajai Wilson, if she takes testosterone, she is not playing men’s d2 basketball.
Some things are not the same just because you really want them to be.
this conversation is why some will hold their nose and vote for trump.
The stupidity must stop.

The NCAA sets the guidelines to compete. I'm somewhat confident that the regulations will be reviewed at the end of the season again. It's highly unlikely in my opinion that transgender athletes will be allowed going forward.

With that said, she is a good player on an OK team, she's not their top player. She wouldn't come close to making it on a top program like Nebraska. People love to claim she is a danger to other players, but Nebraska likely has 6 players that hit as hard or harder. FWIW, Nebraska uses guys in practice and scrimmage.

Yeah, I agree it's harder. Although you still have to wonder about the timecourse of their development. Built like a dude.
Seriously, if you didn’t know she was transgendered you would have no clue. This is a case likely due to the age when she started where there is likely minimum to no benefit one way or another. It sucks her team captain is against her.

If only there were some obvious line not to cross. Something that you wouldn't even need an agency to rule on. Feels like it's right there, and we're just missing it.

Give us an example.

Give us an example when the woman took a man's spot.

Doesn’t seem like any of them are dominating the way Lia Thomas did. Thomas went from an average male D1 athlete to champion “female” athlete. Sure…no advantage there at all 🙄

But they care about women unlike republicans, just ask any democrat. Yet they can’t ever tell you how this supports women.
They only care about themselves. If you aren’t in their cult, you’re nothing to them.
The ones defending this can't even define what a woman is without a circular definition. One of the most important doctrines of the cult is that they must project their fake virtue to the world as obnoxiously as possible. Screaming about how good of a person you are is more important than being a good person to these people.
San Jose can't play if there is no competition,.. opposing teams should simply refuse to take the court,.. phuck this judge.
100% this.

This happens all the time in college. Athletes struggle their freshmen season then turn into beasts by their senior seasons. Your anecdotal evidence sucks.

Or, he went and competed with a class that has obviously lower times to beat them and steal their glory.

Ok, most notable would be Chris Mosier. Competed in events for team USA. Kyle Alums played Division I basketball at George Washington. Schuyler Bailer was a Division I swimmer.

Others include, Mack Beggs (wrestling), Harrison Brown (ice hockey) , Balian Buschbaum (pole vault), Willy De Bruijn (cycling), Andreas Krieger (shot put), Erik Schninegger (skiing), Patricio Manuel (boxing).

One of the dumbest most outrageous posts I've ever read on here. Lia Thomas was not a skilled swimmer and Lia's times were still right on line as when racing against males.

Only a winner because of going against slower female times.

Thread is proof that the trans phobes are just basing this on feelings. The actual studies get completely ignored and the haters keep blowing their gaskets that the world is somehow collapsing over this one issue.
If I were forced to undergo the same "treatment" as this volleyball player when I was a teen, I would still be a man. I would still live my life as a man. I would still state that I am a man. This "treatment" would not have turned me into a woman.

Would you say that I should be allowed to play for this volleyball team, since I have been properly disabled? If not, what's the difference between me and this volleyball player? Only that he asserts that he is a woman. He "feels" that he is a woman. Heck, he doesn't even have to "feel" he is a woman; he simply has to proclaim that he is a woman.

That's not science; that's feelings. And it's BS.

I'm not a transphobe; I'm not afraid of him. He is perfectly allowed to live his delusional life out as he wishes, and few would care.

However, he is not entitled to play women's sports, because the reality is he's not a woman.

People may not like hearing this but "feelings" is the only real argument to keep trans women out of women's athletics. Because it surely isn't science.

You can be done with it as much as you want. The science says there is no athletic advantage. So at this point, you're basing this on feelings instead of science.
Feel free to post “the science”. Because Huey wants it to be so is not science.

now imagine if a female transitioning to male were competing against other females.... that happens too. These 2 are rare stories compared to men to women or women taking hormones to become male that still compete against females.
No one is worried about this trans person taking a males spot or a fencing spot. Because they are at least competing up, where they should be.
Find a sport where muscle mass and size matter.

I'd bet:
1. Virtually everyone on this board is ok with an adult choosing to change their gender through hormone therapy.
2. The vast majority is against puberty blockers for minors. (outside some weird ideologues).
3. No one here has a problem with a transgender competing in the same division as males.
4. Most have a problem with former males or females taking male hormones, competing against women.
These are not controversial illogical takes.

Why didn't Thomas simply keep competing as a man?

Where would Thomas have placed against men if using his best times as a woman?

Bottom line is Title IX is supposed to guarantee equal opportunity for women. A man taking a woman's spot adds a man and takes away a woman for a net loss of 2 for women.

I understand your concern, but none of these proposed bathroom/high school sports changes prevent that happening and the sex at birth bathroom proposals actually make things worse. In college sports I imagine there might be some drug testing, but I really don't know.

She was skilled enough to be on the men's team. Your argument sucks. It's like claiming the Keegan Murray did something illegal to go from a bench option his freshman year to one of the best players in the nation the very next year. It's like you don't understand sports. Vast improvements are quite common.

Because she transitioned into a female. Kinda self explanatory.

What if he starts to doubt midseason that he's a woman? What if he starts to think, "Maybe I've made a mistake?" Is he still a woman? Should he still be permitted to play?

What if he outright feels that he's made a terrible mistake and comes to realize he really is a man? But he doesn't tell anyone until after he's graduated? Did he stop being a woman when he admitted this to himself? Would you say it was unethical that he continued to play?
