***Lindsay Wilson Exhibition Thread***

To follow up on Evelyn, going a step further, he was definitely the least effective out of the ten rotation guys. Hopefully just a first game thing.

He may still be trying to figure his role on this team. He would be well served to be a defensive/rebounding/hustle type of guy because Iowa has plenty of scorers.

Ok, I will ask the obvious questions;

* Who was Lindsay?

* where the hell is their college located?

* are they DIII?

* how much did we pay them to come to IC?

I know; I probably should have read the game notes or something.

Anytime we beat a team from Kentucky, it’s gotta be good.

In their 96-58 exhibition victory, the Hawkeyes had
5 guys scoring in double figures:

Wieskamp.......19
C.J. Fredrick....18
Garza...............16
Pat. McCaff......12
Nunge..............11

Joey W and CJ Frederick look like twin in look and their games......Crazy how similar they are........

I was disappointed with his athleticism. He was rarely in a lke defensive stance and couldnt keep their guards in front of him. I'm hoping he gets more focused.

Messenger reports from my IC boys are "Fukin told ya so". About CJ.

Joey T is apparently wild on the bench-apparently yelling "you can't guard him" about CJ after the second three in the first minute or two of the game, and even wilder on the floor-needed to slow down, too excited`. Luka and Jack were good. Jack was the "best rebounder". Jack apparently got the best rebounding "position" and also tipped a few boards toward Iowa guys when he didn't get them. The reports on rebounding were not good.

Bakari was MIA. Jordan does not move like he's pain free. Patrick is much faster than Connor. Connor does have new tough guy stare. Don't know if Ryan played. Cordell looks highly involved on the bench, and did tell Joey to calm down a couple of times (words to that effect).

Ugly free throw shooting. Joey W is probably going to the NBA after this season and is very good.

My scouts reported.....now, let's get some input from people who saw the game live.

I was thinking this in CHA. They are quite similar. Wieskamp is a bit smoother, but Fredrick looked really good. I was very encouraged. I will get skewered for this, but I like CJ's overall game better than Moss. We will see if he will be more consistent.

I was trying to think of a polite way to say that too. I don’t think we’ll miss Moss all that much. Obviously you don’t want to lose a SR, especially one who started the last 65+ games, but if you did, you’d be glad to have a CJ Fredrick step in his place. I’m highly encouraged by what I saw out of him, P McCaffery, and Toussaint.

Did Joey T seem a little hyper? Just curious.

Garza could have scored every possession if he wanted to. He was just that much bigger and physically stronger. He left the game with his typical bloody nose and never returned.

Wieskamp was Wieskamp. IMO quietly and effortlessly scored the game high of 19. He didn’t play much of the second half as FM said he wanted to reward the walk ons. Can’t blame him. Wieskamp will be ready, no question.

Connor hit a three. Good court vision and sees the floor well. He did have a few turnovers. I’m just not sure what his role will be if JBo plays, because Toussaint is obviously better. Edit: And I like Connor.

Toussaint is super quick and disruptive on defense. Great positioning and rebounding for his size. Per Dolph, led in rebs w/ 7.

I think Patrick is going to be a fan favorite before it’s all said and done. He has the typical goofy McCaffery shot. He can get up. Guy is rail thin.

I didn’t notice anything on the bench. We were across the court and up several rows.

On the court, he seemed like he was everywhere. I didn’t notice him overly hyper, but he reminded me a little of Kevin Smith of the early 90’s Hawks.

Sorry phone a friend because I can’t help you. The positives against Lindsey Wilson are no brainers but what I listed are problems going forward if they persist when the competition dramatically improves.

Yeah but sounds like you didn’t even see it? So you are making list of problems if things you haven’t even seen. Rebounding was an issue but if you had watched, you would know that because they couldn’t get inside much and score inside the arc, they were throwing up lots of deep 3’s, which yes lead to long rebounds.

Of course the team isn’t perfect and of course there will be things to work on and of course it’s hard to take much from a game like this but you are getting called out because you are pretty much negative constantly and in this case, you are being negative without actually seeing the game.

Thanks. Hopefully a just little smarter than Kevin Smith. ;)

Connor with a whopping 11 assists. I like it.

Its what PGs do, and that's a good number against any opponent. C just needs to hit FTs, especially at the end of games, and enough 3s to prevent the defense from using his defender like a fee safety or, in Iowa parlance, a "CASH" defender. That is the C Mc 2019 Achilles heel.

He can overwhelm smaller quicker defenders and he see's the floor well. Not super quick, but again, covers a lot more space on defense than most PGs because he's so much bigger, at the point of the zone.

CMc and Joey T could be a good combination this season. Really don't want to see 20/20 split but maybe a 30/10 if Jordan doesn't play. The better PG gets the 30 minutes.

He sees the floor very well.

Smart player....coaches kid. This is a very likeable looking group of kids. Mostly like all Hawk kids (Worley, Recker the rare dislikable Hawks).

Like C McC because he brings toughness and attitude and doesn't take getting hosed by the officials well. Cordell, is a great kid, overcome more physical adversity than most guys under 50 and still might be a star. Everything I've heard about Joey T and CJF is appealing, games and personalities. P McC-and we'll milk the whole cancer survivor story in the press (hard cold reality of modern media memes) and do with what I think will be a really good player. If he's got any Connor in him, P will also play with a chip on his shoulder.

The big boys haven't shown the toughness you love. Need an Eddie Horton broken neck or an Acie Earl shot to the face but they have potential. Plus, I don't think there will be a lot of guys bully Cordell.

And Joey W is going to be a 1st team All Big Ten player from the state of Iowa.

Interested to see how Jack plays. He's got a lot of the Uthoff lack of personality but if he too becomes 1st team All Big Ten who really cares.

Friday cannot arrive soon enough!

I know it's just an exhibition game so take this with a grain of salt but I see a lot of potential for Joe T. I see him taking over as the penetrating guard that can create space for our plethora of shooters, as well as making big plays off the dribble when our offense stagnates. This is something that has been largely absent from the team since Gesell left and a pretty big weakness. He needs to work on finishing at the basket more consistently but I like his skill set.
