Kirk Ferentz makes an over rated list.

I've always wondered about all that success. So did Meyer build Utah in his only two seasons there or was it McBride who wikipedia credits as laying the foundation for Utah's future success. Of course then Meyer goes to Florida and plays for a couple of titles with Zooks players. Don't kid yourself either, Zook was a great recruiter. So how did Urbans departure from the Gators go again? Oh heah he had health problems and wanted to spend more time with his family. I suppose it had nothing to do with the program headed south and all the players on the police blotter? He got out while his reputation was still intact, and low and behold with in months he was all better and fell into one of the sweetest jobs in college football and the Gators have never been quite the same. So he gets credit for winning big at schools he was only at for a year or two with someone elses players, but not the blame for the program that fell apart after he left? Like the Iowa motto says, "Leave the jersey in a better place". Is that what Meyer has done?

Wow...Are we really talking about Florida??? To my knowledge, the 2006 Championship that Meyer won(that hurts because it was at the expense of my Buckeyes)was a mix of his recruits and the leftover Zook recruits. Now the 2008 Natty with Florida was all Meyer recruits for the most part(Tebow, Harvin, Joe Haden etc.) Now , I know things got out of control at Florida and he stepped down, but I really don't care about what happened at Florida, Utah or Bowling Green, I'm glad Meyer is the coach at OSU and you should be happy that KF is the coach at Iowa......

Urban is a great coach. He's also a smarmy person. Lot's of examples. One of my favorites was, I believe his first year, when you beat Michigan. A player got ejected for fighting. And gave the double salute to Michigan fans on National TV. Urban said he would take care of it. Of course the player started the next week.

That wouldn't happen under KF. And the Iowa fans wouldn't tolerate it. Maybe it's why Iowa will always be a mediocre program with some great years here and there. Winning isn't everything.

Thats fine that you don't care about what he did at his previous stops. I don't really care either other then in the context of the resume people try to build for him. I'm just not sold that he hasn't been as much extremely fortunate as much as what he's actually done. I think his departure from Florida says a lot about his character, (or lack there of). Thats all. Worked out great for OSU I guess. Its just been my point that OSU may have had similar success with any number of coaches they could have hired, but thats just IMHO I guess.

Wouldn't use "overrated" to describe Captain Kirk.
Overpaid, definitely.
In so much as that should be determined by the people writing the check, why do so many feel the need to weigh in on this subject? I might think that some dumb a-- writer who sits at his computer and makes up these overated and overpaid lists is hardly qualified to put such groundless statements out for public consumption, but it really doesn't matter does it, because I'm not paying him to write his drivel.......

Is KF the finest coach in America? No, of course not.

Is KF overpaid? Who the hell cares? If he made $3 million would that change anyone's opinion about him?

Is KF a good fit for Iowa and are we fortunate to have him? Absolutely. If it weren't for HF & KF, Iowa would be rotating coaching staffs every 4 or 5 years and I am certain the overall result would be no better.

A lot of Iowa fans think he is overrated. It just depends on what you’re looking for from your coach. If you’re using records like Farrell, yeah he might be overrated.

But if you look at intangibles like drafted players, role model, stand up guy; he is underrated.
He also has a State 3.0 million people and two division 1 Universities as his home recruiting ground. He does a great job Considering how tough Iowa is to recruit to!

Considering that 11 Big Ten coaches are at $3M or above now and Ferentz is a distant 4th on the list, I wouldn't say he's over paid relative to his peers. Now if you want to argue that all coaches are overpaid, than that is another discussion.

Him staying at Iowa is as much of a fantasy as him actually coming here so it’s hypothetical. If he came to Iowa right now and stayed until retirement, Iowa would average a heck of a lot more than 8 wins IMO.
Agree, but also think team will average more than 8 wins over next 5 years regardless. Staff has done great job of assembling a pretty darn good roster.
