Kreiner quote

They are grown men who are being taught by Fran on and off the court. It says a lot about how they take criticism as a team and their mind set. Again Fran and his teams are mental midgets until proven otherwise.
I don’t know how old you are but if you think 18 to 22 year olds are grown men than I assume you’re close to their age.

If they can go to war and make adult decisions then they are grown men. Stop coddling these athletes, if criticism from a fan base that supports a university that gives them a free ride to college is hurting their feelings then they have it pretty well off. #firstworldproblems

Keep drinking the kool aid. I love the hawks and cheer for them no matter what but let’s be real about the situation
You don’t love the hawks or you wouldn’t pound on them like you’re doing. I’m not a kool aid drinker I’m a 40 year Hawkeye fan that has seen many seasons far worse than this one. I remember fans like you driving out Dr. Tom and than putting up with basketball that truly sucked for years. If you can’t be happy with 22 wins you wouldn’t be happy with 25 wins. As you see I don’t have much respect for fair weather fans.

What I can not imagine is a grown up man being so pathetically impacted by a quote from a player that he is moved to reveal what an ass he is by disparaging the player for his remarks. Congratulations on not only being such an ass, but for removing any and all doubt that you are such an ass. It is a game. It is only a game. Most people do not measure their personal self worth based on how a bunch of you men play a game. Those who do are the mentally weak minded fans who have become the standard for Iowa fans for decades going back to Lute's time and before that. Just pathetic.
That's why threads like these help me reduce the posters I see with the type of mentally I'm not ever interested in reading.

Believe what you want old timer, I watch every basketball (yes even through the lickliter years) and football game and go to as many as I can. If you like mediocrity than that’s on you but I prefer to win and not have a mindset of “well we did better than what some publication predicted us at so be happy”

The team just needs to stay off social media from the start of the season to the end of the season and then they won't be bothered by what people say

It’s only a game. Why do athletic programs pay a coach millions and recruit athletes with full ride scholarships and all the attached benefits.
Crazy to act like athletes have thin skins and fans shouldn’t call out poor performance. That is how you raise a generation of weakness. The play of this team is unacceptable and embarrassing. To say anything less is why we are where we are.

You don’t have a clue how hard it is to win in any sport that the competition wants to win just as much as you and has talent close to yours. I’ll go back to Lute Olsen when he left that he said the fans became too hard to please. He then went to Arizona and created the same monster their. I’ve seen this movie many times.

I disagree I think the fans would complain about what could have been if they would have won 5 of those first 6 games. Let’s get real...many fans just can’t be happy no matter what the team does unless they go undefeated!
Puhlease! Drama Queen much?

Wow! I am so happy with our basketball program. I love being beat by Wisconsin year in and out. I love to watch our defense give up 50% FG percentage. I love watching the Hawks get beat by 20 points. I love watching them not reach the BIG tournament final four under Fran nine consecutive seasons and I love seeing our current youth get participation trophies. I bet you guys that miss the great years of Hawkeye basketball see where I am going with this.

There are much better basketball programs than Iowa’s and always will be. Maybe your life would be happier if you became a fan of one of those. I can recommend a few if you decide to go that route.

It's not any different than your wife and boss still putting up with you. They have settled for a loser for many years and now there okay with it....:p
Lol, good one. You seem clever to clever for your own good..why posting stupid shit? Probably get your ass beat say that to anyone with a pulse.. Are you one of the players? Lol, enjoy selling insurance.

I'm retired AF, and now have another job that helps me do the things in life I want...Proud of it to. Probably done and seen more shit then you ever will....

Go be happy with the status quo...

You must be average...

Nope, you are average...

..and must like the color pink...

You must be enjoying these last few weeks. S&M?

I'll share with many of you younger than 30 that it gets easier as you get older! When you take 3 steps back and understand the landscape of college basketball, the filth that is the NCAA and cheating etc., the complete lack of purity that most of us believed growing up many years ago, you become a bit more jaded and also resigned to things never being as good as you hope but also never as bad as perceived either. Iowa is a decent middle of the pack Big Ten program and has a history of some success. To think we are Duke, Kansas, UNC and Michigan is a pipe dream. Never have been so and never will be.

But, we can win and have success, at least at the ISU level, the Wisconsin level, etc. It's been done. We need more consistency but we also need fans that understand some history, some reality and truly support the program.

The game is emotional and it creates huge ups/downs. We act like crazy humans over this stuff and vent on a message board for $99! Can you imagine if you were a player or coach that eats and breathes this 24/7 with your livelihood and/or your schooling/career tied up in this? You some how think they don't want it more than a few on the board?

I have started to grow up. I was just as crazy in my 20's, 30's, etc. But life experiences, maturity and reality start to make fandom a bit clearer as we age. Does it mean I don't get pissed or frustrated after a loss? Heck no. But, I'll never tweet at a player or flat out demean people if they gave it their best. I make some sarcastic comments in game threads, etc. but it stays there. I agree with some other posters that have said that if you wouldn't say it to someone's face, it probably is not proper to demean elsewhere.

Stay positive peeps and try not to let the bad moments drag you down and also celebrate the successes! Only one team's season ends happily out of 300+ D1 hoops teams. Keep it all in mind!

They maybe grown men physically, but mentally and emotionally they are still kids. All you have to do is look around the country and see how many mistakes these guys are making. Iowa State's Lard is a perfect example. Kid has made some poor choices which has led to suspensions. Yet, he's still playing for the Clones. Some of these guys simply need to mature. That's where good coaching/mentoring should be coming in to play.

It's not as simple as "these are grown men, get over it". There are a lot of other factors outside of the court that affect these student/athletes.

Uh, when were those exactly? I remember 5 or 6 teams in the last 50 years that were truly special, but mostly I remember a lot of teams that weren't all that different from this one. Some exciting moments and some depressing ones.

Would they be tried as an adult or a juvenile?

To answer your first question, people say that other people suck because the other person's opinion sucks. That should have been self evident. And, those who are calling out other fans in this discussion are doing so because those other fans are calling out a player. Last, you should follow your own advise. If you don't like what is being said, just move on, damn.
I guess thats what trying to be civil gets me...

Getting chastised by posters like you and chuck..

Atleast you didnt call me a bad husband or loser employee....

“Honestly when you look back at it, everyone picked us to finish 11th and have four or five wins in the Big Ten. So, to have an undefeated non-conference, 22 wins, it actually baffles me how people can bash us and say all the things they say about us when we had the type of turnaround we did.”

He's talking to a number of people on this board.
So I guess he's saying, "Hey! It could have been a lot worse." Which I guess is true.

Total BS! I was fighting for my country with whole lot of other 19/20 year old soldiers in Viet Nam. We had no choice in some instances and did not cry like a bunch of babies when we were drafted. We trained (4 1/2 whole months) and went to war for our country and some of us would never be able to play sports again when we were released from hospitals. Give me a break these young men are adults!!

Sporting events cater to mentally unbalanced people who do not understand that those contests are for entertainment purposes. It is fans like you who are the embarrassment and nothing that is said by anyone on message broads has any effect on the success of any team. To say so, as you did, is proof that you are ,indeed, out of control.

I am with you Ryan, my thoughts exactly.
I guess when we were at 20-6 people were thinking we were elected status, just keep playing hard, make it happen, go Hawks

First I would like to thank you for your service. But like you said these are young men and though technically adults...grown men they’re not. You can’t compare life and death war to sports but I remember how bad our soldiers were treated and talked about negatively and how wrong that was.
