Kreiner quote

Not sure I like the mentality of this quote. I like kriener. However that quote shows no drive or desire to improve. Kind of reminds me of when players are looking at refs for a call when the play is still live. Not sure if that mentality comes from the coaching staff—-I’d like to see more we’re proud of ourselves and we still have a lot we can improve on.
I missed where he even remotely suggested that they don't have anything to improve on. Where was that in his quote?

Total BS! I was fighting for my country with whole lot of other 19/20 year old soldiers in Viet Nam. We had no choice in some instances and did not cry like a bunch of babies when we were drafted. We trained (4 1/2 whole months) and went to war for our country and some of us would never be able to play sports again when we were released from hospitals. Give me a break these young men are adults!!

First, let me thank you for your service. This country owes a ton to your generation and others who served fighting. Thank you :)

As to your comment, I'm speaking from the experience of a teacher and coach. I see what sorts of expectations are handed to kids (of all ages) today...a lot that is different from when you and I were growing up. Constant hardcore testing, consequences for not reaching grade level, teachers/coaches who dont have the best interest in the kids they serve.

One of the reasons why I do what I do is because I want to prepare this next generation to be what I wasnt during my college years...mentally tough. I dont know why, but this generation of kids just wilt when faced with any sort of adversity. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that this team really struggles with toughness. Given the pattern of late season swoons under McCaffrey, my experience tells me that he isnt providing the type of support to foster a growth in toughness. I believe he yells too much and the players simply dont respond to it.

There is a way to make young adults mentally tough, hold them accountable, and motivate them without the constant fear of yelling and screaming .

I dont disagree with the majority of people in this thread...outside those who chose to degrade people behind a technology screen. However, I do think people need to start looking at the bigger picture. It's a long season, teams get tired...probably sick of each other. They are student/athletes that come with a lot of baggage. The difference between Iowa and others...it might be a simple as who is setting the example at the top. After all..toughness is a reflection of leadership.

They have GOT to stop giving the outside noise attention. Control what you can control. Can’t believe they even acknowledge it.

Yes it's hard to believe they can even give a crap about what anyone says outside the program. I mean really. Most fans really appreciate the improvement that was made this year. But is it okay if there's bewilderment about the collapse at the end of the year? Or are we only allowed to have opinions that are 100% positive?

My own personal opinion is that the gas came off the collective pedal after the Michigan game. Perhaps this team has one more run of good play in it. We'll find out Friday.

Is America raising a generation that base their sole value from social media posts? Posts that may or may not even be from their own fans. It’s really quite sad.

There is actually a lot of research being done on this. They are finding suicide rates, depression, anxiety, social anxiety and other issues are increasing every year because of social media use and cell phone dependance.

I have been shocked at the negative comments on “official” news releases on twitter and Facebook. I imagine it happens with a lot of teams, but it is sad.

From Sherman Dillard on Twitter.
At the risk of coming across as Captain Obvious, this is a toxic world we live in today. Not sure why the rush to rain on someone else’s parade. Remember this... Someone else’s opinion of you is none of your business. “Keep your head to the sky” (EWF)

I disagree I think the fans would complain about what could have been if they would have won 5 of those first 6 games. Let’s get real...many fans just can’t be happy no matter what the team does unless they go undefeated!

To say wins and losses dont have an effect on whether people complain or not is just beyond stupid.

Seriously? Kriener only says that the team exceeded expectations of the so-called experts. You read a whole bunch into that quote that is not there.

What I can not imagine is a grown up man being so pathetically impacted by a quote from a player that he is moved to reveal what an ass he is by disparaging the player for his remarks. Congratulations on not only being such an ass, but for removing any and all doubt that you are such an ass. It is a game. It is only a game. Most people do not measure their personal self worth based on how a bunch of you men play a game. Those who do are the mentally weak minded fans who have become the standard for Iowa fans for decades going back to Lute's time and before that. Just pathetic.
LOL.

I'm not impacted at all. I just think it's pathetic. I'm aware it's a game. It's a game that many, many other players would love to be playing at this level. I would hope they would lose the victim attitude when they get that shot and realize this "game" is a billion dollar business and their coach is making millions looking like an idiot on the sideline.

Trust me, this is pretty far down the list of things I'm concerned about, as is this basketball team. Based on what Carver's looked like for the better part of a decade, I'm far from the only one.

I think if you go back to pre-season there were a lot of quotes from the players about wanting to prove last year was an anomaly and that they are better. It seemed like that fueled them in NYC, against ISU and in the non-conference and then the start to the B1G deflated the balloon a bit. They were able to right themselves and get back on track and then maybe a bit too much of losing that edge....long season and they are students as well as athletes so it's understandable. However the end to the season was not representative of a team who wanted to prove something.

This team has a lot of offensive-minded players and few, if any guys whose calling card is defense. When guys struggle on offense their defense struggles also. Having played a lot of basketball I get it. When I was making shots I felt energized and couldn't wait to get back on offense so I played better defense. When shots were not falling I felt a bit of suck factor set in and it showed.

Mentally this team has to figure out two things: 1) How to not get blitzed on 10-0 runs. Fran needs to call a TO, Moss, JW or somebody needs to drive it and minimally get to the line. Jacking hurried / bad 3's has to stop (Garza in particular). 2) Guys have to play tougher D by doing the little things. If you are going to foul do it so the guy can't get the ball to the rim OR let the guy go if they are beat and don't give a touch foul And 1 and block out like it's your Iphone you are protecting. I would rather see fouls called on Iowa for aggressively blocking out than letting teams push them under the hoop.

"...So, to have an undefeated non-conference, 22 wins, it actually baffles me how people can bash us and say all the things they say about us when we had the type of turnaround we did.”

Not a single mention of working to get better or correct the epic failure of the last month. They went undefeated in non-con by playing a joke schedule and Iowa State without 2 starters and they want a pat on the back for it.

Basically saying "what we did was good enough, who cares about the end of season collapse (which is a reoccurring thing with Fran's teams)? Stop being so mean to us and questioning why we fell apart, again. We're better than that crap team last year, which was pitiful to watch, so be grateful."

It's a losers attitude and the all to common "victim attitude" you see from our basketball teams. You'd never see one of our football players say this, thank god. They're also too busy actually winning something once in a while.

Lol, good one. You seem clever to clever for your own good..why posting stupid shit? Probably get your ass beat say that to anyone with a pulse.. Are you one of the players? Lol, enjoy selling insurance.

I'm retired AF, and now have another job that helps me do the things in life I want...Proud of it to. Probably done and seen more shit then you ever will....

Go be happy with the status quo...

You must be average...

Nope, you are average...

..and must like the color pink...
holy crap this is a lot to unpack. The poster message flew way over your head.
Did you not catch that the poster is NOT happy with the status quo?? Just like you are not? That he agrees with you?

He used the wife and boss analogy as an example that is similar to the perceived thought by Kriener and, yourself and himself not agreeing with acceptance of status quo but explaining how it could be tolerated. Not saying it is about you or anyone else in particular.

And, yet, here you are trashing the game as if it was serious. Dude, you are whacked.

Nah, not trashing the game at all. College basketball is pretty great. Especially when a team actually has a true point guard and attempts to play defense for more than 10 minutes a game.

I'm "trashing" the pathetic bunker mentality comment this thread is about, and would be for any other P5 conference player who made the comment. This "woe is me" attitude/stench Fran has instilled in the program is a joke.

More likely Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube.

Nobody but 30+ year old men are even aware message boards exist.
lol it's sad when saying I'm older than the internet makes me sound old, even though I'm in my thirties. I miss the days when websites were made with HTML, and notifications saying "Page best viewed in 800x600 with Netscape Navigator."

I would have been happy with the season if we had shown up to play for all of the games. There wasn't a lot of reason to be upset with the record, but in most of the losses, Iowa played like crap. Hopefully, we will see some consistency of execution and effort next year. I think the talent is definitely there to finish in the top half of the B1G, and potentially even better.

Believe what you want old timer, I watch every basketball (yes even through the lickliter years) and football game and go to as many as I can. If you like mediocrity than that’s on you but I prefer to win and not have a mindset of “well we did better than what some publication predicted us at so be happy”
So why do you continue to watch "mediocrity"? That's all you've seen in you're life time, correct?

Trust me I know kids are soft today I have grandchildren. But, they are soft because they are not expected to be adults.
Soooo that would be your fault? You're the guy that raised one of the kids that raised your grandkids.

Actually that is my daughter's son. And if, you are so naïve to think it is uncommon today you might want to become more informed. also, they are all are hard workers and have been their whole life, but the expectations outside the home also at work unfortunately. Since you are so opinionated about other folks kids do you have any? If so, probably disrespectful like you?
