Lineups Settled: ISU v. Iowa: Who Wins?

I hope he comes out fired up. Most matches he seems so business as usual type of approach. He needs to get a couple of takedowns before the third, it will be nerve racking if he and frost are rolling around for the win at the end.
Someone needs to kick him in the nuts pre match, he’s so ho hum out there, I wanna see the fuse lit and watch him take off.

Speaking of slapping, I notice a couple of the guys giving Tom low fives after winning while running off the mat the last two duals and Tom proceeding to shake his hand afterward as they slapped Tom's hand pretty hard. I think most are plenty amped up after the matches anyway!

Increase the pace of attacks, crisp finishes, and don't leave your legs open. Easy to say. But for Ayala it's the difference between finals and R12.
This. Also, with a couple of our guys, they always waited for Bellarmine boys to attack so they could counter. To your point Tarp, I too would like to see us initiate the action and increase the pace. But at the same time I get that everyone can’t have a non-stop motor like ADS and Caliendo but wouldn’t it be awesome if the did.

I know it was Bellarmine guy but Teemer looks like he is going to wreck a lot of guys this year. He is going to be fired up for the full to capacity rowdy crowd Saturday night.
Funny…. Jacori called his shot before the dual started. “I’m gonna stick dude quick and bounce! It’s all love though”.

Young man is definitely rejuvenated in his love for the sport and is starting to really find his groove in the room and with the guys. If Terry keeps bringing out this “be the hunter” mentality in him we’re all going to be extremely happy he finished his career as a Hawkeye.

So with injuries and what/not factored what matchups will we see this Saturday? I’ll go first:

125 Terukina hasn’t wrestled yet and I’m not sure Dresser wants CHA to be his first match of the season. Adrian Meza is a stud freshman out of AZ that will be a tough test for Peterson. 3-0 IA

133 Frost dominated Teske last year and Drake hasn’t looked great up at 133 yet. I think he will, but I see a late scramble that costs him the match. 3-3 tie

141 Block will be favored over Redding and while I think he’s more than capable of putting up bonus points here, I’ll give Block a dec. 6-3 IA

149 Parco vs Echemendia could be the match of the meet. This one could end up in SV. Parco will have the cardio advantage and pull out the win. 9-3 IA

157 I’m not sure if it’s Chittum or Johnson or Naak. Johnson medically forfeiting last weekend doesn’t bode well. If it’s Naak, Dresser knows he’s giving up 6, so I’m betting on Chittum getting the nod and getting run over a bit. Teemer with the major 13-3 IA

165 ISU’s Enron couldn’t handle Garvin’s pace and Cali broke Garvin with his, I’m thinking Cali motors his way to a tech fall 18-3 IA

174 Brands vs Riggins could be an absolute snooze fest. I imagine these two have rolled around a bit and have some familiarity. I’m not convinced Riggins has the horsepower to score an offensive point against Brands’ elite defense. Brands with a dec. 21-3 IA

184 Bockman is a big, strong dude and will be a test for Gabe. I think Gabe’s pulls it out vs. a top 20 opponent. 24-3 IA

197 Carroll has looked great so far and I think he’ll be multiple time AA by the time he’s done, but Buchanan is simply on another level right now. Buchanan m dec 28-3 IA

Hwt is tricky. The Cuban has missed some time with a knee injury, so not sure if he’s ready to come back or not. Freshman Herrera is a stud. He was undefeated in HS and is a big, full sized heavy. He’s made the most of his time filling in for Bastida, scoring points in bunches, but ultimately I think Yonger ends up going. Big hill to climb for Keuter and I think he drops a dec. 28-6 IA final score

They would have to pull chittums redshirt if they want to use him. I think if Paniro can’t go they’ll just send out Naak.

Johnson struggled over the weekend earning a decision win over a kid from Providence and then a SV win over a Minnesota St kid. He then medically forfeited out of the tournament. I’d be surprised if he’s physically and/or mentally ready for Teemer’s physicality. Teemer is a problem in Black and Gold.

didn't herrera get 5th at that jv tourney this past weekend
3rd. He lost 2-0 to Lance Runyon of UNI in the semis. He also won by tech fall over the same Stanford kid that Keuter tech falled and picked up a tech fall vs. Navy. If the Cuban can’t go, I’ll take Keuter in a dec.

Just a poor take on my comment Muscles. Drake bizz as usual is not ho hum. Drake got offense and he will need all of it cause Frost will be fired up and gunning for him.

Best best is the meet starts at 25 and Ayala gets to go quickly. Frost is cutting hard and, if we start at 41 and he has time to recover - he could be huge.

No doubt Dresser draws for the starting weight

I think it starts at 125. No more draw you flip a coin and the winner picks the weight.

Look guys this could be very interesting. One thing I do know is we are winning 149,157,165,184 and probably 197 other than that I have no idea of what to expect. I could see Dresser throwing Naak out there at 174 because Nelson knows Riggins so well. If we start at 125 it COULD be 0-3 till 149 and then we make a run to hwt or it could be 3-0 as well. Hard to say right now as it’s early. 1 thing is for sure this is ISU’s Super Bowl and they will be as ready as they can be. If I were a betting man I would say 7-3 Iowa. Could go a lot of different ways. I can see a scenario where isu wins more matches but our bonus point wins at 157 & 165 make up for it and we still win. Going to be a fun night either way!! Can’t wait to see it live. I am going to go out on a limb and say that St. John and Telford hug at the end. 🤣

Don’t want to jinx it but correct me if I am wrong Drake is undefeated against Frost..

My wife and I are headed to the Iowa city hospital tomorrow night for the birth of our first kid. I just casually let her know if she takes her time and we are there through Saturday night I could just slip down to Carver for the dual, hmm shockingly didn’t go over really well.
Give her the pep talk on how important it is to be a team player, then a good slap on the behind. That should go over well, like bait left in the cooler out in the sun for 10 days.

Not really relevant. We shouldn't be scared of a guy who's gotten beat twice by Aiden Riggins this season.
Isn't it 3 times now?

Is Johnson hurt or was the plan for him to get a couple of matches before mff? I wouldn't give a second thought to how he looked if the plan was always 2 matches and mff.

He struggled at Grand View, then sustained a very obvious and perhaps serious injury prior to mff. I don't know if it was his issue coming in or not, but it's a real injury. He was hurting pretty good.

Congrats...in advance!!!

Oh, and a pic of wife is now required.😉

I haven't seen anything out of Ayala at 133 that makes him a favorite.
I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think he's physical enough. He struggled to move people at 125. Being up at 133 exasperates his weaknesses with handfighting and scrambling and I don't see enough benefit from his (supposedly) improved tank.

If Dresser wins the flip then I can’t see how he doesn’t start at 41. Block is pulling the most weight for Iowa and Frost at 33 for Iowa State. This is the obvious to me but I’ve never coached before.

I think this match determines whether or not he drops to 25 and switches with Peterson.

Is there a scenario that Drake goes back down? I was skeptical when I heard he wanted 133 and so far this year I’m not sure it’s the right move. Long season to go.

I don't think either coach will say we want to flip. Also just because Block is tall that doesn't mean his cut is huge. Block was 150 this summer
