Kevin Warren's political priorites ride shotgun

Or federal republic. You do realize a republic is vastly different than a democracy don’t you?......never mind don’t answer that.
You understand that some things are also ruled by a democracy in this country, right? Also, are elected officials are ele
We have a democratic style but technically we live in a republic. You should really brush up on your American History.
Yes, I understand that. There really isn’t a form of true democracy in a country. Switzerland is the closest we have.

Someone got on google and learned a couple things after laughing at me when I told you we were not a democracy. Get back on google and tell me what’s wrong with your statement that some things are ruled by a democracy in our country.

It’s only political if you view empowering young people, especially young minorities, to vote is a bad thing.

A bunch of hawks went to a Trump rally. They can vote, too.

Everyone can vote. No one is keeping anyone from voting. Most young people don't give a damn about voting. Actually it is demeaning for the B1G commissioner to essentially imply that young blacks are to incapable of voting.

Nobody wants to address the numbers I put in this thread earlier? Figured I’d be called a liar (more like a dumbass liar, boot licker, comrade, etc by the looks of this thread) but nobody has time to discuss /debate data and the risks to college athletes?

This an incredible video. They are saying what I said in an earlier post and was chided on this board by those on the left. I will say it again as do these reporters, what will be safe for BIG football in January vs October? Nothing. The only thing that will have changed is that the election will be over. I hate to believe that we now have to bring politics into college sports but it appears this new BIG commish has done it. This football forum is a good example of some in our society that feel they have to view EVERYTHING thru an anti Trump lens. Commish, do your job and get out of the politics business, if you can't separate those two then quit........

There's nothing to address. Anybody with functioning synapses realizes the COVID risk to those under age 25 is negligble. There are clearly many everyday life occurrences that people take for granted, yet represent a bigger risk than COVID for college age athletes.

It's all #fearporn spread by #coronabros

If MS is still paying FB his son is an adult and has made his choice to play. Might not be what Warren wants but respects his sons decision.
Reverse the scenario and say that Warren was the head of the SEC conference and he shut it down. His son is playing in the Big 10 which is not. His son made an adult decision to play. You can't hang that on Warren at all.
He might not be happy either way but that is the way it is.
His son is 21, if the Register writer (who wants football BTW) is correct.

Anyone with half a brain can figure out what his primary objective is. Inexcusable for this to happen - guy should be shitcanned immediately

“I’m going to personally empower student-athletes to express their right to free speech and peaceful protest,” - Warren

Warren said the conference’s new coalition fits “hand in hand” with the voter registration drive that seeks to make sure every Big Ten athlete is registered to vote for the Nov. 3 presidential election.

"Warren is in just his fifth month in charge of the 14-member league, and he’s made it clear with his early actions that social change will be among the league’s priorities." - Pete Thamel, Yahoo Sports

“I believe in any year, but especially this year and especially where we are as a society, that voting is the top way to influence issues that are going on from a social justice or social injustice standpoint,” he said. “We want to do everything we can to encourage others to vote, to vote ourselves and to make sure that we don’t allow voter suppression to occur.” - Warren

"The hate that we have in our communities and the racism that’s occurred, it can’t go on any longer.” - Warren

Additional comments:

Big hit a home run..
1) hire a sjw
2) preferably an idiot who prob can’t even balance a checkbook
3) make sure he has a conflict of interest (son in sec)
4) make he is not only stupid, but has an inferiority complex.. maybe he can have plaques nailed all over his office wall

Some of you people need to take a break. All the hatred and conspiracy thoughts can't be helpful. I see Warren is the punching bag this week for the "I demand things back to normal, you're just trying to hurt trump" people. Before him it was educators. Some of you are making OiT seem normal.

Warren is this weeks punching bag for the "I'm a science-denier who requires a nanny state to protect me from life's risks" crowd. it could have just as easily been you, except thankfully, you have no authority to inflict harm on others the way Warren does.

I know it makes you feel better to have someone to blame, but people like you really should try to relax and take a break. You'll go nuts with all the conspiracy sh!t. I'm being totally honest. I've seen people who have dreamed in their head that there's a conspiracy going on. Once they able to do it for one topic, it's not long before they start seeing conspiracies in other situations. When too much of that happens, they either embrace conspiracies (like OiT) or they can't handle it and they start experiencing mental problems like anxiety.

Just to be clear with you, I want college football, one of my kids in on campus, so I'm not asking anyone to protect me from life's risks. I just understand there have been decision (and there will be more decisions) that I don't agree with but I understand these decisions aren't easy so I accept them. There won't be anyone more upset than me if we don't see Garza playing this year.

If you want to invent straw men, be my guest, but I never said anything about a conspiracy.

Is there any tale of flying pigs so absurd it can't be used to exploit you?

You're the one who replied to my original post where I mentioned people thinking it was conspiracy. If my post didn't apply to you, then don't respond, it's that simple.

Warren is a clown and botched this from the start. He’s shown zero leadership, and I don’t have faith he will moving forward.

I'm not hear to defend Warren but lets be clear, you have very little credibility on these boards with all the garbage you post so your opinion means nothing as far as I'm concerned.

Where you mentioned people thinking it was a conspiracy theory?

Your post also mentioned a cartoonishly absurd rationale for why Warren has become a punching bag (some might even say a conspiracy theory). That's the part I responded to, just in cse you missed it.

One thing is for sure - if the other conferences press forward and successfully play a season, my longtime BIG favortism will be out the window if Warren remains in charge.

Unless Iowa is playing, I will no longer give two shits who wins conference vs conference games

I told you that once you start seeing conspiracy theories you start to see them with other topics. Now you're seeing them in other people's posts. Listen, you might not be posting where this is political but there have been a number of posters saying it. Some posters think there's some big plan to hurt trump by missing out on millions. That's some crazy thinking.

I think you're just frustrated and that will change once games start again.

That's especially true when you hallucinate of conspiracy theories that don't exist, and imagine it must be a conspiracy that others laugh at the invisible conspiracy theories you think you see.

Fair enough. What input could the students provide which would make it safer to play football this Fall? I hope you know something that I've missed because the idea of no Hawkeye Football this year is killing me.

That's the wrong question. When the presidents and commissioner are the ones taking away something that is a usual course of action (a college FB season) it's on them to show why they are taking that away. It's not on the players to prove that it's safe. They did what they could all summer by adhering to the practice protocols, being tested, avoiding large gatherings, etc.

It's on the leaders to demonstrate why a normal activity is not going to take place. Just saying "it's unsafe" without any real explanation is the issue.

I don't really laugh at other's conspiracies, I'm more concerned about it because it can be damaging for them. To think the B10 commissioner is doing this for political reasons is just odd. Anyone who feels that way should take a break.

That would be the AD’s and they were not even brought on to speak to the Presidents. Their advocate was the Commissioner.

Indeed, one should be careful about attributing to malice that which can be readily explained by good old fashioned incompetence. However, the possibility that Warren is a social justice warrior masquerading as a collegiate athletic conference commissioner is equally plausible. Given all the data on the negligible COVID risks to college age athletes, coupled with the total lack of transparency regarding the decision to cancel, along with his own politicized comments, possibly more plausible.

And when defending incompetence becomes your mantra, then nothing is possible. I have no doubt that is going to work out terribly for you.

So this is where we are at. All most people are asking for is the why, beyond "it's unsafe." And all that comes back is "we determined it's unsafe." The AD's, coaches can see the data that shows likelihood of death from COVID for that age group is very similar to influenza, and basically a non-risk for the players from a statistical standpoint given that most of the COVID deaths in the age group had serious other medical conditions. It doesn't mean zero risk, it means similar to other risks they are subjected to every influenza season.

If there is data and science to show why it's any more unsafe from a COVID standpoint for college players to play football than to not play football, it's not too much to ask to see the information. So yes, when no answers are forthcoming people are left with other logical explanation. The only one that makes any sense to me is that there was never any intent to play football this fall in the Big 10. Why that decision was made many months ago, I have no idea.

@SB_SB this is what a reasonable, well thought out post looks like. You should try it some time.

I was referring to posters who have been claiming this was politically motivated. If you're not one of those posters, then don't worry about my post. It just seems like people are becoming so crazy about this that they're having to make it part of a larger discussion.

This must be your first day on the board, welcome. Just FYI, he posted the same boring argument that's been posted a million times, no matter if we're talking about opening schools or playing football, or anything else. And I'll give the usually well thought out response to his statement. Blah, Blah, it's just the flu, Blah Blah.
